Gamescom 2012 Coverage

Recommended Posts

The thread acts as a central hub for all the information and videos for new and existing IPs announced at Gamescom 2012.

Not all videos are available from YouTube. Sometimes a website will get an exclusive for some reason. If this happens, or I just can't find a copy on YouTube, I'll post the link to the video on the site in question instead.

Below you'll find all the information you could want with each game separated into individual spoiler tags an alphabetized for your convenience.

The Incredible Adventures Of Van Helsing

There have been some new details about this upcoming Action/Adventure RPG coming from Developer Neocore. It tells you about what you get from killing stuff and a bit more about levelling up and stuff. The game is somewhat tentatively scheduled for a Q4 2012 release on PC and Xbox 260. For more information about this particular update, visit the page:

The actual trailer below isn't new, it was the information that was new. As a lot of people won't have heard of the game before though, including myself, I've put the trailer in as well.

Resident Evil 6 really seems to be getting back into the horror side of things. From the looks of things a lot of the game will be in the dark with only a flashlight for any kind of lighting to look around. Makes it really easy to suddenly turn and boom. That and shadows on the wall way before you see them actually made it seem like they were already there then you never really knew when they'd actually pop around the corner. Three different set of characters, all having their own stories intertwined. Leon seems to be mostly survivor-horror gameplay, Chris is more action, and the new guy Jake seems like a combination of the two. I never even knew Wesker had any kids, but then I haven't exactly played all of the games fully either. I like the fact that up to 4 people can play at certain points and it seems like it can be co-op at least for the entire game, while not having to focus on it so much. RE5 pretty much required another player the way it was setup.

Also really like the fact you can be moving and shoot, or shoot while you're knocked down, or even on the ground. Having various methods of transportation and actions seem like a nice touch and it's good to see zombies make a return on the grand scale of things.

RE6 does indeed look to be promising but I got a chance to check out the demo and I gotta say - the only parts that have real potential are the scenes with Leon. The other 2 guys - Chris and whatshisface just make it another generic army shooter.

An extended version of Leon's gameplay shows it indeed going back to the style of my favourite RE game - RE4 so I suppose I'll check it out, if only to play the Leon sections.

And yes, I am a die hard Leon fanboy.

I gotta say I'm really impressed with Capcom this far. Though the new Virgil kind of turned me off in the beginning, as did the new Dante initially, I'm starting to get used to this new style that the developers have created. Actually, the characters still have their charm from the original games so maybe it was a GOOD thing capcom decided to leave this in the hands of a western developer.

Not only that, Remember Me looks fan-fucking-tastic. The only reason they get that much hate is because of their DLC practices and if they can work their way past that, they may actually be remembered for being involved with really kick-ass games.

Added details about World Of Warcraft: Mists Of Pandaria. At the moment the video is only on the IGN official website, it's not up on YouTube yet, or at least not from someone that isn't just a YouTube channel. Or French. The link to the IGN page is in its spoiler tag.

Thankyou very much.

To be honest it's winding down a lot now that it's opened up to the public. Plus considering neither Nintendo or Microsoft attended the event at all - Microsoft have also stated they won't be at TGS either - there wasn't all that much in terms of new announcements aside from Remember Me and the Sony stuff. You could argue Nintendo were kind of there considering Rayman Legends is a Wii U exclusive.

Gamescom works very well for showcasing indie developers but a lot of those games aren't really covered by the media unless they're published by a big company. The same thing happens at TGS and, to a lesser degree, E3.

Anyway, there's been a few changes:

  • Added a multi-player trailer for Medal Of Honor: Warfighter
  • World Of Warcraft: Mists Of Pandaria now has a video rather than an IGN link

There's actually been more stuff at Gamescom than I thought there would be. It's nice that there were some new announcements as well, rather than it just being new trailers - or the same trailers - for stuff that's already been announced.

It's weird that Nintendo and Microsoft didn't attend though.

I'd imagine Nintendo will be saving most of their stuff until TGS which starts on September 20th as that would be closer to the release of the Wii U. Plus, it'll be in their home region.

As I've said before, Microsoft won't be attending that either which seems odd. I would imagine they may have their own event at some point before the end of the year.

Finally, I've added some details about a somewhat mech-y game called Strike Suit Zero. At the moment it's a link like World Of Warcraft: Mists Of Pandaria was as IGN haven't got round to putting their latest video (a pre-alpha development diary) onto YouTube yet.

It's 1:30am where I live so I'm going to get some sleep and I'll see if they've put the video up in the morning.

Take care.

I've added bits and pieces for the following:

  • Fable: The Journey - Developer commentary. IGN link, no YouTube version available.
  • Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn - IGN link. An almost completely redone version, no new videos.
  • Injustice: Gods Among Us - Developer commentary. IGN link, no YouTube version available.
  • LEGO The Lord Of The Rings - Gamescom 2012 Trailer - YouTube video
  • The Incredible Adventures Of Van Helsing - Old trailer, new information. IGN link.

