laptop broken-worth repairing?

Hi guys

My laptop broke yesterday and I believe that the fan and power node (node? correct me if I have just made that word up, I'm pretty sure that's what one guy suggested it may be) need replacing. The main cause of the fault is overheating-it cooked itself whilst on sleep ans Its warranty ran out last month:(

So the big question I want to ask you guys Is whether you think it to be worth repairing? I've removed the hard drive and think the data on it should be fine but repairs look to be an initial £50 for analysis then the cost of repair. I was wondering if any of you have had to get a laptop repaired in the past and how much it cost/time taken?

Or if I should just put the money towards building a basic desktop and sell whatever components of the laptop that I can on ebay...

I know that much of what I ask is quite ambiguous but any insight and advice is gratefully received.

oh, and here is the basic info on my laptop

HP pavilion G6 1336sa-it cost me about £400 new.

No the fan broke and I was using a usb powered cooling stand as an ad hoc fix until the new fan arrived (which I was going to fix myself until I managed to shear the head off one stubborn screw). Anyway, I went to bed the other night and closed my laptop. But instead of turning off it just slept (my mistake really) BUT the usb powered cooler shut off and it would seem that the processor still ran whilst asleep (probably trying to run pointlessbackgroundtask.exe)

next day I try to turn it on but it is completely unresponsive. I have also tried a hard reset but to no avail.

Is it still turning on and booting? If not, then its probably fried from overheating and would probably need a replacement motherboard(or processor or both), and that isnt worth it, you would be better off getting a new computer. Cheapest solution i would say is buy an external enclosure for the drive from the laptop if you have another computer already. Otherwise save up your money for building/buying a new computer. Sorry =/
