Chapter 22: Siege

Lambert was hurting. Badly. But he refused to stop. His mind was set and he was determined to get back his PA. For PA users, their armour was as important to them as children were to their parents. His was even more important to him.

Razor came up to him.

" We need to talk." he said.

" About?" answered Lambert. Razor sighed.

" Your injured and Blitz is incapable of fighting. So please let me and Silas take over."

Lambert raised an eyebrow.

" Fine. Make sure your faces and PAs are covered. We don't want to be recognised and we dont want our PAX Tournament entry jeopardised."

Razor hesitated.

" Should we really be doing this then? he asked. In reply, Lambert shot him a cold glare.

Suddenly, a car pulled up just in front of them. Silas was in it, with Opem in the passenger seat, and he gestured for them to get in. Razor had to help Lambert a bit, but they managed to get in.

" Our PAs are in the back, I've got a spare one for you Lambert." said Silas. Lambert nodded his approval. The car started moving. Silence filled it. No words were needed now. They were all mentally preparing for what could be their deaths.

Firo was panicking. His thoughts were in a mess and he was still stunned at the prospect that he may have to fight an all-out war. He sat in the dining room of the Armour Squad HQ, awaiting his team. The doors burst open, Random was the first in.

" We were unable to locate Wake but we have managed to reinforce our defences." he said, quickly. Firo nodded. He took a deep breath. He was their leader after all.

" Ok Random, take 3 of our best long shots and go to the roof of the gym by the entrance. You guys will be snipers. Do not fire until I give the word," he ordered.

" Yes sir!" replied Random.

Suddenly, Rezin burst into the room.

" Firo! They're nearly here. We've got 5 minutes tops!"

Firo swore, he had no time left and began barking out more instructions.

Wake grinned as he spotted the police taskforce. He was hidden in a large tree in the forest next to the HQ. He had originally planned to go after Vonnie, but couldn't resist watching the impending battle. He was looking forward to the carnage, immensely so. He heard a sound, somewhere below him and looked down. To his surprise, a 4x4 car was driving towards the HQ. Out of curiosity, he followed the car's progress, watching it stop a fair distance short of the HQ. To his immense delight, and utter surprise, he saw Opem, Lambert, and his two newbies get out. What are they doing here? As they began putting on their PAs, Wake's confusion turned to pure glee.

" This is turning out better than I thought!" he laughed to himself.

Suddenly, there was a huge bang and a flash of light. Wake saw the first missiles hit the taskforce. They responded by uncovering a massive cannon and firing it at the HQ. The sound of it's impact, sent thrills of pleasure through Wake's body, for the weapon was unbelievably destructive. As the police streamed into the damaged HQ, Wake cackled. The siege had begun.

sorry for the ridicuolously long delay folks, no excuses other than my indescisiveness in how to write this chapter. There is a few surprises ahead, so hopefully that'll make up for my insane tardyness...

Chapter 23: Turn of Events

"What the hell was that Lambert?" asked Razor, who had been shaken to the bone by the massive shockwave generated by the police's cannon. Rune was in a similar state of disorientation, but his thicker armor had spared him from the worst of it.

"That, urgh, was something big, by the sounds of things," said Lambert while the vibrations racked his injured body,"Give me a minute guys."

Lambert was trying to adjust his PA to his prefered settings, changing subtle little things here and there on his HUD. But he was surprised to find that this PA was very similar to the Legate armor. It's profile was very similar, with the Roman segmentata-esque chest plates coupled with the shoulders. It even had a centurion helmet except without the plume. In it's place was four antenna, most likely for coms and radar, arranged from side to side, unlike the Legate's front to back style. He wondered why Irish had created this armor, it was obviously very advanced and customised to fit him, yet he didn't know why.

Meanwhile, Razor had checked his PA's sub-routines and overall system health, as did Rune. Irish had given them a little quick tune up, and had whipped up a little care package for the both of them, considering this wasn't going to be a "PAXT legal" fight. He had outfitted Razor with a small rifle and a hardshield, despite his complaints about it putting him off balance. Rune had been given the tri-barreled gun he had used before, but it was armed with explosive rounds, something completely illegal in PAXT. He had also been given a sawn-off, just in case.

Opem was amused at the situation he was in. Vonnie had wanted him as far away from fighting as humanly possible, yet here he was, on the edge of a fight that is likely to end badly. He knew how to fight, he knew what he was doing. The police presence was kind of awkward, him being a hitman in all. He kept his head down and stuck close to Lambert, who obviously garnered much respect, even with the police.

"Well lads, you ready?" asked Lambert, loading a magazine into his rifle, and nodded his head towards the Armor Squad's HQ. They responded in kind; nodding their heads at Lambert, knowing this was going to get interesting, judging by the audible gunshots in the background and the occasional unmistakable round from the police's cannon. They turned and made their way towards the breach.

Vonnie was finally coming too, despite the extreme protests coming from her skull and her body. She felt like she had been hit by a bus, then she realised that the reality was worse. She had collided with that monster of a guard and the elevator had been there to break her flight. It hadn't been kind and was definatly far from soft. Her HUD showed her that the servos in her right arm were malfunctioning, and the entire right side of her chest plate had been dented inwards, making it difficult to breathe. The servos would be an easy repair, her maintenance unit being able to make the neccesary fixes, but the dents would require some pretty heavy duty buffing. She managed to untangle herself from the elevator door, causing some terrible aches in her shoulders and back. After a quick dust off, she checked her HUD for her weapons, finding the pistol she used to shoot the guard had fallen down the elevator shaft. She engaged the recovery system.

