  1. This one's a humdinger. Saying both is too wishy washy, and there are a lot of different ways to compare the two. I decided to let personal opinion decide and went with light as he is truly a despicable bastard and no better than the "criminals" he killed based solely on what was printed about them. He was a genius and an excellent tactician, but completely lacking in the area of ethics and morality which made him a much darker character than lelouche. Deep down underneath it all lelouch was a good person, a bit misunderstood, but he meant well and had a conscience. Light is completely amoral, a total sociopath, and a megalomaniac, lelouch only maintained the appearances of these things, he wore several masks and I doubt even he was sure which one was his own face. As far as series go, they both go downhill at some point, I didn't like the changes in direction and style implemented in the second season of code geass, and death note went downhill after L's death, there shouldn't have been a victor between light and L till the end of the series in my opinion, and I hated L's replacements. In the end, its all about which you prefer and how you measure, since its between 2 dark characters I go with the darker.
  2. I started with tenchi muyo, not the best place for a 10 year old, but then I later watched pokemon and zoids
  3. Onizuka from Great Teacher Onizuka, half jackass half badass, my hero. Not just anyone would show up to a public conference to determine weather or not they should be fired in an ape suite and give everyone the finger, I could write a massive list of all the reasons he kicks ass.
  4. L from Death Note.... never did catch his name, lousy bastard....
  5. Full Moon Wo Sagashite is my personal favorite, next to that would be Kurumi from Steel Angel Kurumi (to everyone who thinks magical girl series is only stuff like Card Captor Sakura and Sailor Moon, you should check out DeerS, Sekirei, Revolutionary Girl Utena (makes more sense when stoned), and many other series involving girls with magical transformations targeting adult male audiences, its more diverse then you think mua ha ha)
  6. Superman destroys an entire galaxy with a sneeze, someone posted a comic clip of it very early in this debate. I cant believe this pole is still going. First I have to say that I do not understand the instant transmission argument, I've never seen it used to gain an advantage in an actual fight, goku also has to concentrate for a few seconds to do it last I checked, haven't watched anything past the majin buu episodes. Second, lets leave out the kryptonite and tail pulling. Any cheap tricks would result in a cheap victory. If the anime writers for DBZ and the comic writers for superman got together and played the fight out for us, we would all feel jyped if goku won by useing kryptonite. Furthermore, of the two superman is far more likely to use a cheap trick to win and be more practical. Goku has always loved to fight and even in the DB series when he was a kid he would drag things out for fun. Goku loves to fight an opponent, and the stronger the better, so anything that would weaken superman would upset him and as for sensu beans, we have seen Goku give them to his enemies before a fight so he could fight them fairly, as such its a moot point. If they fight, no one wants a cheap victory, it should be both at their strongest, superman at his, and Goku at his, anything less insults us all. 3rd, going onto Goku's love of a fair fight, it would not be out of the question for him to hold back and not use SS3 or 4 unless he needs it, so even if Goku is the stronger at his strongest than superman at his, we would still have a good fight. Finally, as it has been said, unless someone familiar with the comics brings evidence to the contrary, the biggest difference between superman and Goku is Goku's ability to grow stronger and challenge himself, and superman's lack of desire or motivation to better himself would be the biggest cause for his defeat, as such I suggest a new fantasy. Lets have superman go to Goku's world and have Goku inspire him to become a better fighter, after all superman has no equal in his universe to spar with or to challenge him. Let superman do the gravity training, the time machine, and learn some martial arts. At the end of it superman would be Goku's equal with a lot more versatility, he might even get e new hair color, jking. But that would be something to see. In the end I say superman's potential is largely limited, not so much by a lack of strong enemies but by a lack of strong friends to train with and grow stronger, where would goku be without roshi, krillan, king kai, vegeta, and all the people he trained with and all the people who taught him? That's just my 2 cents
