azdave
when you encode you are most likely gonna use many different programs..but an easy all in 1 software that a lot of people use is handbrake..for beginners i would start with learning that.. DrumRoll
I use Super, it can be a bit akward to install (was for me) but its really simple.I have to encode everything to avi as I stream anime to my 360.
azdave
i dont convert any files to stream..i use ps3 media server for both my xbox 360 and ps3..it streams .mkv .mp4. and .avi and other formats.. it also handles multiple audio and subtitles..you should try it..so you dont have to convert all those files.. renovalentine
When I'm encoding stuff I've been starting to use handbrake which seems to be quite decent. i have also used win avi which i have also had good experiences with however you will have to pay for it as it isn't free. and also a very easy program which i got in a package from .http://www.dvdvideosoft.com/ you can either download the individual programs which you want or download and install in one big package. flyrite
I think Handbrake or Avidemux are the best for beginners.
