DrumRoll
hello allI have recently started watching steins;gate in eng dub. However, as many of you know this anime features a lot of mobile phone texting, which relies on eng subs . The trouble is the videos I downloaded are awesome in quality but lack the 'sign' subs.So I thought I'd download DAMANS encode of SG as it had sign subs and was also in 1080p. However, the encode quality was shit and I could still see the outlines of frames a few seconds previous-I'm sure a tech boff could better clarify it for me.Anyway, in a stroke of utter genious I decided to extract the subs (which appeared in GUIextract as vobsubs) and put them in a folder with my video file. When I extracted them I ended up with two files; one around 5kb which was a .idx file and another around 23kb which was a .sub file. I have tried placing each file in a folder with the desired video but to no avail. I have also tried converting them with subtitleworkshop but it won't open the files due to them being bad or unsupported.soooooo. what am I doing wrong?P.s I made sure the subs and the video file had the same name. JohnFlower
you will probably need a fansubbers subs for this. most people who have released this series so far aren't what i would call proper encoders. as you said, they've used vobsubs, so that tells me that they're either lazy or stupid. i've also been told to stay away from DAMAN's encodes.the subs i used have the signs for the mobile text. you might need to retime them to sync properly with the R1 BD, but other than that, they should be good to go. i've uploaded them in a rar here.

JohnFlower
you will probably end up editing the subs yourself i'm afraid. most encoders i know wouldn't bother encoding an incomplete series like steins;gate. come december 20th (?) you might have a few more people doing the series, but if you cant wait, then editing the subs yourself is the only option.