  7. The biggest let down for me was the cancellation of the 3rd season of school rumble, my favorite anime and it gets scraped on a cliffhanger and to this day it bugs me.... not sure if that counts though as its not so much the series as its untimely demise I will second all the death note mentions, it lost most of its apeal when L died and he was the only one I could accept taking down kira, the two kids who replaced L were rather insulting and we never learned his real name. If kira killed the 2 kids and re-created the world as its deity of sorts it would have been better, though still not a good end to the series. As to the basilisk mentions, I have to disagree, I loved the tragic nature of the series and wish more anime did ballsey things like that, to me it was like a japanese romeo and juliet only a hell of a lot more kick ass, but it is a matter of opinion. Ai Yori Aioshi, the entire 1st season I was waiting for everyone to discover the relationship between the two main characters, and I was soo pissed when it ended and everyone was still oblivious. It was like epic blue balls, and the disappointment was so great that I refuse to watch the second season for fear of more disappointment... Eureka 7, such an awesome series with such a panzycore ending, no real resolution, left me feeling empty. Air Gear, I loved the whole roller blade street gangs with their own culture but they started going downhill when they got religious, and I hated the cage fight episodes. A cage fight completely defeats the purpose and awesomeness of all the cool air blade stuff, even if it did have some deep point, it still sucked. The fighting was so much cooler when they were in motion, the wannabe DBZ martial arts bs is something I personally loath. Needed more blading and less drama and story. As to all the vampire knight mentions, I too have trouble getting into the series. The whole teeny bopper craze for troubled vampires who are good at heart and don't want to bite people is just a bunch of homosexual carebear bs that defeats the purpose of vampires. A good vampire in my book, even if troubled as such, should be a bit more psycotic and have more mental scars, like the laura k hamilton books until they turned into cheesy porn around book 4 or so. Those were vampires, they had issues, they were inherently evil as a vampire should be, the whole ann rice gay vampires experimenting with their sexuality, the Twilight vampires who are immune to sunlight but avoid it because it makes them look too pretty, and all other impotent friendly vampire media is more than a little disappointing to me, they might as well chop their balls off when they remove the teeth. Black Cat, it started out strong until episode 4 or 5 when black cat stops being the tormented cold blooded killer and throws away his trench coat and turns into a total goober. Series went downhill after that, very disappointing after such a strong start. Peacemaker, it starts out with the whole "joining the shinsengumi will turn you into a demon" giving me high expectations for a good action series and the main character doesn't even get a sword until the second to last episode and only does one short fight lasting only a few seconds. 3 episodes in and I had already chosen a song to turn it into a music video when I finished watching, would have been awesome too if it actually had some action in it... And I think I'll end my little rant their before I piss off everyone off lol
  8. Loved ouran, absolutely hilarious as long as your comfortable with your sexuality.
  9. Shuffle, I'm not sure if anyone noticed, but in spite of being seriously saturated with fan service, they never show a single pair of tits.
  10. Black Cat was kick ass until the main character went goober. I mean seriously, he starts out all dark and broody then his love interest dies and he does a 180 to mr. happy go lucky? WTF? Air Gear, it was kick ass till the whole cage fight bull. I loved the whole blade gang culture they had going but they moved the emphasis from skating to fighting and took the whole road thing way too far and got a little supernatural which kinda killed it for me, with what they had for a series, doing something more on the realistic side of things, like beck, would have been major kickass, and drop the philosophy and spiritual bull. Code Geass, season 2 went downhill, been discussed enough I won't bother Tenjou Tenge, had a cool start but the story kept going in random directions, and then was dropped before getting finished, but went downhill around the time when they rehashed all the past events of years before Steel Angel Kurumi, 1st season was a good show and they should have stopped, 2nd season they got way to carried away with the whole lesbian love triangle thing, and it just kind of sucked Death Note went downhill after L died
