  1. For sword fighting I would recommend: Samurai Champloo Samurai X Movies Rurouni Kenshin Blood + For guns I'd recommend: Trigun Cowboy Bebop Gunslinger Girls 1 & 2 Other good ones I would recommend are: Trinity Blood Hellsing Ultimate Moribito
  2. DVDFab is what I use to rip now. I read that AnyDVD HD was suppose to allow you to watch the blu-ray on your computer with out having to worry about the copy protection, or ripping it first. I haven't used any of slysoft's software in a long time though, so I'm really not sure how good it is. I will most likely just rip and encode where my computer is concerned. Thanks again for the info on the drives, it's pretty much between the LG and an HP I found. The HP drive I have now really it's all that great so I probably won't go with them again.
  3. Well I was referring to the less obvious ones, like the snapshot which in the menu is listed as save image. For someone who has had the term snapshot imprinted into their head for taking video snapshots, trying to remember that it isn't snapshot can get annoying. It's easier to remember the shortcut. There are also other good ones that are buried in the menu like the increase/decrease shortcuts for size, width, and height. Those are ones that vlc doesn't even offer, but they're like two submenus in. All I'm trying to say is there are alot of handy things mpc-hc can do, but to use those features without a hassle you have to learn the shortcuts. I guess I'm just so use to vlc's set up, that moving to something totally different is to much of an annoyance.
  4. Thanks for the info guys, the LG was actually the one I was originally looking at buying, then I started reading the reviews. How long have you had that drive ChaosLegion, some of the reviews said the laser goes bad after a while. AnyDVD HD should remove the copy protection, but I would most likely rip and encode any blu-rays before actually watching them. That's what I do with all the dvds I get now.
  5. @Rob you can fix alot of the things I mentioned in my last post by playing with the filters. Mainly the Image Adjust and Sharpen filters are the ones that I would recommend. Regardless of how much playing you do, you will still get artifact lines in vlc that won't show up as bad in mpc-hc. VLC still doesn't preform as well when playing HD video either. I personally think mpc-hc with the YV12 Chroma Upsampling shader is about as good as video will get on your PC. The thing that keeps me going back to vlc is mpc-hc's right click menu, it's not as thought out as vlc's. I think mpc-hc is designed more for keyboard shortcuts, which I personally have no desire to learn.
  6. I've been looking into getting a Blu-Ray drive for a while now, and I would like to know if any one, that has one, bought a sub hundred dollar drive like the ones on newegg. I would like to buy as cheap as possible but I don't want to get crap. If you have a more expensive one that works really well, I would like to know what brand and model it is. Also how loud the drive is when reading a disk. I have an HP dvd-rom drive that sounds like a turboprop engine when reading a disk, and I would like to avoid this if possible. I've been seeing mixed reviews online about some of these drives, saying that they don't support some blu-ray disk or that the laser goes bad after a few months. I would appreciate any info anyone is willing to offer.
  7. Mobile Suit Gundam 0079 - 9 Mobile Suit Gundam: The 08th MS Team - 12 Mobile Suit Gundam 0080: War in the Pocket - 10 Mobile Suit Gundam 0083: Stardust Memory - 10 Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam - 7 Mobile Suit Gundam ZZ - 10 Mobile Suit Gundam: Char's Counterattack - 10 Mobile Suit Gundam Unicorn - 10 Mobile Suit Gundam F91 - 10 Mobile Suit Victory Gundam - 9 Mobile Fighter G Gundam - 7 Mobile Suit Gundam Wing - 10 Mobile Suit Gundam Wing: Endless Waltz - 10 After War Gundam X - 10 Turn A Gundam - 10 Mobile Suit Gundam Seed - 12 Mobile Suit Gundam Seed Destiny - 14 Mobile Suit Gundam 00 (Season 2 included) - 10 Mobile Suit Gundam 00 - Awakening of the Trailblazer - 10 Die G Gundam!! Die!!
  8. Personally, as a member of the USA, I refer to myself as a yankee, but when talking to people from other countries I use the term American. The reason for that is that with the exception for some Brits, Aussies, and Canadians, almost all other peoples refer to people from the United States as Americans. I guess that most people from the USA itself consider themselves Americans as well, and some (mainly in the south) would be insulted by the term yankee. I however, find it to be a badge earned with the blood of men and women that have died, are dying, or will die for the freedom we hold so dear. I would agree with you that the term American being used for any person from the Continent of America makes since, but as Koby pointed out due to America actually being in our name, we have been labeled with that title. I also think that the other countries don't want the term American to tie them to us, especially in times like we're in now.
  9. Personally I would like to see adult swim get its own network. That way it wouldn't have to be bound to child friendly shows like CN is. It could be Time Warner's version of an Animated Showtime or HBO and air some of the awesome anime adult swim really wants to air, like elfen lied, without it censored to a 5min episode. I don't see how they can spend money on an entire network for old canceled shows (Boomerang), and not see the value in having an adult only animation network.
