Handheld versions any good?

Let's see, I've played Chain of Memories for both the PS2 and the GBA, (this game focuses on cards and setting up decks consisting of cards using the keyblade and spells along with friendly assists) if you can find the PS2 version get it. 358/2 days was pretty good but the story sorta got me confused at some points but as far as using the graphical capabilities of the DS it was probably one of the most impressive on the platform (this one plays very much like the console games with the exception on how you equip potions and abilities, it's easy to use and get used to once you understand it). I have not played Birth By Sleep yet but I hear it's the best of the portable titles and apparently has qualities that actually make it better than the console titles. It's sad that you would need to buy a maximum of three portable devices just to play them tho. (for me I do not possess a PSP but I'm going to borrow one pretty soon)

I personally really enjoyed playing the handheld versions, and the 3DS version that is currently being developed seems to be just as good as the console versions. To get a feel for them you could play them on emulators. I highly recommend playing birth by sleep first be it on an emulator or an actual psp.