  11. if you take the vandread recommendation then also try martian successor nadesico for comedy I recommend school rumble, absolutely hilarious but try for yourself If you haven't watched it then give Beck: Mongolian Chop Squad a try, there is a censored and uncensored version, only thing I can really say about it is that it kicks ass Girls Bravo, if you haven't watched it then judging by your list I'd say you missed a biggie, like maburaho, magicano (demon king daimao is also like those two only a little more action as well), love hina, and DearS then this is a must, extremely pervy, lots of nudity, absolutely hilarious and does it better than any of its kind in my book, you should also check out sekirei and shuffle as well on the same note as those if you don't mind going old school then check out cowboy bebop and trigun also, give eden of the east a try, you'll either love it or hate it I'm tired and thats all I can think of right now, sorry
  12. Spice and Wolf, the content is unoffensive, nothing perverted, has an excellent story, action elements are mild and the romance is there but subdued, there are a few scenes in the beginning that contain a bit of nudity, mostly the first two episodes but its not done in a pervy way, if she wouldn't have been offended by the skin shown in the 5th Element movie (if you watched it, not an anime but an older movie) then she won't be offended by this, the real hurdle would just be a few scenes in the first 2 episodes Honey and Clover also has elements of romance and a bit of drama and a decent amount of comedy but is fairly down to earth, no nudity and very little that is perverted, has a couple different love triangles and doesn't focus too much on their resolution but enough to keep them interesting without being overly dramatic and sappy, the second season I couldn't make it past the second episode though... Beck: Mongolian Chop Squad there is a censored and uncensored version and its a pretty big diff, its about a garage band mostly but has romance elements but remains mostly about a band, excellent story, aside from the language I don't think there would be anything offensive in it Fruits Basket is another good one and it targets a female audience but it is also my second favorite series, a good deal of comedy but the romance elements are left mostly to the imagination if that makes any sense School Rumble is a romantic comedy with a bit of everything, more comedy than anything else and absolutely hilarious, its a bit random at first but there is a coherent story that is easy to see after about the 3rd or 4th episode, lots of love triangles and awkward moments, an excellent watch Ouran High School Host Club is a reverse harem anime that will put most people off in the very begging but has a good story and is absolutely hilarious, has some mild gay humor but no one is actually gay, at least I don't think so, mainly makes fun of pretty boys trying to charm the ladies and a normal down to earth girl who sees right through them caught in the middle, if you can make it past the first episode its a great series If she enjoyed please teacher then I would suggest Ah! My Goddess and Love Hina, but they are dangerous choices that might offend, especially love hina, but if they dont and then she may enjoy them quite a bit xxxHolic is more about the supernatural and mystery but has a good deal of comedy, very mild horror elements, and hopeless romance elements, very good series and stays interesting, unless she has the same superstitious stance against magic and spiritualism as most christians it will probably be a good watch Kaze no Stigma is an action series with a decent emphasis on romance and has a bit of comedy but is more action Ruroni Kenshin (sometimes called Samurai X) is a classic, mostly action but has a bit of everything and I cant imagine it being offensive Eden of the East, WARNING: lots of censored male frontal nudity in the begging and the end, very good story and plot has a bit of drama and romance, excellent series if the frontal nudity doesn't stop you from watching it, basically the main character starts holding a gun in front of the white house stark naked and with amnesia The 12 Kingdoms is an excellent series but a bit on the serious side, the romance elements are very minor, a good deal of fantasy, action, drama, and intrigue A bit risky but Death Note, its a judgement call but has everything you said she liked and is a dark series but if she was ok with lelouche it may be worth a shot, not much in the way of gore but a lot in the way of murder, watch the first couple of episodes and make a judgement call Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicles, an action series but light hearted with a bit of comedy, the romance element is very strong, serious, and deep, basically the main character is on a journey to repair the soul of the woman he loves at the cost of her memories of him, and he endures the sacrifice selflessly out of love for her, if she wants romance and drama but not something overly serious then this is an excellent choice thats all I can think of off the top of my head, hope it helps