Additionally, there's still no YouTube version of the Strike Suit Zero pre-alpha stuff so that remains an IGN link. Sorry for any inconvenience caused, I know how shit IGN is.

Added videos from Assassin's Creed III: Liberations. Additionally, Fable: The Journey and Injustice: Gods Among us now have YouTube videos rather than IGN links.

To be honest guys, it's probably easier for you to just check out the IGN YouTube channel by this point. There's so much more stuff on there that I probably won't be able to fit it in. That's why I've mostly been limiting myself to actual trailers or commentaries but there are gameplay videos on there as well.

Some of the stuff on there I haven't got round to putting - and probably won't as my weekend seems to get increasingly busier - includes:

  • 007 Legends - Gamescom trailer
  • Assassin's Creed III - Naval Warfare trailer
  • End Of Nations - Gamescom trailer
  • FIFA 13 - Gameplay videos
  • Kings Bounty: Warriors Of The North - Gamescom 2012 trailer
  • God Of War: Ascension - Brutal Combat trailer
  • Marvel Heroes - Gamescom trailer
  • Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance - Gamescom 2012 trailer
  • NHL 2013 - Tutorial trailer
  • Ni No Kuni: Wrath Of The White Witch - Gamescom 2012 trailer
  • Shadow Company: The Mercenary War - Gamescom 2012 trailer
  • Sly Cooper: Thieves In Time - Gamescom 2012 trailer
  • Sonic & All-Stars Racing: Transformed - Gamescom 2012 trailer
  • Soul Sacrifice - Keiji Inafune Interview
  • Star Wars 1313 - gameplay trailer
  • When VIkings Attack - Gamescom 2012 trailer
  • ZombiU - Various gameplay videos

So, yeah. There is still loads of stuff I've not got round to putting in and probably won't get round to putting in. Plus I've just started using my 4th reserved post so I probably won't have room for all those videos anyway. In future I'll reserve more and more posts until I start getting everything in. Next month we have TGS (Tokyo Game Show) and for that I'll try reserving five posts. Until then, I hope you enjoyed and appreciated my coverage of the stuff at Gamescom.

is anyone else sick of co-op campaigns? I don't want a partner in RE6, sheva AI was shit and human players ruin the mood completely with their infiniter ammo rocket launchers.

As someone who doesn't really play multiplayer games (it's pretty much RPG or bust for me aside from the odd sports game) I always welcome a co-op mode just so other people can play if they want. Having said that, forcing a co-op mode is not going to be to the tastes of everyone. I played RE5 but that was with my brother so I don't how much that experience helps me gauge your frustration.

I think that forcing a multiplayer mode into a game that doesn't need it is also pretty common, especially when it comes to FPS games. Crysis 1 didn't have anything, then Crysis 2 comes to consoles and, bang, has to have a multiplayer mode that everyone hated. It'll be interesting to see how the multiplayer mode of Crysis 3 goes down with the public.

I also loved Soul Calibur IV because it had a great balance of single player modes as well as giving you decent online versus modes - even if the matchmaking was a bit pants. So, I bought Soul Calibur V on launch day anticipating something good and there's fuck all singleplayer and a shit load of multiplayer stuff. Not even any little cutscenes or anything after finishing the arcade mode with characters.

Ultimately, after all of that, the thing to remember is that you can't please everyone all of the time... still, I've not met many people that praised the co-op in RE5...

Since I was told I can do this here's the topic for it.
This will be a collaboration/collection/whatever you want to call it of the streams that I do on Twitch. I can only stream PS4 games right now at the moment because I've been using the PS4 Broadcast thing on the PS4 itself to do them. The only problem with doing that, is that occasionally, the screen will go all blue and you won't be able to see anything when the dumb 'Gameplay Recording Paused Due to Blocked Scene' pops up. But I don't have the money, the funds, or the technological wherewithal to know how else to do it.
The only other game systems I have are the 3DS and the Switch and you can't stream 3DS games without hacking the 3DS, as far as I'm aware, so that's a no-go either and the same for the Switch. I wouldn't even know how to stream Switch games either. Most of this probably revolves around 'Capture Cards' which I just do not have the money for, and really don't see a reason to shell out the money for, when I don't see a problem with just using the PS4 Broadcast Gameplay on the PS4 itself. It accomplishes what I want anyway. Which is just to have fun streaming some PS4 games. It's pretty much the only method I have right now to upload to YouTube right now anyway and it's not like I'm trying to become a popular streamer/YouTube/whatever (seriously I'm not. I'm just doing it for fun mostly). I suppose I could post the YouTube versions in this thread as well... but... they are unedited videos so... yeah... maybe not such a good idea. 😅
Anyway I decided to make this thread now because I'm pretty close to being done with/being satisfied with what I did/accomplished in Pokemon Ultra Sun so I'll be able to start streaming again soon because my next game I'm going to play/on my LARGE backlog list is a PS4 game. Specifically this one:

