Hijabs

So, I've had a very recent fascination with Hijabs. I think they are really beautiful. I kinda want one!! But, before I venture into another culture's traditional wear, I would like to learn more about it.

So, if anyone is from an area that Hijabs are worn, or of Middle-Eastern descent, and care to explain some traditions and dos-and-donts of Hijabs, feel free to tell me all about them!

It varies from country to country and who you ask.

I only had one teacher, who was from Sudan, who always wore one, but she generally wore it fairly loose so it'd always slip back and expose her hairline. She'd just fix it without much comment. Other countries would likely find this kind of offensive (I'm looking at you, Saudi Arabia). Obviously there's a lot of styles out there that may not fly well with more conservative types--the sheer, bead-accented ones come to mind--but you shouldn't be stuck for choices if you go to any store that sells them. I went to one in Virginia and they had racks and racks of them. Basically every colour you could ever imagine, they had a scarf in that colour and style.

I'm not familiar with how they do outside of the Arab world, but I know they're called something different in Iran and Afghanistan (at least I'm pretty sure, haha).
