  1. I guess I just don't understand your problem, because Windows has never just connected to my wireless router the first time. I've always had to at least type in the encryption key to connect to it. All you should need to connect to your router is the SSID, encryption type, and encryption key. Did you set the SSID on the router to be hidden, if that's the case ubuntu is probably unable to see it.

I haven't used ubuntu for awhile now, but have you checked its network manager. It may not even see your wireless card if the drivers are wrong. There could also be a box in the network manager that must be checked to activate wireless networking. I think I remember seeing something like that the last time I used ubuntu.

  2. I just hope that none of this leads to like sexual assault and shit like that because there are a lot of sick people out there and let's face it, if you're a sicko and you see a women topless you're gonna go for it.

I can't see how this won't be the outcome to women walking around topless.

While I'm all for equality, I can't say that I agree with this rule, at least not in the way it seems to be now. It just doesn't seem fair to anyone else around when people are going topless in crowded environments like long lines or a subway. That goes for men to though, I don't think anyone should have to be subjected to being in close proximity to a sweating shirtless person.

I do, however, think either sex should have the right to go topless at a beach or a pool. I think there should be specific places where people should be aloud to go topless, and everywhere else they should be required to wear clothing. I always appreciate the places that have a no shirt, no shoes, no service rule. I guess I'm just too old fashion, because I think people who insist on displaying themselves like that without any consideration to other people around them are just rude.

  3. I would want to come back as an Orca. I'd be smart enough to know I exist, big enough to not have to worry about any predators, and completely free of any financial worries. All I'd have to do all day is eat, swim, and fuck. I wouldn't even have to worry about wasting half my life sleeping. If it wasn't for whalers, orcas would have it made.

  4. having some issues with that it keeps trying to burn to a disc, but no discs like being burnt to...

    Is this referring to UNetbootin?

The link I gave offers instructions. All you have to do is give it an iso and point it at your flash drive. If it's not seeing the drive, try formatting it first.

What distro are you trying to use?

  5. A gun is not a force of evil, it is a inanimate object.

However, humanity is a fickle thing indeed and until it can be trusted (see:never) then we must regulate the access to weapons of extreme violence.

We have gun control here in England and although shootings have occurred, they rarely have the results of those in the USA as it usually involves shotguns whereas the usa has access to assault rifles, hand guns etc etc.

My argument is that-at its current stage and size-humanity and ultimately cannot be trusted.

I'm not disagreeing with anything your saying, but I do have a question since you are from England. Here in the States the healthcare system totally sucks. The poor and mentally ill have little to no access to the treatments they need. When they are lucky enough to see a doctor. They will usually just throw some pills at them and leave it at that.

How does England handle the poor and mentally ill?

I always hear the argument about how taking away guns is what solved the problem, but I've personally always thought the problem was bigger than just that. Doesn't England have a healthcare system that treats everyone regardless of how poor they are.

Do the doctors there do more than just pill the problem?

  6. For anyone who doesn't already know, Valve is porting Steam to linux. The game selection is pretty low at this point, but it looks fairly promising that Valve isn't going to back out of this one.

I've been waiting for Portal before I try it myself, but it's suppose to be in beta now. I'll probably install it when the new #! ISOs drop.

Have any linux users tried it yet?

I'm interested in knowing how good the other available games are. The only other one I've seen that interest me so far is Serious Sam.

  7. FUNNY STORY. My mom bought me a goldfish and my brother a betta fish, and come to find out, you can't keep them in the same tank because bettas are aggressive. So my mom put the betta into a separate bowl. At some point during the night, it jumped out of the bowl and died on the kitchen counter. We didn't even have that fish for 24 hours.

Where did your mom buy the fish, Walmart? They are horrible about not telling people which fish can't be kept together. I had a similar story when I bought my first puffer from there. Bought some neon tetras to go with it and the lady swore they would get along great. By the time I got them to the register it was just one fat puffer and some fish heads on the bottom of the bag.

  8. Pretty good list you have there, but some of the those shows make me feel really old. I can only think of one show that I remember the name of that you don't already have on that list. Viper and Viper. The first one was basically a much better version of Knight Rider, but the second one kind of sucked. It would come on after SeaQuest and I would insist on watching both.

I'm not sure but did you also have the newer version of Knight Rider that flopped.

