Real Time Strategy:

Starcraft 2 (because it exceeds the first game, but the first game was awesome itself)

Sins of a Solar Empire

Role-playing

Mass Effect series (despite the extremely crappy ending of the 3rd game, it deserves a lot of credit)

Dragon Age (despite the mediocre second game that was rightfully called a cave simulator on a youtube review, I still have high hopes for the series and the first game was excellent)

Neverwinter Nights (the original, not the sequel because it made world-building harder even though it was better in many ways. It could have made everything better by concentrating on ease of use like the original and expanded on the server possibilities).

First person shooter

Half-Life and Half-Life 2 I think are still the best in the genre overall.

Portal / Portal 2 are both excellent and unique, building on each other very well and adding a great co-op setup.

MMORPG

World of Warcraft - I don't think anything as has exceeded WoW yet, even if this is kind of annoying to me. I need to play Guild Wars 2 as I've heard a lot of good about it, but the twitch factor kills a lot of the player base as female players can't always excel there and I like playing with real women. I'd love to see a new rendition of Neverwinter Nights because I loved the create your own server aspect to that game and spent a lot of time with it.

Yes! Sins is awesome!  I definitely agree there.  Well, when I step back and look I think the list is pretty close to what I would say.  Although I've yet to try Dragon Age...do you think its worth trying at this point?

Personally I really don't like Dragon Age.

Yes the 2nd game is worse than the first and yes the first is good in a way, but:

- I don't like a game with so many huge bugs. It's unprofessional and reflects poorly on the programmers/company. And no, the infinite money glitch in 1 does not make up for it.

- What I HATE about the games is that the main game is super cheap (about $19, including about $17.50 worth of DLC), but then you need to cough up about $65 extra for the rest of the DLC. (yes, I know there is a UE for 1, yes I know I dont have to have the DLC, but it's the principle that makes me angry)
