Something more adult...

Recommended Posts

Hey guys...I was going to write something like "porn" or "sex" in the title..figured I'd get more views that way but then I thought it would just be removed or something :P

Anyway, I'm looking for some new series that are more mature..something that has a good story and is aimed at an older audience. Something with action is preferred but I'm generally an all-round kinda guy so I'll watch most things. Shows like Claymore, Cannan, Deadman Wonderland, Deathnote, FMA Brotherhood, etc...

Cheers guys

I didn't see Black Lagoon on your list and that's about as adult as anime's get in terms of story and character development. It follows 4 pirates in the South China sea operating out of Roanapur Thailand. They shuttle drugs, weapons, and people and spend episodes getting wrapped up in the Russian Mafia's, local drug cartel, and Chinese Triad affairs. The new OVA Roberta's Blood Trail was just released and follows the group from a back story that involves a South American Assassin and the American SF's first special operations group Delta.

Other than what was already said. Try Speed Grapher, RIN ~Daughters of Mnemosyne~, Darker than Black, Phantom ~Requiem for the Phantom~, Ga-Rei-Zero, Blood+, Hellsing Ultimate, [C] - Control.

No mention of Steins;Gate yet, it's my top pick at the moment, try that too.

Also Kara no Kyoukai - the Garden of sinners, only available subbed though.

Definitely Kara no Kyoukai. Excellent set of movies.

Yes, Steins;Gate was very good.

I don't think you will find many anime series with action and a good story. It's normally one or the other. Very few stories can pull this feat off (particularly the 'good story'). Anyway, I opted for a 'good story' with less emphasis on the 'action' part:

Trigun (series). It has action and a story! However, one would need to read the manga to complete said story. The anime does do quite well, conclusion wise, but lacks the completeness the manga offered.

Ergo Proxy (series). This isn't for everyone, but the story is there, and is interesting enough.

The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya (series). Not so much adult as you wanted (and you've probably already seen it >_>), but I found the story to be plenty interesting.

The Place Promised in Our Early Days (movie). Again, not so adult. It does draw in the older viewer though. Very good story!

Ookami Kodomo no Ame to Yuki (movie). Great story. It's one of those kids movies in which adults can enjoy them too. Like Disney-Pixar's 'The Incredibles'.

Break Blade (movies). I believe the manga portrays the characters and their feelings better than the anime, but that's just me. If one wants to continue the story, they would need to read the manga anyway.

The Big O (series). A psychological story that I enjoyed a lot, and it has action. Not everyone would enjoy something like this though.

Casshern Sins (2008-2009 series). Admittedly, the story of this anime didn't hook me instantly, but I was sucked in eventually. Plus it has quite a lot of action.

Of course there is also the normal Cowboy Bebop, Samurai Champloo and Ghost in the Shell. I would definitely recommend watching all of Ghost in the Shell (movies + series + specials) if you haven't already.

Same goes for Cowboy Bebop and Samurai Champloo, actually. They are the generic fallback for 'good anime'.

Funny you should mention Black Lagoon...just downloaded it and the OVA and started watching them...It's an epic series and it's exactly what I've been looking for...

Cheers for that

If you know of anything similar to this, I'd appreciate it

Cheers for the help guys...I'll have a browse over all the stuff you've mentioned and hopefully I'll find something I like..Ghost in the Shell has been mentioned to me several times so I'll definitely look into that

Not sure what you mean by more mature since some of the recommendations here are clearly shounen anime which are generally meant for audiences from 14-18. You should watch for the "seinen" tag on anime databanks like anidb.net or any other databank.

A few recommendations would be:

Ghost in the shell (movies and the 2 series)

Legend of Galactic  Heroes (greatest space opera ever)

Mushishi

Ano Hi Mita Hana no Namae o Bokutachi wa Mada Shiranai (short: ano hana^^)

Baccano!

I couldn't help but notice no one mentioned Elfen Lied, if you haven't watched it yet you need to. I would also throw in Baccano as it has lots of blood action and gore as well as a great story, but it bounces back and forth between 3 time periods which confuses most people the first time they watch it, but it is an awesome series (if you like it, try Durarara which is more linear in story telling and done by the same guy, but its not as adult).

Let me second Gantz, if you want blood, action, nudity, and a really f*d up story, you should watch it, and judging by your lineup I'd say its right up your alley, but then so is Elfen Lied and Baccano. Someone mentioned Basilisk, I'd second that as well, though it is pretty serious and a little depressing, but meets all your requirements of adult content and story.

Now outside of the action emphasis, if you just want lots of nudity with well done comedy, check out Girls Bravo. If you make it past the first episode, your in for a real treat. If you like that, check out B-Gata H-Kei (also known as yamada's first time), a little lacking in the adult content but its all adult humor, its about a girl who desperately wants to lose her virginity and the poor sod she tortures to this end.