Anyway I'll just post in this thread again and maybe make a status update for when I'm about to stream/what time the stream will likely start and then I'll edit the post when the stream is over. I suppose, if there's enough demand for it, I'll post the really bad unedited YouTube-version of it as well when it goes up on my channel.
For now, I'll just post a link to my Twitch account, which is mainly where the streams will be done obviously. I don't want to break any 'self-advertisement' rules for posting a link to my YouTube channel as well but it'll be easily found if people request the really bad unedited YouTube-version as well. 😅
Anyway enough of this. Here's a link to my Twitch. Oh, and one more thing. I was doing this before Kametsu went clean so I have other streams I've done, however during one of them, I... got harassed. So I had no choice but to implement some 'chat rules' (nothing too restrictive) as well as where you have to 'follow' me on Twitch for 10 minutes before you can start chatting. Sorry. It's only because I don't want to run the risk of being harassed again.
Okay that's it I swear. He's my Twitch channel:
I can't really give an estimation as to when I'll start streaming Cyber Sleuth Hacker's Memory, but I want to change things up a little and stream the beginning of a game for once. I'm not going to turn Cyber Sleuth Hacker's Memory into a full 'Let's Play' or whatever I just want to change things up and stream the beginning of a game for once. Although that does run the risk of the annoying 'blue screen' because I don't know how many scenes will be 'blocked' for Cyber Sleuth Hacker's Memory with the dumb 'Gameplay Recording Paused Due to Blocked Scene' notification so apologies for that beforehand if it happens.
Anyway all I can really say is that I'm only doing the Rainbow Rocket part in Ultra Sun (which I'm at right now) and then I'll be satisfied with the game. So it may be soon. Stay tuned? I guess?
*still hopes that me doing this is still allowed and I don't end up in the Shadow Dimension again* 😰

I think it was for a song from the 90's, and while I don't think I've listened to the song itself, the video involves a woman covered in a white veil as she walks towards the camera while singing, and she's walking through a bright hallway.
That might be a little vague, and that description is probably not very accurate, especially since I remember stumbling on to the video by accident on YouTube, but I recall that the aspect ratio was definitely 4:3, which should tell you how old the video is. And it was definitely on one of those VEVO channels.
Thanks for any help I can get!

Hi everyone. I am new to video encoding, and, I do not know where or what to search for. "Googling" just does not work for me. The topics or search keywords are so rare, I get no results for what I need.
I need an Open Source tool that is extremely advanced in quality, but "mouse only user" friendly - has a GUI. I need such a tool to re-encode a HEVC video to H264, without any loss in quality or video bit-rate.
      about what I need:
      - has a GUI with mouse support (heavens we are in 2017)
      - can encode from BDISO
      - can re-encode a mkv video track only (no audio)
      - can modify the video track during encoding (anti-aliasing, de-banding, de-blocking, de-noise, collor correction effects)
      - basically, what do amazing groups use? Beatrice-Raws, ANK-Raws, LittleBakas, FFF, Coalgirls (Tenshi), BlurayDesuYo, Tsundere, Final8, SallySubs. Those are/were the only sane groups that did excelent quality. (But now some just ran away to XDCC IRC, Baka.bt, AnimeBytes, like cowards, from DMCA.) ^^
      - so how do they do it? Is it a secret?
      - how and what do they use to encode from a BDISO to a ~10MB/s bit-rate video (with anti-aliasing, de-banding, de-noise)?
      - After all that, re-encoding an already encoded HEVC video track to H264 should be a breeze.
      about the video:
      1920x1080 HEVC 10, 10-bit, variabile fps, constant bit-rate 12.6 MB/s
I want to re-encode that, to a more "GTX760/770/780/780Ti/TITAN,GTX970/980/980Ti,GTX690/TITAN Z" friendly video codec... so that I can *watch* my damn video.
      - I am an archivist, so I have zero knowledge about video encoding.
I do have knowledge about video quality. (At least I know what my eyes like.)
      - I only have MKVToolNix for muxing (I OUT mux all dubs and localised subs)
      - I do not believe into the term "placebo quality" (refering to video bit-rate), until someone posts comparison screenshots of a low bitrate video vs high bitrate 1920x1080 video, streched (real time upscale) to screen edges of a PC monitor with (at least) a 2560x1440 or 3840x2160 native display resolution.
      Thank you!
PS. Any other advice, other than about video encoding open source software, is not appreciated. ^^
