Super-Buu-5
So my bro wants to build a PC cause all he has is a crappy laptop, so I was wondering what everyone thinks of this build. I'm completely open to suggestions and stuffIntel Core i7-2600K Sandy Bridge 1155hereGTX 560 TIthis or thisG.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 16GB (4 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600hereOCZ ZT Series 750W Modular power supplyhereASUS MAXIMUS IV EXTREME (REV 3.0) LGA 1155 Intel P67 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 Extended ATX Intel Motherboardhere2 Corsair Force Series 3 60GB SSD'shereRosewill THOR V2 Full TowerhereCould someone recommend a cpu heatsink too?I was thinking instead of getting a 120GB SSD I might as well get 2 60GB's for the speed. Can anyone recommend some good SSD's that they use? I'll just get a $20 dvd drive and I was thinking that the mobo I chose might be overkill, and maybe the power supply too. I'm not sure I'll go with that case either. As for storage I was thinking of using an old laptop hard drive since he won't be using that much space and cause of the price of hard drives right now unless I can find a really good deal somewhere. Also I was wondering which of the 2 graphics cards to get. They're name's the same except the one that has "TOP" in it. I went with asus cause of the 2 fans but if anyone thinks another brand would be better I'm open to that too
wb4etgf5erbt
For the SSDs Ive got 3 OCZ Vertex 2 drives, and when I first got them I had 2 die back to back, but now theyve been going almost a year and have been great, Although I cant say much about how they compare to other drives. Apaz theres also a Vertex 3 out if you can afford it.Also for the video cards i would personally go for this one:if you want that card, but I reckon you could get 2 GTX460s in SLI for ~$300 which should out preform one 560 TiIf your just choosing between the two ASUS cards go for the TOP one - its already overclocked a bit, out of the box
Dae314
All of the parts I would recommend are in my guide. You don't have to read the whole thing, just find the section you want (Data Storage is Section 7) then go to the bottom of the section and there's a bunch of my recommendations there.Specifically, I would recommend this stuff for that build:1) You don't want to put SSD's in RAID because that will disable TRIM. See my guide for more information about TRIM, but in short TRIM will increase the life span of your drives. I would recommend a single SSD, Crucial M4 128GB, OCZ Vertex 3 MAX IOPS 120GB, orKingston HyperX 120GB are good choices.2) Why are you getting the i7-2600K? Is your brother going to overclock? If not then you can just get the 2600, or even go to the i5-2500 (although you might want the extra performance for whatever reason).3) What resolution is the monitor going to be? If you have a 30" screen running at 2560x1600 then the 560 Ti isn't going to be enough. 1920x1080 is about the max that the 560 Ti can do for gaming on max settings for most high-end games.4) What on earth are you going to do with 16GB of memory? Just get 8 o.O'''5) The power supply can be weaker (if you need to save money), but I wouldn't go under 650W since you have a 560 Ti6) As far as heat sinks you could probably just get a good air cooler. See my guide for recommendations on those.7) Why are you buying such an expensive motherboard ._. You can do just fine with something cheaper see guide for recommendations on that (unless you are overclocking in which case that motherboard's good).Good luck
Super-Buu-5
Thanks for all the input guys, I'm gonna read your guide and put a lot more thought into this. As for the monitor it'll be 1080p. We might get that on boxing day though from newegg and it'll be either 23.6" or 24" and hopefully hard drives'll be on sale too. I was also thinking of overclocking the PC too. Man that sucks that trim doesn't work with raid I was hoping for blazing speeds lol, but if it decreases the lifespan of the drive I'd rather go with one
Dae314
In the future, it seems like TRIM support will eventually make its way to RAID arrays (source). That article came out a while ago, but I didn't bring it up because it doesn't seem to be released yet. Even if it had been released, the only controller that's talking about TRIM support in RAID is Intel, and they're not exactly known for the fastest products (Intel is known for the most stable products though). Diablo
You haven't really mentioned, what you gonna use this computer for. I mean is it going to be rendering/encoding, 3d modeling/Designing or Gaming. Please do mention that. For rendering/encoding you need to have powerful processor. For 3D modelling/Designing you need to have more RAM.For Gaming you need to have powerful GPU. Super-Buu-5
It'll be used for mostly gaming
Diablo
Sorry for late reply If it's gonna be for gaming then I suggest you do not go for an i7, instead get an i5. Also you won't ever need 16 GB of memory.Intel Core i5 2500k(overclockable)Biostar TZ68KG-skill F3-10600CL9S-4GBNT (4Gx2)Gigabyte GV-N570OC-13I GTX 570 or MSI GTX560 Ti TFIIYou gonna save lot of cash over processor so you can go for a GTX570 if you wanna go for GTX560 then go for MSI one, it has almost the same performance but its runs cooler and is more energy efficient.