  9. Also not sure if its a bug with the new system, but Admins now have a different icons. Doesn't match the other forum members any more

I'm also seeing a different icon for admins than the rest of the members. Everyone else has the newer icons with the arrows on top, but the ones for admins are showing up with one I haven't seen before. I've checked in both Dragon(Chromium) and Firefox. I've also tried clearing the cache and ctrl+f5 but neither has helped. I had the problem with the favicon on Dragon, like other Chrome users did, and that took a day to fix itself. It may be a similar problem so I'll report back tomorrow. Would like to add that Firerfox worked fine with the favicon and the newer icons until today. Below is what I'm seeing but I'm not sure if it's the same as lemmingllama.

  10. My 2 Cents, For What It’s Worth

First I just want to say that the opinions that follow are just that, OPINIONS. I’m not trying to say it’s the only way or even best way to save the forum. I’m not even saying it will save the forum. I’m not God so I can’t guarantee anything. I don’t think I have all the answers, I usually don’t even think I have good answers, let alone the right ones. I’m just offering my own personal opinion based on what I have observed.

I see a few problems with this forum.  First is a lack of quality members, people who post often and are always polite when they do it. I personally think the biggest reason for this is simply do to the fact that most people come here solely for downloading anime. They don’t care about the community and at times resent even being required to participate in order to download. These people should probably be pushed off the forum. Remove all anime downloads from the forum, and instead post them to EDK. It might also be a good idea for Koby to separate donation between the different aspects of the Kametsu universe, if this isn't already being done. Forum members who are only here for the forum, shouldn’t have to cover the bot tab for all the leeching ani-tards. Each part of the Kametsu verse should stand on its own merits. The ani-tards should be punished when they don’t supply enough funds for a given month. The bots should go offline until at least two months payment (or more) has been met. The same should go for the forum, and any other servers linked to it.

I also would like to bring back up the idea of starting some kind of online gaming tournament through the forum. Create some clans in different games that are popular with forum members. Maybe even try to acquire a private WoW server. From what I've read in different post about the “good ol’ days” of Kametsu, it seemed to be at its best when it had more to do with games than anime. I personally think new members that come to play games with each other will be far more loyal than the leechers we get now. It shouldn't be on one person to supply the funds to start the servers either. Donations should start first, and when enough has been acquired then purchase a server.

The second problem is the staff, Koby seems to get stuck with people who abuse their powers or ignore their responsibilities. Seriously, this forum has more dicks than a dildo shop. Being ignored is the last thing on the minds of new members. There seems to be a lot of rule skirting that takes place. People shouldn’t be allowed to ride the line of acceptable. People should be allowed to question the ideas of other people, but not their intelligence. They also shouldn’t be allowed to attack other people’s loyalties or any other aspect of their personality.

I will also freely admit to being one of the above mentioned dicks. I started off trying to defend other people “I” thought were being railed against. Only to one day realize I had become that which I was trying to fight against. I don’t think I’m the only person that fells this way either. There are good people here that, at heart, are only trying to help. They don’t realize they’re doing more bad than good.

The staff needs to step up in these moments and remind us to be polite. I’m not saying you have to start pissing people off by handing out bans either. Staff members should, however, speak up when they see something they feel skirts the rules. Send us a PM or something to let us know we’re coming off as a total dick. I’m not trying to pass off my faults on the staff either, but sometimes it’s hard to see how your post comes across to other people. What I might consider an honest opinion on a debate, someone else sees as a personal attack. Hell, there was a post like that in this very thread before it was deleted. People got offended by someone else's opinion and profanities were used. Someone (Ren?) stepped in and deleted the entire affair. This should probably be happening a lot more often.

I think the regulars of us, that know we fit into the dick category, should start taking are quibbles to PM. We should try harder to spare the rest of the forum from our childishness. There are also too many of us that have a bad habit of mini-modding. If you take issue to something someone else says, PM the person, don’t blast them in the public areas of the forum. If your worried about further fighting, invite a staff member to referee the dispute. I'm sure all of this has been said before, probably by EO, but we need to start letting it sink in. We’re the ones that make this forum un-inviting.

p.s. At this point I would like to apologize to any member that has ever felt un-invited due to my actions. I don’t intend to come off as a dick or attack anyone. I’m actually a rather nice fellow, but I call things as I personally see them. In my experience I find it best to just get it out so people know where you stand. I also really suck at English, so my ability to properly express my opinion is often hindered by my language fail. To those wondering, English is indeed my only language, and I do know how sad that is. I blame the Illinois education system!

