  1. Since it's all that seems to be on at the moment, I thought I'd ask everyone their opinion of the whole Sea Shepherds vs Japanese whalers debate. Animal Planet has a show called Whale Wars that follows these guys as they chase and harass the whalers who hunt whales in what I believe is suppose to be Australian waters. Personally I still haven't really decided my position on this yet. I'm not a fan of them ramming ships, but I guess japan is guilty of this as well. I do support them blocking the transfer of whales however, especially if these are Australian waters they are doing this in. I am against the killing of dolphins by the Japanese that was shown in the movie The Cove. That movie made me sick, I never knew water could get that red. I put a link to the show's page on discovery channel's site for anyone you hasn't heard of this and is interested. I would also recommend watching The Cove. http://animal.discovery.com/tv/whale-wars/
  2. I built all my past desktops, but my current main desktop is a gifted HP. In its defense, I have replaced everything in it except for the mobo and cpu/heatsink.
  3. Tron: Legacy, didn't think it was as epic as first but I'd still give it an 8/10. It seemed more like a remake through the eyes of Sam Flynn then a sequel to me. The new light cycles and other vehicles were pretty cool though.
  4. I know this is a pretty old thread, but if there is anyone out there still offering invite codes. I wouldn't mind having one for myself.
  5. Thanks for the info Joker! I loved this show, the cg dinos were awesome. Favorite ep was when Nigel Marven was eaten by a Giganotosaurus. I have one question though, have you heard any rumors of a miracle come back of Cutter? I kind of thought the series started going down hill after he died.
  6. socom_hunter if you are still trying to solve this issue, I'll try to offer more help then I did in my last post. That post was basically meant verify there is a problem and then offer a rather half ass solution to it. I will admit that I'm not a professional of computers by any means, but I would like to say that I atleast know enough to offer something more then buy a new modem. In the networking class I took, like some 8 years ago, I learned to take problems like this in steps. Step one verify the problem, step two isolate the problem, step three troubleshoot problem, and step four solve problem. My original post really did nothing more then verify that your computer isn't actually talking to you modem. From the "My computer said the modem was initializing to my computer" quote, I assumed that you were using some kind of quick installation wizard to install the modem. If this is wrong and you still want my help with this, please try to explain how you are trying to initialize the modem. As far as my above post goes, the ping command does have to do with ethernet because it is used to check the connection to your modem over said ethernet connection. All that really does is just verify there is an issue. The ipconfig which does what I explained in the first post, will tell you if you have an IP address already. This can help because if your computer has an address that is conflicting with the modem IP address they will not be able to communicate. A conflict of addresses would be both the PC and modem having the same address or the two having addresses that aren't compatible like a modem address of 192.186.1.1 and a pc address of 191.168.2.2. If you are using a quick install program to install the modem you may just need to install it manually by entering the IP address on the bottom of your modem into your web browser and inputting the required info. If you still have documentation on the modem, then it should have a manual with "how to" instructions for manually installing your modem. If not, you can try going to the modem manufacturer's website and see if they have a pdf version you can download. I wouldn't just go out and buy a new modem though, because there wasn't anything that a read in the original post that isolated the problem to the modem itself. If you still want my help you can also PM me and I'll try to help that way. If you think I just need to go take a ride on the short bus then just tell me to fck ff and I'll wash my hands of this, but I really don't see the need to spend money on a new modem until you have atleast isolated the problem to it.
  7. If you have tried a different ethernet cable and it is still not connecting you can also try pinging it to see if any packets are getting through. You can do this by opening Command Prompt and typing "ping ###.###.#.#" without the quotes and replacing the #s with the IP address on the bottom of your modem. Typing "ipconfig" or "ipconfig /renew" are other options you can try. IPconfig will show you your current network settings like IP address, subnet mask and default gateway and the /renew resets your network adapters. If none of these have helped, you can also try resetting the modem itself. There should be a small button on the back probably something that would require a pen or something similar to push in. Just make sure you have any passwords/user name information written down first, because I know my modem requires these to connect and they have never been saved when I did a reset. Hope this can help.
  8. Just finished Samurai 7 and Desert Punk. Samurai 7 was awesome Desert Punk not so much.
  9. Sorry about the miss read and understanding. I would also like to think you for pointing out that the ATI cards can handle audio without any kind of adapter or plug in. I’m afraid my tech knowledge seems to be a bit outdated these days. As for the problem at hand, if an add-on audio card that offers 5.1 audio out isn’t an option and the tech support from the manufacturer isn’t any help either. I would recommend posting your question in the Audio Theory section of the AVS Forum. It’s a forum that deals in a large array of audio video problems and technology. Afraid you will have to become a member to post there, but it is a great place to get tech help. Sorry I couldn’t be of more help to you. Hopefully someone else here can offer a better answer.
  10. Well I think the main problem you both are having is that the computer isn't sending audio through the HDMI cable. Computer Graphics cards don't have anything to do with sound and to my knowledge there aren't any that carry sound in or out of a PC, unless maybe a graphics/capture card similar to a ATI All-in-Wonder. Even with an all-in-wonder I believe the audio is still sent to a audio input for proper processing. Some PCs come with a S/PDIF out on the mainboard itself. If yours doesn't have one of these and the other connectors are not compatible you may want to consider upgrading to an add-on audio card that has connectors that are compatible. With all the people building Home Media Center PCs now a days I think finding an add-on card shouldn't be to hard. Hope this helps.

