Shinigami King
Only two Death Notes were brought to the human world throughout the course of the series, and before the Near confrontation, the one Ryuk tricked me into giving him possession of, was given back to Sidoh, so only one was left in the human world now, and at the time of the Near confrontation, it was in Near's possession, because he took it from Mikame, yet Light's group were still able to bring one to the confrontation. So my question is, where did that Death Note come from? Also, how was Light able to retain his memories if he gave the Death Note he put in his pants, after relinquishing ownership of Death Note he had, in order to trick his dying dad into believing that he wasn't Kira, back to Sidoh? GinTheDark
I had to think about this for a while, but then I remembered! There were more than two Death Notes in the human world. Technically, there were four. The one Ryuk kept, the one Light picked up, the one Rem gave Misa, AND the one Rem kept. After Rem died, Light took her Death Note from the ashes and hid it from the task force. And THAT is the Death Note that the task force has during the Near confrontation! As far as how Light kept his memories, that's explained by the third Death Note. I'm pretty sure Light was still technically in ownership of Rem's old Death Note, so he kept his memories. Either that or he was still technically the owner of Mikami's book, but man, the ownership rules of the Death Notes are really complicated. It's possible that at the end of the series Light was technically the owner of both Death Notes, but it's really hard to keep track of when the book is simply changing hands versus actually changing owners. Maybe a reread would clear that up!
Shinigami King
I cannot believe I did not see that, it was probably because Rem's Death Note looked exactly like Misa's, instead of stylized like Ryuk's, but that does clear it up.