  10. I really only use two media players on any OS I'm using. MPC-HC, VLC for windows, and Mplayer, VLC for linux. While I won't debate that mpc-hc has better playback then vlc, I do not believe that vlc is as bad as it's being made out to be. Like any other player out there vlc has problems, but the one thing I do like is that it is intended to be completely open source while mpc-hc (using cccp) requires microsoft's dxva. As for the player review, I recognize it almost word for word from cccp's wiki. I have no idea if this is the original source, but if it is I would personally call it a bit bias. The bottom line, in my opinion, is that if you use vlc and like it, then there is really no need to change players. If you are however interested in testing the difference in playback between the two (or you're having playback issues). Then I would recommend watching a video, side by side, in both players that has alot of solid black in it. You will clearly see that mpc-hc has a brighter and sharper image. I guess I should also say that I'm in no way a professional, but in my 7-8 years of watching videos on my pc. I have failed to ever have any problem with vlc that caused my to say "this player is evil". I really do feel for koby over the endless emails he has to deal with because of vlc, but instead of taking it out everyone that uses vlc. I would just make a comment on the main home page, that no one can miss, saying "VLC is not supported on this site, any person asking for help regarding VLC will be ignored". "If you are having problems with playback, please switch to a supported player like MPC-HC." "Failure to adhere to this rule could result in being banned."
  11. If you just want a comparison of codecs and containers you can check out the two links below. Codec Comparison Container Comparison Personally, my favorite codecs are mpeg and x264, and my favorite containers are mpg, mkv, and m4v/mp4. Mpeg is probably still my over all favorite because I am most comfortable with it, but as I get better with x264 I prefer it more and more. I use m4a/mp4 for all my music, and have done so for some time now.
  12. To be an American, means that I am entitled to all the rights offered to me in the Constitution as long as I am willing to stand up and fight for them, because the one thing that was left out of the Constitution is that the act of being free isn't free. It also (unfortunately) means I have the right to be foolishly judged and hated by foreign peoples due to the bias stereotyping of their national leaders and media who judge all of America by the actions of a few Americans.
  13. Another encoder you can try is handbrake, they released a new version this month that works alot better then the last one. It has built in presets for apple products like ipod and iphone. The old version failed alot when trying to encode mkvs that weren't encoded with it, but the newer version seems to be better. It's not perfect but as far as free goes it's the best I've used so far. Biggest problem with it now is that it needs vlc to play the preview encodes. While I don't really have a problem with vlc, handbrake seems to do something to vlc's files that cause it not to fully close when you let the preview file play till the end. I work around this by closing it when it opens and then playing the preview file with mpc-hc. If you decide to give it a try you can pm me and I'll try to help with some of the settings. I'm still learning myself though, so all I can really offer is what not to do.
  14. Another option you can try is DVDFlick. I've never actually used the subtitle feature to this program, but I know it has one. I think you will have to extract the subs (MKVextract) then add them through the subtitle menu. It is free and opensource though.
  15. Well CES (Consumer Electronics Show) is almost over now, and tablets were a hot item this year. Anyone that is interested in these tablets should be able to check tech review sites for info on some of the top products. The Motorola tablet I posted about in my original post now has a name, and managed to win some awards at the show. The name of the tablet is the Motorola Xoom but I haven't found a price yet. As for those who still don't know or understand what tablets are intended for, I will try yet again to explain. They are not desktop computers, and are not intended to compete with them in any way. The only computer they even come close to would be a netbook, because some use similar or identical hardware. What they are is a cross between a smart phone and an ereader. They have the size of an ereader and the same ability to display ebooks, but they also have an OS similar, or the same, to smart phones. They also offer downloadable apps like smart phones and will play music, videos, and offer games. The games are not the same ones on your PC, they are platform specific like the ones on smart phones. I understand not being interested in them because you have no use for anything smaller or less powerful then a desktop/labtop, but comparing tablets to desktops is like comparing bicycles to motorcycles. All it really does is misinform people who aren't sure exactly what the technology is or what its intended use is. As for a purpose other then the ones mentioned in my second post, you could use it as a substitute for carrying around a 60 pound backpack to all your college classes. There are also tons of task in the corporate, medical, and academic fields that these devices could be used for as well. In all honesty I would get use to seeing these things, because once they get the bugs worked out of them you're going to start seeing them pop up everywhere.
  16. If this thread about the Westboro Baptist Church who protest at funerals then they aren't protesting the war at all. They protest at military funerals to make claims that God killed the soldier out of anger for US tolerance of homosexuality. They also yell out comments to the people attending the funeral to the sum of "I'm glad your son is dead, he died protecting the rights of fags". There is a city in Missouri that is now trying to pass a law that makes it illegal to protest within a certain distance of a military funerals. My opinion of this is that these people are seriously sick. If you watch the reports on the news about these people, they always have kids with them. I can't understand why social services have not been called in yet. They are taking children to a protest with the sole intention to anger people as much as possible, how is that save. Albert Snyder, the father of a dead marine, is suing the church in the Supreme Court because of the protest they did at his son's funeral. He won once in a lower court then at an appeal the church won, and the judge order Albert to pay 16,000 dollars in court cost. Hopefully the Supreme Court will rule in his favor and finely put an end to this crap. Couldn't get the youtube tags to work so I just made it a link, sorry.