  12. If converting to MKV is your goal then a gui frontend for MEncoder is probably what you want. There is more then one but AutoMen is the one I've seen mentioned in these boards. I've tried it in the past but never could get it to work right. Another alternative is Handbrake, which is the one I use for converting DVDs to MKV. It works alright for DVDs and meg2 but I haven't had much luck with Downloaded MKV though, and I refuse to have anything to do with avi. I think MEncoder with a gui would work best for you but I'm not sure how they do with audio and subs. I know they will allow you to select between them but not sure how many you can add to the MKV file. This is the only place I really give Handrake any credit because it will let you add more then one audio and sub to the MKV file. Most I've added to date is 4 audio and 6 subs. If you want to convert MKV into something else MediaCoder is probably what you want. It isn't easy to use but once you tame it, it will take anything you through at it. Hope this helps any questions just ask. I also put links to the three I mentioned below. AutoMen Handbrake MediaCoder
  13. If you want a bootable linux thumbdrive you can try UNetbootin. It works on both Win and Lin and supports alot of different distros.
  14. The only external hdmi port that I know of would still require a input port on your laptop. If you don't mind switching to composite video you could use a usb video input adapter, but you would suffer lag when playing games. Like Snow mentioned the laptop monitor is connected to the mainboard directly so any video inputted to it needs to go through the computer first. The lag is caused by the time it takes the video to go through laptop. I would recommend a portable display over a connection to a laptop.

  16. I you like a conclusion to Submarine 707R, it just leaves you hanging. A another season of Elfen Lied would also be nice.
  17. Taking it to a professional would be the better option here especially if it's free. I would still recommend trying out ccleaner in the future. You could even ask the techs what software they recommend for cleaning the registry. Hope you can get things fixed soon, and sorry I couldn't be more helpful.
  18. Welcome to the forums from a fellow Illinoisan. Do you live in the city itself or suburbs? Anyways hope you enjoy your stay here.
  19. Do you have ccleaner on it by chance or another registry cleaner? Have you tried booting into safe mode yet? It could be something simple like a registry error.

    hello

Hello and welcome to the forum. The animes I would recommend for you are Bleach, Moribito, Tactics, and maybe Last Exile. The Anime Downloads link at the top right of the site has a list of animes you can dl from this forum, but you need at least 5 post to gain access to the links. Hope you enjoy your stay.
  21. It could still be a virus because not all virus coders are out to steal personal info, some just want to bugger your system as best they can. I need a little more info though before I'm ready to call it a virus or say to reset the whole thing however. Does it go to the black screen when it is loading the desktop itself or is it before you log in to your account? Can you move the mouse cursor across the screen when the black screen comes up or is it frozen? Is it the arrow point cursor or the loading circle you seen when the black screen is up? I had this problem a few times myself when I was trying to tolerate Vista but I never had the network problem and a restart would usually give an acceptable fix. Something seems to be preventing the desktop from loading completely, but without more info I can't tell if it is a virus, corrupt file, or some other issue. Worst case scenario though you should be able to use a bootable linux iso to retrieve any important info and do a factory reset, but it may not be necessary.
  22. Have you tried booting into safe mode and running a virus/spyware scanner? If you have ccleaner or another registry cleaner I would give it a once over as well. Did you install any new software the last time it was working or download something from torrent or another p2p software? Is doing another factory reset out of the question? Encase you don't know how to boot into safe mode you can do it by hitting the F8 key when windows starts to boot up. It will give you a prompt that you can use the up/down arrow keys to select the option you want.
  23. You could also try a store like Gamestop not sure where you live but they are suppose to have stores all around the world. If they don't have the game at a local store they can have it shipped from a store where they do have it. I don't know whether or not you can use paypal on their site though.
