zx0
I have been looking at a few laptops for my nephew, he has about £400 to spend and likes to play games.Tough to find a decent gaming laptop for such little money, but these are the best I have found. I would be interested on your opinions of them. Also if you know of a good gaming laptop coming in under £500 let me know please! The contenders:HP Pavilion g6-1331ea 15.6" Laptop - £400/>http://www.pcworld.co.uk/gbuk/hp-pavilion-g6-1331ea-15-6-laptop-silver-11884802-pdt.htmlAcer Aspire 5755G (i3) - £400/>http://www.saveonlaptops.co.uk/Acer_Aspire_5755G_1201802.htmlAcer Aspire 5755G (i5) - £430/>http://www.saveonlaptops.co.uk/Acer_Aspire_5755G_1201803.htmlAcer Aspire 5560G - £450/>http://www.saveonlaptops.co.uk/Acer_Aspire_5560G_1258901.html
freemail
Best choice would be HD 7670M (from Acer Aspire 5560G - £450) with i3 (Acer Aspire 5755G - £400) the i3 is good but the GT 630... not sure.Problem with the A6 and the HD 7670M... the HD 7670M can work alone or together with the iGPU of the A6. But this can be difficult to manage and the CPU performance of the A6 is below the i3...I'd probably pick the Acer Aspire 5755G (i3).EDIT : Something with a A10-4600M would deliver the GPU-Performance of a GT 630 and the CPU-Performance of the i3 @ only 1x 35W TDP!That's what I'm looking for. A solid 14'' model with no glare and no extra GPU. Just the iGPU of the A10-4600M (HD7660G)... Edited July 24, 2012 by freemail
zx0
I think the A10-4600M with the integrated 7660G is not going to be as good as the Acer Aspire 5755G (i5) or the Acer Aspire 5560G. I will have to check out the prices though, hopefully it is much cheaper than getting a dedicated graphics card.
Dae314
I don't have time to look at the specs on all those laptops right now, but what games does he play? Is he trying to play BF3 on 1920x1080 with max settings? Or is it something more along the lines of WoW at 1366x768? To give you a sort of bench mark, my laptop has a GTX 460M dedicated card in it, and I can run BF3 at mostly minimal settings at 1920x1080 with about 30fps.Check your cards against mine and it should give you a good idea of what the cards are capable of. I'll edit this later (or make a new post) when I get around to looking at the laptops. Edited July 25, 2012 by Dae314
zx0
I know he plays a lot of minecraft, starcraft 2 and some FPS. I will ask him which ones.
dark4yoyo
GT630 is pretty much the same as a HD7670, so the http://www.saveonlap...5G_1201802.html would probably be the best, even though it still is a low end graphic card and it probably won't play BF3 very well. Also, GT630m and HD7670m are both rebadged cards from respectively gtx500m series and HD6000m series, so you might want to go for a new gen graphic card like the GT640 or a HD7730m. zx0
Interesting, you both feel the i3 is going to be good enough, no reason to go for the i5. Am I right?

Am I right?Well yeah, your graphic card is pretty low end so I really doubt it'll ever be limited by an i3, which is already pretty fast.

Dae314
Sorry I'm so late getting back on this. I think the i3 would be OK. You might start to feel dissatisfied with your system's speed within the next couple years though since the i3 is a low end consumer CPU. If you're willing to put in the extra quid to get an i5, go for it, but otherwise I think i3 is OK. I would hesitate to go for the AMD system unless the price dropped below that of the i3 system.