She moved into the room where the fight had begun and sat down on the burnt sofa. She chose the repair unit's function; Quick Fix, and began to manually remove the miishappened chest plate allowing her self a brief moment of respite from the pressure before beginning the arduous task ahead.

She began to use her left arm to punch out the dents; a temporary fix, while the small, spider-like maintenance unit worked on her right arm's joints. She managed to buff out the larger dents, returning them to a semblance of their original shape and began to move onto the smaller, harder to fix dents. After about 10 minutes she had replaced her chest plate while the maintenance bot replaced the final armor piece on top of her servos, after which it returned to it's holder. She stood up and flexed, checking the movement for restrictions, of which she had a few minor mobility issues. Too much turning to the right would hurt, pushing into her ribs through the inner suit with quite a bit of discomfort. Her arm moved without issue and she made mental note to oil her maintenance unit as a reward. She turned to see what her surroundings were like and realised she couldn't turn her head past a certain angle.

She checked her HUD quickly, just in case someone had survived like her, but found nothing. She knew she'd have too be quick, she didn't know how long she'd been here and needed to get out of there before reinforcements came. She began the manual removal of her helmet, closing her eyes as she always did, and pulled it off her head with a quick tug. That's when it got interesting.

Vonnie opened her eyes and almost fell over. She could still see her HUD. She opened and closed her eyes a few times and shook her head, yet the display still remained. It seemed to be superimposed on the surroundings, still seeming solid, as if she was still wearing her helmet. She groped at her face, making sure the faceplate hadn't got stuck, a futile notion as it was still attached to her helmet. She looked at her helmet, and the HUD changed, still showing weapon information, the vitals of the dead guards and people in the room and the small motion sensor in the bottom left hand corner of her vision. It moved with her eye movement, darting across the room as she glanced around in a panic.

She fell back onto the sofa; disorientated and a little scared. After a few moments of groping around she could feel the small scar on the back of her head, where her CIM (cybernetic interface module) was, feeling the blood trickling down her skull and through her fingers. She decided to try something, thinking about the vitals information display she could call up on her HUD while in her suit. It came up in her vision and almost made Vonnie jump out of her skin. The display said she had recieved a major, yet localised electrocution to her cranium, most of which was absorbed by the CIM, which was apparently malfunctioning. It was surreal and she began to try and reassure herself.

"I'm just dreaming. I am NOT seeing those lights. Its all okay" she began.

"No, no it isn't!" said a voice behind her, oddly familiar. She was hit in the back of the head causing her to fall around, catching a glimpse of her assailant before falling from consiousness for a second time. It was Styx...

Apologies for the delay! I've been very busy but here it is!

Chapter 24: Beginning of the End

Random aimed his sniper. He was camped in the Northern Tower with the rest of his sniper team. They were only about 150 yards away from the main battle but it was far enough for them to accurately shoot down enemies. He fired three shots in quick succession and saw three Police bodies drop to the floor. However, he didn't pause to celebrate as he knew that he had made only a minor dent in the huge opposition force.

Down in the midst of the battle, Rezin slashed upwards and sliced off the head of a nearby officer.

He ducked sharply, a bullet whizzing past his ear, and stabbed another nearby enemy. He knew that they had to win, for a defeat would mean either death, or lifetime imprisonment. He wounded another man, before lunging forward and decapitating two more with a fierce slash of his blade.

A lot of people near him were dead or injured, and this allowed him a moment to survey the scene.

He estimated that roughly a quarter of the PA Police force was out of action, whilst the Armour Squad had very little injuries. He grinned. Suddenly, a voice rang out over the battlefield.

" We have given you ample opportunity to surrender but you have instead attacked the state forces. This has led to an order being issued by our state department. We are authorised to use extreme force!" shouted the Commander, using a loudspeaker. Rezin laughed, it would have no effect. The PA Armed forces were weak.

A figure appeared in front of him. Rezin gasped.

" You!"

" Hello Rez," smiled Iori. The assasin pointed a laser gun at Rezin's chest, and grinned wider.

" Bye Rez"

He pulled the trigger and a huge hole was torn through Rezin's chest, fatally wounding him. The Armour Squad member's eyes were wide, and his mouth was open in surprise, as he died.

Random gasped as he saw Rezin fall. One of his teamates looked at him.

" Sir, is Rezin dead?" she asked. Random nodded, numbly.

" Y-yes. Yes he is" he mumbled. Snapping out of his trance, he swore.

" Everybody, retreat to the rear exit, now!" he yelled, into his mic. He could see from his vantage point that the his forces were being overwhelmed, and he figured it was best if they just got Firo and ran.

His thoughts were interrupted by a huge explosion. He was thrown forwards and fell off the tower. Quickly, he used his boosters to slow down his descent. As he landed on all fours, he looked back up towards the tower, only to see it on fire and on the verge of collapse. He gasped, looking around, he realised that the whole HQ was crumbling.

" Shit," he breathed. With an awful realisation, he saw that he was alone. He turned on his hyper boosters, and rushed to the back exit, hoping that Firo would be there.

" Wow Lambert, they destroyed the whole place," gasped Razor. Lambert smiled, grimly. He hadn't intended to go this far, but those Police PA were brutal when given full clearance.

" We need to get to the back exit, that's where Firo will be" he said. Silas nodded, and they made their away around the edge of the perimeter, towards the back exit. What they didn't know, is that in the shadows, Wake was tailing them, a manic grin stretched across his features.