  17. The tablets I'm referring to are the ones like the Apple ipad. It's basically a touch screen with computer built in. They are being promoted as an ereader you can also watch movies or play games on. Apple iPad was the first one designed to be keyboard free, but the tablet pc has actually been around a while. Like the Motion Computing ones that were in the Stargate Atlantis series. I'm interested in them because I would like something small and portable I could use to read scanned comic books, as well as my manga, books, and even watch mkvs.
  18. Just wanted to see peoples thoughts on all the tablets that have been coming out lately, or will be released this year. While I'm not a fan of Apple, I have been waiting for tablets to become a reality since I was a little kid watching Star Trek TNG. Now that rivals are finally bringing something to market that can compete with the ipad. I'm trying to narrow down which one I might want to purchase. I was really interested in the epads that Asus has been working on, but they seem to be taking forever to release. Now that I've seen the new Motorola prototype, I really don't know what to think. I'm interested in your thoughts on tablets in general, and any you may be thinking of, or have already, purchased. I'm posting a link to the video I just saw for the prototype below. It uses Android Honeycomb as its OS and seems to be incredibly thin. Motorola Prototype
  19. Out of the two, I personally would go with Kim over Sienna for Faye. I think when you are making a movie about a story that has already been well told, that it's best to use actors that the bulk of your audience have not heard of or know very little about. The best example I can think of is what George Lucas did with the prequel episodes of Star Wars. Lindsey Lohan or Tara Reid playing Padmé Amidala would of made an entirely different movie. Big name actors often get type casted for a specific roll and when you put them in a roll that doesn't follow that stereotype the audience can have a hard time relating. That's my biggest problem with a Keanu Reeves, Spike Spiegel. I guess it is possible for actors to brake out of those stereotypes like Jim Carrey did, but I personally just don't think Keanu is a good an actor to pull that off.
  20. I'm all for anything that would add to the Cowboy Bebop story line, but Keanu Reeves as Spike Spiegel just doesn't fit in my opinion. Keanu was awesome in the first matrix but the rest of his action movies pale in comparison. The idea of him playing an awesome character like Spike saddens me to no end, it'll be worse then a Ben Affleck Dare Devil. I put a link to an article I found on MTV's site. Cowboy Bebop Movie
  21. An obvious choice would be XBMC, if it was supported, but it seems that the 360 hacks haven't unlocked the 360 fully yet. The Developers don't seem to have any desire to port to the 360 either, even if it does get fully hacked. There are other people working on it, because you can find videos on youtube, from Cygnos, that show XBMC running on 360. Hopefully they will figure this out soon, because I wouldn't mine being able to use it myself. There is some PlayOn.tv software I came across once that promised to do this with all the current consoles, but it's a pay program that doesn't list the codecs it supports. Only thing I have found on their site was a statement that said the supported codecs were limited. Which I'm sure means no support for mkv or any other less popular codec. I think best bet for this is with Cygnos, and that will probably take time. I went ahead and put a link to the video below. It doesn't show much, just the process of loading it. Sorry I couldn't give more help.
  22. An open source option you could try is Parted Magic. I would make sure you back up your data before you modify your partitions, just in case the process fails.
  23. From what I have read about this virus it is pretty nasty and extremely hard to get rid of. The last two symptoms listed on wikipedia says it can corrupt network drivers and delete network connections. It also seems that a simple reinstall of the drivers doesn't fix this. Are you sure it is completely removed? I'm not sure I'll really be much help for this one but I'm willing to try if you want me to. Could you maybe post the method you used to remove it and if you were in safe mode or not. Do you have a copy of the network driver and maybe a registry cleaner like ccleaner installed. I was thinking, if you haven't tried it already, that you could uninstall the network drivers then run ccleaner in safe mode to clean out any remaining registry errors and then reinstall the network drivers. You could also skip all this and go straight to a help forum like techguy.org. I'm not a member there myself but I have used some of the threads there for advice, and I have seen it mentioned in PC Magazine. They will most likely ask you to post logs to the thread from programs like Hijack This to help see what is going on with your system. Tech Support Guy This is a couple threads I found on the site about Vundo to give you an idea of what they ask. Vundo Vundo Virus & Ultra Defragger malware Hope some of this can be helpful.
  24. In order to use a PS3 controller on a PC you would need to have drivers for it. I know there are drivers for the PS2 controllers but have not heard of any for the PS3. Just did a google search and it popped up a bunch of of listings for PS3 controller on PC driver. I have never used any of them though, or heard of anyone else using them, so I would research before just blindly installing any of them on your computer. If by chance you come across a good GunCon 3 to PC driver in your search please let me know, because I've been looking for one.