  13. There is no series like spice and wolf, but if you want something a little more out of the ordinary I'll see if I cant recommend a fix for the same things you may have liked about spice and wolf Kanon and Clannad are splice of life and are based in high school, they have mild fantasy elements and focus on amusing dialog with bits of drama here and there, as I said there is nothing like spice and wolf but if you liked the chemistry between holo and craft lawrence then it may hit the spot, I would also second Ah! My Goddess, though again nothing like spice and wolf its still based a lot on the relationship between 2 people and the girl is a goddess so that is a similarity but the formula is very different as is the style. Also, Honey and Clover is another splice of life, while completely lacking any fantasy elements and again being nothing like spice and wolf, it has a similar feel to it. Also, if you want something different and out of the ordinary, and again I apologize for not having anything like spice and wolf, but if you liked spice and wolf you may get sucked into it, its Beck:Mongolian Chop Squad, rather than describe that one just watch an episode of it and see if it hits the spot, but alas spice and wolf is a series that is unlike any other and is in a class by itself but in a way thats why it will always be one of the most memorable series I've seen
  14. under 13 episodes, no sequel, and blow your mind. My first thought is Baccano, but serial experiments lain is a total mind fuk so I'll second that but I don't think its under 13 episodes, but I wouldn't remember that for sure. But if you want action and short, Baccano oh, and on high school of the dead, I found the fanservice absolutely hilarious, when the bullet went between the two jiggling boobs going in directions that completely defy physics I literally rolled on the floor laughing and couldn't stop, if you don't take the fanservice seriously its some of the most hilarious I've seen, and I've seen a lot
  15. if you liked dbz make sure to check out dragon ball (DBZ's prequel) if you haven't, that said, if your into that sort of thing then bleach, naruto, and full metal alchemist are to varying degrees based on the same formula, haven't watched much fma so I cant say much about it but the primary diff between bleach and naruto is the age group they target, naruto targets age 13 and bleach age 16, they are close enough that they are watched by the same audiences but the 16 and up group sees a distinct diff in maturity level and as such tend to start a lot of crap, so the fans of either series don't often get along, but both are good for what they are. As for the original poster The 12 Kingdoms- its a story driven fantasy anime with a good deal of intrigue and a bit of action, about 50 eps long but is not to be grouped with long series, you'll know what I mean Spice and Wolf- a bit slower then most and also story driven, mostly plot with a bit of suspense, not a whole lot of action though, very good series if you like a good story Honey and Clover- if you liked clannad and kanon (if you watched clannad and not kanon then watch kanon) then you will like this, its splice of life but on a college level xxxHolic- bit of a mix of comedy, fantasy, and horror, the horror tones are light and is more about spiritualism and mysticism, but it is kind of like the outer limits of anime in some respects, good series though it may put you off at first School Rumble- my favorite comedy and has a lot of different elements to it, its not so random as to be lacking intelligence or plot like FLCL, Excel Saga, and Cromartie High School, but it has a good amount of random humor but has a good deal of plot as well Martian Successor Nadesico and VanDread, very similar space based mecha-ish comedies, not to be grouped with gundam or code geass type mechas, more comedy than serious but still have decent plots and a bit of action, main focus is on comedy though Girls Bravo- very pervy anime but they do it well and is absolutely hillarious, in my opinion the best of the pure comedy harem types of anime Shuffle- very pervy serious anime, has a bit more drama and plot than most of its nature, very well done though 90% of the nudity and pervy moments are just of underwear, very little actual nudity though you have to think to notice that Beck- not like any anime out there, completely realistic, no fantasy or goofy animation, a good bit of comedy but be careful to get the uncensored version, if you don't hear the f-bomb in the first episode or subsequent, its censored. Its mostly about a band trying to make it big, not the only anime with that plot but K-on and the others are nothing like it, very punk and street level and very well done, if your into any and all kinds of anime then you have to watch it, cant really explain but it just kicks ass Baccano- action mostly with some horror and supernatural elements, skips around a lot in the first half so its a bit confusing at first but its that way for a reason, has a lot of stories going on and all get tied together by the end, excellent story and good if you want something out of the ordinary Kaze no Stigma- a decent action series with a bit of romance, a bit on the serious side but not completely lacking in humor, I mention it mostly to throw in an action option not mentioned but a decent series and a good watch if your itching for action and cant find something you haven't already seen Great Teacher Onizuka or GTO- if you haven't watched this yet then your missing out on one of the best all around school based comedies and a bit more on the mature level than most high school comedies, one of the best comedies out there in my opinion and a good story thats all I can think of off the top of my head that should satisfy a desire for something interesting, different, or just good