  11. Windows 7 (main laptop)

    Crunchbang (dev laptop)

I wonder if anyone here even knows of Crunchbang Linux.

It's nice to see another Crunchbang user here, welcome to the forum.

As far as my used OSes, nothing has really changed. My main computer still runs Win7, but my netbook has Fuduntu and Crunchbang on it. I have stopped using SUSE and Ubuntu. I've also given up on Aurora ever being completed, that distro has become a bad joke. Crunchbang remains my favorite linux distro.

I'm considering playing around with Gentoo, Siduction, and OpenELEC (for possible HTPC). PCBSD also interest me because of Warden and the jail system. I'd love feedback from anyone who has already tried them.

  12. I'd stick with XP if you intend to actually buy the new copy of windows. That old of a computer isn't really worth spending anymore money on. Just run it into the ground and move on, maybe after a short prayer.

I would probably pick 7 over vista, but that's my bias opinion. I use to run the beta on my EEEPC 1000HE, and I was able to use aero on it. It wasn't the fastest thing in the world, but it really wasn't any faster when XP was on it. Some of your hardware might not be supported during installation, but a hardware update should be offered afterwards. Hopefully you won't have to dl a nic driver to get it to connect like I did. If 2 GB is your total max ram, then you'll probably have the same speed issues I did. I'm not sure if 2 GB would even do much good on vista.

If you really want to get the best out of that old hardware though, I'd try a linux distro. I know that's not the answer you want to hear, but windows would be bloat for something you just use for surfing the net.

  13. avisynth can do advanced splitting/joining of videos. there is also the option of mkvmerge if all you want is to join two videos and watch them.

I also agree with this, mkvmerge should be able to do this without the need for encoding.

Avisynth is probably the best way to do it by encoding. It has a steep learning curve, but splicing video together is one of the easier things to do.

LoadPlugin("x:\Program Files\AviSynth 2.5\plugins\ffms2.dll") # plugin needed for importing video/audiov1=FFVideoSource("x:\path\vid.xxx")  # for importing first video filea1=FFAudioSource("x:\path\aud.xxx")  # for importing first audio filed1=AudioDud=(v1,a1)  # for dubbing the first video and audio togetherv2=FFVideoSource("x:\path\vid.xxx")  # for importing second video filea2=FFAudioSource("x:\path\aud.xxx")  # for importing second audio filed2=AudioDud=(v2,a2)  # for dubbing the second video and audio togetherd1 + d2 # for splicing together mulitiple segments of videod1 ++ d2 # for splicing together mulitiple segments of video

The above script is just one example of how you could do it. All it's doing is importing the video and audio from both clips, dubbing them together, and then splicing them into one. The splicing part comes in at the end of the script. It's what the + and ++ mean. They represent two different ways of splicing (unaligned and aligned) so you don't need both.

At first glance avisynth scripts look like some kind of alien language, but if you slowly read through the easier ones (like above) you can start to understand what's going on.

  14. I love how this show takes characters you love to hate, and then makes you start to like them just before killing them off.

I didn't mean this to sound like I was actually sad this character died, but that I liked how they start to humanize some of the less attractive characters just before killing them off.

Merle, Axel, and Oscar all seemed to show a softer side just before getting the ax. Axel was by far the biggest WTF for me. I even felt a little guilty when he died.

I hope they don't make this a habit, but it's nice to have a sudden twist every once in a while.

    =============================================

I thought this last episode was awesome, even Beth was getting into the action. I was sad to see a certain person die, but his death did bear fruit.

I hope this episode also means the old Rick is back, crazy Rick was not cool.

All of this should make for an interesting 4th season.

The Talking Dead after show also brought up a really interesting question. What happens when an old person dies in their sleep? Someone like Hershel, he's already inside the prison and would most likely be near other people.

  15. Well, Malaysia was a very interesting race. Vettel gave me yet another reason to not like him, Alonso lost his mind, and Hamilton seems to still be trying to compete with Vettel for F1's biggest cry baby award.

