(Rofl, apparently I took so long to type this out I got logged out.)

There are five fora that I still visit from time to time. All five seem to have slowed down considerably since I first joined, but two of them seem almost comatose.

This looks pretty comatose to me.

I usually don't think twice if the last person to post in a lot of threads has been the same person. But wow, I definitely think twice when I see that the person is spamming the hell out of the forum for no apparent reason.

Were it not for FM, I probably never would have met the wonderful people that I have. I also probably never would have met the annoying people that I have either, but I don't talk to them much and it's just a risk you take. <.< Anyway, I guess I'm just a little nostalgic for Ye FM of Olde.

I just miss being able to drop in and see that I've missed a lot and have a lot of threads to read (and probably respond to). The other four fora I visit I don't post much at any more either--there rarely is anything for me to respond to. And what is there for me to respond to generally is spam or just hateful bullshit.

Anyway, I dunno. Part of me doesn't want to see the place die a slow, painful, horrific death. I've left plenty of times, and generally I eventually returned. Most people who left also returned. Drama is hilarious when you look back at it (but not so much at the time). But they always came back, damn it, and no one really thought much of it because it always happened.

Apparently I've been gone for "several weeks" (according to the announcement deal at the top) twice now. Maybe more--anyway, the point is when I came back before, there was stuff to respond to. There was hilarity in the shoutbox. I remember the shimmying/general dancing, toothpaste theme songs, and other silly nonsense--that was earlier in its life. All I remember about it towards the end of its life was fighting with someone.

The clans didn't do much of anything but it was fun to post in. I guess they're kind of like the fan clubs, but they were less stupid. It had a lot of potential. It could've been the basis for a massive forum RP, clan against clan. Something like that.

I didn't RP at all when I first registered, but I liked to read them. The first RP I participated in here, I ended up killing my character because everyone else was going too fast for me and it wasn't that great of an experience, but it made me want to do it more. And I did. You can see that the second (?) RP I ever created here is still in the section. True, I don't mourn it overmuch. It wasn't the most popular place to post, but like Faiz has said, even with the few people who were posting there, it was a damn interesting place.

The private rooms were just asking for drama (and it did come, because I am a drama queen), but otherwise they were amusing. There were, like, five girls that posted in the girls' private room. Or at least posted regularly. It was fun, before and after Elf had to get tougher on us about staying on-topic. The "truth or dare" thread was amusing, even if it did spawn a bunch of spam. (Although the thread on apples seemed to go on for a while, and I think the peeing in the shower thread was a dare as well.) I think it was the dare I got that finally broke the straw (post a thread expressing your love for one of the members--oh, okay, that sounds like a great idea! Though I suppose I could do it now and be serious about it =D ). We also wrote stories about "women's rights". (Ahaha, yeah right. It was porn. I still have the story I wrote for there--it's titled "Women's Rights" and it makes me giggle every time I look at it, even if I don't read it. I remember Sora asking me to make it more explicit or something.)

When I first joined, the PMYC contest was going on. And I posted my little heart out, because I had no choice--all of the other sections were hidden. I thought it was a nice way to show up to a new forum--right smack dab in the middle of a contest that you could participate in. And you had nothing to lose by participating, and nothing to lose by not participating.

I do admit I miss hanging out with some people. I still mourn Sorian (am I the only one who remembers him?). I miss the girls from the girls' room. (I know Elf, Sora, and Kikyou were there. There was another girl, and she caused drama between two guys [forum boyfriend and real boyfriend], but damn, I don't remember her name.) I've talked with Elf on occasion, and I can reach Sora on Myspace easily. I just miss hanging out here.

I'm not wishing that the place go back to the way it was, with the same people and such. I miss the activity. I miss the energy. I miss being pissed off in the debate section, being pissed off in general but still laughing at the silly stuff that went on. I miss having a place to go to and wind down. I remember going here first all the time when I was online. I remember having a few people just add me on MSN for no apparent reason. I remember a few of the times when a bunch of people from FM had those huge conversations on MSN and it was always a little hectic and stupid.

I'm not that social of a person. I probably could find other fora that are more active, that are still in their peak or approaching it. I don't really want to, though. The fora I visit now are enough--they just need to live. I go to PMBD because I find it amusing and the debates are interesting. It's the same reason why I go to S2C--of course, I also go there because it's the sister site of a download site I frequent. I go to MATY because I get information there and can watch fights about stupid, petty shit. I go to AG because, I dunno, I'm just there. =P

I go here because I guess I just keep expecting that something has happened, and people are trickling in and posting in threads. But it doesn't happen.

I kind of wish we could start over. People can grab the threads they'll miss (I'll probably grab my RP) and we just... start over. I'll revise the rules I've written, I'll drop a link in my signature over at S2C, and leave a bulletin on Myspace and tell the people from FM to drag their asses back over here if they can (and even if they can't, because damn it, they should come back). And I'll freaking rewrite the section descriptions because they bother me. =P I'd rewrite everyone's posts if I could, but I'm not inclined to do so. XD

I dunno. Really, I'd hate to see this place die. I'm not asking for the old days to come back, because I'm not particularly concerned with that. I just want it to be alive again. I want this to again be the first place I go to when I get online. I don't want to just keep popping in from time to time when I start to wonder about it until it finally gets closed down.

