seirachan
So I've had this computer since... sometime in the 8th month of 2010. All the pieces were bought from http://www.ncix.com/ pickup not shipped. But I'm having a huge problem now of it randomly freezing and restarting itself only to stop loading stuff on the motherboard(USB controllers, SATA3, the motherboard itself). It doesn't happen everyday but it's starting to happen more often. Loves to do it when I walk away for a minute. Here's the last few things that happened in one day:I just closed Vindictus(online game) then moved the laundry over, came back but my computer was on it's log in screen(the computer log in not Vin) and it was frozen then it restarted itself(i didn't do it) and got stuck on loading USB controllers till i hit the reset buttoni was trying to update AVG and BOOM all power in my computer just cut, my speakers made a noise(I was updating AVG because I was worried I had a virus and I uninstall AVG after the scan)then after i got it updated and restarted it made a SSKKT sound(through the speakers)The next day i walked away for a bit then once i sat down the screen went black, i thought it was the sleep mode thing then I remembered my friend turned that off then it said "loading asus express gate" and was stuck on it till i turned the computer off.Another day weeks ago my computer was making a ton of noise, i shut it down so I could lay down but the hard drive i believe made a really loud noise kind of like a disc scratching somewhat similar to zipping up your sweater. There has been other things before hand but I can't remember that far back. Here's what my parts are: Tower: http://www.ncix.com/products/?sku=54705&vpn=VM30001W2Z&manufacture=ThermaltakeCD drive: http://www.ncix.com/products/?sku=56098&vpn=SH-B123L%2FRSBP&manufacture=SamsungHard Drive: Unknown I don't have the box for it my friend doesPower Supply: http://www.ncix.com/products/?sku=38649&vpn=CMPSU-750HX&manufacture=CorsairProcessor: Unknown but it's a Quad Core AMD PhenomVideo Card: http://www.ncix.com/products/?sku=44932&vpn=HD577AZNFC&manufacture=XFX&promoid=1285Ram: also UnknownMotherboard: I'm really not sure but this one seems close http://www.ncix.com/products/?sku=53570&vpn=M4A88TD-M%2FUSB3&manufacture=ASUSIf i can figure out anything by opening the case WITHOUT having to touch it I'll do so if asked. † TheChaosLegion
Well, it kinda sounds like you are experiencing some of the early warning signs of motherboard failure. I've seen things like that happen leading up to one biting the dust and it usually tends to start off slow but picks up as it gets closer to death. It COULD also be your power source going bad as they can tend to cause all kinds of weird problems across all the hardware when they act up. Problems with a faulty power source can also get worse with time as well and are the most dangerous. I've seen a bad power source kill an entire computer before several times and it's no laughing matter. You should get someone who knows what they are doing to look at it right away if you can since the problem prolly isn't going to do anything but get worse. It could end up being something small, but its better not to take chances.

Kuroi Hayate
I have seen RAM with incorrectly set timings/voltage cause this a few times before, as well as faulty memory, insufficient and/or faulty power supplies, faulty motherboards. This is one of those things that is hard to tell without swapping out parts one at a time and testing it.
s0teric
Go to a microcenter and they can help you run some diagnostics on it. They'll also switch out some parts for you for free. I've only done this to test RAM so idk how much they'll do for free but it's worth a shot. If you're willing to fork over the cash they'll run a full diagnostic and identify the problem guaranteed. I say this because it could be several different things causing this. The first two that popped up in my mind were power supply and whole motherboard but they might be able to tell you if you go to a microcenter. Idk where you live though or if there is one close to you but if there is, it's a good option.

My friend knows the most about computers then anyone. He could make a job out of it but he has very bad people skills when hes working on a computer. I gotta go to the other side of the room and not move an inch. He would also get pissed off at how stupid people are with computers. We are just waiting for a sign on what it is right now. Hopefully the whole computer wont go under before then. Need to get a USB flash drive to store everything on as soon as I can. but I'm running low on money unless I take from the savings.