I was really hoping Webber would've kicked Vettel's ass right there in the winners circle. Someone needs to put that little punk in his place.

I did get a good laugh out of Hamilton pulling into the wrong pits. I would have loved to see the faces of those guys, or his when he realized where he was.

I would also like to say I like how NBCSports is handling F1, I didn't really think I would. It's nice to see what's going on with the race during the commercial brakes.

  16. I love how this show takes characters you love to hate, and then makes you start to like them just before killing them off.

I hope that Daryl and Carol hook up now, I've been waiting for this since the middle of last season. Somebody other than Glenn needs to get some action.

  17. I would have voted Rick during the first two seasons, but the crazy "I see dead people" Rick, isn't as impressive as the old one.

I'm not to sure I like the new Glenn either.

I decided to vote for Hershel. He's kind of like Dale, but not dead yet. Him, Carol, and Beth are starting to grow on me now that the rest are becoming so dark.

I also like the new Daryl, but I doubt he'll be hurting for votes.

  18. I decided to look into this since I have a MyBook. I did a quick search and found this thread. Do you know if your drive uses SmartWare? There may be a small board in the unit itself that's designed to work with the SmartWare software in a way your pc can not. This could be why windows can see it but not read it.

I'm still not entirely sure if it's an actual hardware or software issue. I know my drive loads a bunch of software bs when plugged in because I never wiped it completely before using it. Hopefully just giving the drive a good format will eliminate this problem, but I'd have to experiment to find out.

This doesn't really solve your problem since I'm sure you have files on the drive you want. Do you know anyone that has a functioning unit you could temporarily use? You may be able to swap drives and get your files that way.

If no one else comes up with an easier solution. I'll back up my files and play around with mine. Is there something really important that you need off the drive right away?

  19. Dark-hunters comments had to do with some lame jokes I had at the end of my last post. I had them inside some [Anti-child] and [/Anti-child] tags. I figured that would be enough to show that I wasn't serious, but I under estimated his willingness to troll. I deleted all of them once I realized he was trying to troll another thread. I apologize for my involvement in causing this tangent. I'll know to keep that stuff out of my future post. I hope we can get back to the main topic now.

    =======================================================

I blame a lot of the things people do on genetics and evolution, but I also strongly believe that a persons environment influences genes and their development. I don't believe, however, that girls are less aggressive than guys. I honestly think they are more aggressive. I witnessed more fights between girls in high school than I did guys. The outcome of those fights were also a lot worse than the one between guys as well. Guys seem to fight for dominance and stop when someone gives up. Girls seem to fight to destroy their enemy and don't stop until someone is utterly humiliated. The intention of this seems to be about making the loser as undesirable as possible. I think cyber-bulling is just a means of accomplishing this goal without incurring any personal damage.

I think the biggest reason that girls get the label of being good, has to do with the fact they had to be good for years. For a long time women had no rights and did what they were told, or paid the consequences. They were just playthings in a male dominated world, so a lot of that aggression went unnoticed. A lot of the old world ideology is still with us today, and I think that has a major influence in our overall environment. We've evolved to a point were our own opinions of each other effect our development more than the actual world we live in. Think of it like this, if you had to choose between a hungry tiger, or having your best friend tweet that really embarrassing photo. Which would you choose? I know several people that would take their chances with the tiger, I might even do it myself.

I do agree with the idea that it's more tolerable for a little boy to be bad than a little girl. This all goes back to those old world ideas, and the idea that boys must grow up to be strong while girls must be gentle. I think this just mask the true nature of boys and girls though. I'm not saying that girls are more likely to get in I fight either. I'm just trying to say that a female will deal with her enemy in a more brutal fashion than her male counterpart.

  20. If you're actually from the Ukraine, I don't have an answer for you. I live in the US, here it's broadcast on NBCSports. It use to be on Speed, but I guess NBC outbid them once they realized it was coming back to the US. I usually end up missing have of the races because of the time zone difference, but I try to follow the stats on Formual1.com.

The season started this weekend in Aussieland, and Kimi Raikkonen won. To my surprise Hamilton beat both of the McLaren cars. I have no hope of him actually winning the championship though, so I'll most likely be cheering for Kimi and Alonso. I'm just not a very big Vettel fan.