  16. Kanon if you liked clannad, kanon came first but they are very similar if you want things that are more pervy, and by your description I would say harem is what you are looking for as all poll options are harem, try these Love Hina - hilarious and classic harem Maburaho and Majikano- I watched em both almost back to back so I cant remember which is which as they are very similar and both have a lot to do with majic, one of them is very similar to shuffle except more pervy and a little less drama Ai Yori Aioshi- this one is more on the romantic side of things with a bit of drama, but still has plenty of random pervy humor interspersed. About a guy from a wealthy and powerful family who forsook his family name and is later tracked down by the girl he was once promised to because she still wants to marry him. They get a house together but for the sake of reputation pretend that she is his land lady and as such slowly accumulate a nice harem of girls crazy about the guy without realizing that he's taken, and he cant tell them. If you check out tenchi above mentioned, great show, then Dual paralel trouble adventure is another good one though the main character never chooses a girl in either, but still hilarious High School of the Dead, the first zombie harem I've heard of if you want something a little different, the series isn't fully dubbed and I hate subs so I don't know if the guy picks a girl but I think there is a good chance that he will, but it could go either way To Love Ru- only in subs, I bought the dvd and found out the company who did it are elitist ant-dub people which pisses me off and I watched it out of spite, that said its a great series about how extra terrestrial encounters can seriously screw up your love life, the guy almost but not quite chooses a girl, close enough anyhow Vandread and Nadesico- space based anime with a bit of mecha, both harem, nadesico was supposed to be a hard core mecha anime but the director knew nothing about mecha, only comedy, as such it ended up being a harem anime about the ships cook becomes the head pilot and the love interest of all the ladies, Vandread is very similar but more a battle of the sexes as men and woman split up to separate sides of the galaxy believing the other gender to be hideous monsters, when a group of lady pirates have to work with captured male soldiers they have a nice fun awkward time learning about the opposite sex they had been raised to fear, very much a harem. It's been a while since I watched them so I don't remember if there was a finally put to the love triangles but in both series there is a lady who is the obvious love interest of the male lead Sekirei is another good pervy harem series with lots of action but the male lead is against choosing one lady over another as they are all special to him, so your girlfriend might not want to watch it UFO Ultramaiden Valkyrie- a very controversial suggestion, the main character's life is saved by the main heroine and only love interest by her giving him half her soul, as a result of having only half a soul she spends her days as a child transforming into an adult ocaisionaly, as such be prepared to feel very dirty about the lolita aspects, though they don't put any emphasis on pedophilia beyond giving crap to the main character, that said, it has a lot of romance elements, a good bit of harem, and a lot of random humor, especially if you listen to things said in the back ground, if you can get past the annoying lolita its a good series and in spite of the main characters love interest being a child most of the time it does not flirt with pedophilia anywhere near as much as a lot of other series that throw in little girls for pervs who get off on that sort of thing, shuffle having some descent examples as does tenchi Ouran High School Host Club- If you can get past the reverse harem aspect and get over most of the characters being pretty boys flirting with homosexuality and a plain looking female lead (doesn't take long to do this, but the first couple minutes are exceedingly awkward if you are uncomfortable with guy on guy action, no kissing or anything like that, but watch and you'll see, don't let that scare you) it is absolutely hilarious and has a lot of romance elements, there are only two real love interests for the girl and she leans heavily to one side, its well worth watching. Search for harem anime and you will find a but load along the lines of shuffle and girls bravo, but its a toss up as to the ones where a guy chooses