DrumRoll
Hi guys my laptop broke recently and I am wondering it would be possible to retrieve a amv I was half way through making? I can access the hard drive with a SATA usb cable but am unsure as to what files I should pull.... any help is appreciated as always.
JohnFlower
Use a Linux live CD. I would recommend Ubuntu, as the ISO can be 'trialed' (i.e. a live CD) without installing anything. It should be able to read the drive without any extra fiddling.
DrumRoll
I can access the drive just fine. I just don't quite know what files to look for?
JohnFlower
I hope you saved the project. If you did, there will be a .veg file somewhere. Use the search function in Nautilus (Ubuntu's file browser) to look for it. If you didn't save, then you will likely loose at least some progress you have made. Sony Vegas is a pain, and doesn't quickly backup after every successful operation. You can find the autosaves in %AppData%\Local\Sony\Vegas Pro\12.0 (like this: C:\Users\flower\AppData\Local\Sony\Vegas Pro\12.0). Again, they are the .veg files. As long as you have the .veg files, you can easily set your project back up without too much trouble.
DrumRoll
I did save, I'll look for the .veg file tonight. Thanks mate. EDIT: I want to try using a boot cd/live cd, just so that I know how to use one. I have downloaded Hiren Boot Cd, is this ok? Or is Ubuntu better? I just went for Hiren based on its popularity ratings. Edited August 11, 2013 by DrumRoll
JohnFlower
I've only ever used Ubuntu live CD's, cant speak for anything else.