(And damn it, I miss posting huge posts here!)

Oh good, someone else caught onto who the spammer was. =P

I don't remember there being a lot of forum modifications and stuff when I first joined, but it was still fun just to hang out, and when I got into RPing, there was always that to do. Anyway, they're available now, and it's not like it's a bad thing to have--I just think working on the community and making sure people are talking is more important.

It seems like starting over would be the best thing to do (especially since cleaning up the spam just seems like an annoying job at this point--just get the high-pressure hose and blast the whole damn thing away. We can rebuild). Get a fresh start--just have a few sections showing for a while so there aren't a bunch of empty or dead parts of the forum. They can always come back when the pace picks up again. Start brainstorming things again and putting them in action a few at a time (and, I dunno, when things get put into action, move posts from the "brainstorming" thread to a locked thread of "things that have been done" so there's a sense of accomplishment).

And damn it, have more than one person in charge. =P I know people have lives and things seem to be busiest in that time after high school (I have a lot of paperwork ahead of me according to the recruiter >.<), but everyone has free time on occasion--having even just two people in charge who can make changes would ensure that we aren't stuck in some sort of purgatory, where we can only talk and wonder if it'll ever happen. =P With two, there's a greater chance that one of them will drop by and bend to the will of the peasants!

Yarr.

ETA: Luneth, it wouldn't be an issue if the place wasn't as comatose as it is, but it is and the spam is incredibly obvious.

Dude, it's not like I hate you. I don't fault you for being active and apparently having a lot of energy--it's not like you killed FM or anything. It's just when I look at this

ioiuihjkjkl.jpg

it's hard to think of it as anything other than spam. Again, if the place was a little busier, it wouldn't matter since other people would be posting and even if one were to be the last poster of a majority threads, it wouldn't stay that way for long. I would know, I've been there. Sometimes I think people are afraid to post when I'm online. =P When I logged off and came back in a few hours or the next day, I was no longer the last poster of every single thread, if any.

Right now things just seem to be standing still, like it's a ghost town, so when there's something running around and kicking up dust, people are going to notice and probably be irked by it. Besides, I'm trying to kick up a little dust of my own, mostly in the direction of our admin, wherever he may be. =P

Luneth, you're a strange cookie.

Anyway, at this point I don't think RPs are going to have much chance of surviving, but for sure it'd be nice to see them active again, even if it's just six people again. =P When November rolls by and I get all hyped up for NaNoWriMo, I'll probably want do some RPing and keep the creativity rolling, so I would like the place to be resuscitated (either cleaned up or completely restarted) before then.

I miss the old FM too. There were some great thread. There was some interesting drama which kept it going, even while nothing special was going on. It was probably the most exciting forum I ever joined until Muffin came around and cracked it--twice. (It was nice to get into Koby's account and ban the bastard's IP, albeit a fake one. Thanks for posting his hash, Muffin.) Then when it restarted, I sort of went a little out of hand trying to let the administrator know that he can't do the job entirely by himself. There have only been a few interesting things that went on since then.

It would be nice to have an active forum to go to. The last one I tried to join had an administrator with an IQ below that of an umbrella, and I left soon afterwards. I'm not sure what it will take to get FM active again. It managed to get up there once, it should be able to get up there again. My forums always fail on me after a month anyway, so I may as well focus on another.

You know sentient umbrellae? That's amazing.

Koby just needs to drag his ass back over here and give some control to someone else so they can take a chunk of the complaints onto their own shoulders, and when Koby does his disappearing act, hopefully the second won't follow him. >.<

"I'm not sure what it will take to get FM active again."

Maybe kittens could save FM.

Luneth, your last post just now WAS spam. We don't need to know your going to your forum to go post. :| It's also shameless advertising but, please I admit your enthusiasm is good and your trying to revive the place but, when people come and see your name plastered all over the main index, it does the REVERSE of what you want, it helps kill the place if one persons name is on each new topic. Keep yourself a little reserved and don't post in every section all the time, you can wait till some more people post surely. :D

But I think if we get more people who post a good deal, we'll have no problem.

It's just if one person posts in almost every single new topic on the board, it just looks like there is ONLY one person posting, which does not help. :|

So just keep yourself a little reserved and we'll be alright. :D

Lol, you said you weren't going to post in the thread any more and came right back. XD I suppose you pretty much just clinched it for yourself anyway by stating that you were going to wash your hands of it.

People have varying definitions of spam. If you don't think it's spam, great, but that doesn't mean others will agree with you--and if a mod comes by and tells you that it's spam, it's best not to argue. If there are other people you know, invite them over and post with them, so long as you follow the rules and basic forum etiquette.

Also, the more I think on it, the better a clean start looks. =P