a girl and the ones that suggest but give no closure and the ones where they guy remains adamantly indecisive wanting to have it all (those seem to be the minority, middle is the majority) if you want series with elements of romance but not necessarily harem Elfen Lied- has some harem elements, but a very deep story, lots of blood gore and nudity, the main characters love interest is not quite human and has been a serial killer devoted to the destruction of mankind since childhood though he doesn't know it, a lot of deep and emotional scenes, lots of action, and the romance elements are strong, the main character does not make a clear choice but people can easily interpret one as having been made between the the serial killer and the other love interest Spice and Wolf- the romance elements saturate the series but remain subtle, I'm only half way through the second series but it appears that the relationship between the two leads is becoming more formal and clear, this is a slow moving show with more dialog than anything else about a traveling merchant and a giant wolf who can transform into a human with wolf ears and a tail and their travels together. Has a good deal of drama and suspense but is usually light hearted, a good series unless you have a short attention span or just don't like a series that's 90% dialog, there is another heroine thrown in near the end of the first series that proves more an element to make the wolf jealous than to serve as an actual love rival Moon Phase - The Main character gets bitten by a cute vampire who is a bit childlike and distraught that she cant control him because he is spiritually retarded, a decent amount of comedy and romance and a descent amount of action, main charachter never has to choose between love interests Kaze No Stigma- main character is kicked out of his family of fire magic users for being weak and returns later as a bad ass air magic user, a style of magic disdained by his family as inferior, the story revolves largely around him and his distant cousin who is the future head of the family and love interest, desent amount of action, good plot and story though unless they do a second season ,which is unclear if they will last I checked, as a lot of questions are left unanswered, for the most part the female lead has no real competition in the romantic department until a clone of the male lead's dead ex-girlfriend shows up to play mind games, a clear choice of love interest is made by the end of the series And because its my favorite, School Rumble, more random humor than anything, but a lot of romance elements and love triangles and outright confusion in the romance department, absolutely hilarious and by the fourth episode the plot becomes a lot less random. The main character only has eyes for one girl who never suspects it, and because he's and idiot he gets mixed up with a lot of other girls he doesn't want, and there are a lot of other side plots of other romances as well, but primarily a comedy Hope this helps
  17. Kanzaki from GTO, I'll second Revvy from black lagoon, I'll also throw in holo from spice and wolf and Yoko from the 12 kingdoms, she doesn't start strong but she ends there. And as I value strength of character tohru honda from fruits basket, though I don't doubt many people will say WTF to that, but watch closely and you will see great strength of character and heart throughout adversity, its subtle but strong, as her friends put it 'invincible love'
  18. To go with a lesser known I doubt many would think of, Kanzaki from great teacher onizuka, seriously, lighting people on fire, setting off bombs, making napalm on the fly, setting up yakuza to kidnap and torture people she didn't like, you did not want to fuck with her
  19. I would like to second Dual, it was an awesome series and I don't know anyone who has heard of it much less watched it, but it was awesome for mecha harem. I would like to add Full Moon Wo Sagashite, I loved the series and I wish they had finished dubbing it, it may be a sappy children's series but it was good.
  20. Sigurei from Fruits Basket Yuko from xxxholic Harima from School Rumble Sun Seto from My Bride is a Mermaid
  21. I rarely ever watch long series, kenshin and the 12 kingdoms are extremely long by my standards, though I did go back and watch all of dragon ball and watched DBZ until I reached the majin buu episodes at the very end. That said I occasionally give naruto another chance or try to remember what bleach episode I saw last but for the most part I am always looking for interesting series I haven't seen before and so most anime I watch is what I watch when I am bored.
  22. Kenshin, known to later generations as samurai x, no idea why they changed that name after it had been well known as kenshin but whatever
  23. List your favorite comedy anime. I'll start. 1.School Rumble 2.Fruits Basket 3.Girls Bravo 4.Ouran High School Host Club 5.Great Teacher Onizuka 6.Ranma 1/2 7.Slayers 8.Vandread 9.Matian Successor Nadesico 10.Tenchi Muyo
