You could check out Abingdon Boys School, they perform the intro to the Darker than Black anime, which is quite good(the intro, i mean, its called Howling). And maybe Gackt as well, try the song called Redemption.

I haven't heard those bands, but I'll recommend T.M. Revolution, I'm fairly sure that's j-rock. They did the first theme for Soul Eater; Resonance. Kosaka Riyu is good to, but like I said, I don't really know. ^^'

J-Rock?

let's see:

1. Flow (World End, Colors, GO!, Sign!, Days!) just try to hear their songs

2. Jam Project - Numerous Songs from the Super Robot Taisen Series (Rocks, Portal, Gong, Cosmic Dance, Crest of Z)

3. Baad and Manish - Quite old J-Rock bands but they have good tracks especially in the slamdunk series

4. Bump of Chicken - Karma, Sailing Day

5. L`Arc n Ciel - they are really popular :D

6. Kung Fu Generation Boys - also popular that most of their tracks are to be heard on Naruto, Bleach and Full Metal Alchemist (Haruka Kanata, After Dark)

7. Deen - Quite an old Band in Japan in the 90's.. they have good songs too. (Kimi Sae Ireba)

8. Little by Little - one of my favorite song in this band was the 3rd opening of naruto (the original season - Kanashimi wo Yasashisa ni)

9. Haruka Shimotuski - well, i really like her songs since that it's composed of j-pop and j-rock try blade of tears and hear it :D

10. Misono - i just heard her songs for a while but one of my favorites was the 'three legged race from tales of symphonia: knight of ratatosk for Wii.. it's good as a j-rock song

i hope that my post helps ^_^

The black Mages are a good one, they remixed some songs from the ff7 soundtrack and it was epic, unfortunately, I don;t know anything about them other than that.
