Just thought I'd share a few current screenshots of my main pc. The first is a screen grab of my win 7 desktop. The second in XBMC running on win 7. The last is my Ubuntu desktop.

Do you have a link to a video on the Kametsu site [preferable a small file size] you are having this problem with that I could dl? I would like to see if I can even get the subs to show up on any of my players.

@ anyone wanting or needing an invite code for demonoid. The registrations are open yet again as of the moment of this post. I would highly suggest you go to the site and set up an account while you can.

Ok, try going into Preferences and selecting the All button in the Show settings box at the bottom. Then click the triangle next to Video and select Subtitles/OSD. Make sure Enable sub-pictures and On Screen Display are checked. You will also have to close vlc and reopen it anytime you change something in Preferences.
-
have you checked yet to see if subtitles are enabled. In vlc it will be in the video tab but I don't know about movie player, I don't really use that one.
-
What player are you using? Have you checked the menu to see if subtitles are enabled?

Don't know if this is what you are looking for or if you have tried it, but I use Network Meter. It is a widget for windows desktop gadget software that comes with vista/7. There is also a pretty nice cpu meter gadget they offer as well.

Right now I'm downloading zegapain.

I can't believe how bad this is, my heart goes out to the Japanese because this is not going to be easy to come back from. I've been watching this all morning on CNN, and I'm blown away by the amount of damage that is going on over there. Yellowstone stone hasn't erupted yet, but if it does you can kiss a good part of North America good bye. This did happen, I was raised on stories of have bad that earthquake was. We are suppose to be overdue for a big quake from the fault, and an eruption from Yellowstone as well.

Well I can atleast say that this is suppose to be possible but I haven't actually found a "how to" yet. I also lack surround sound headphones to test any of it anyways. The one thing I can offer at this time is AC3Filter. It says that it will do what you want, and I seem to have been able to install it into mpc-hc's external filters. I have no idea if it is really doing anything though, because all I have is the cheap speakers built into my monitor. I think you will also have to configure it through its own gui rather then mpc-hc. It will most likely install itself in your Program Files folder PopCorn MKV AudioConverter isn't really an alternative, but it will convert the DTS audio to AC3 audio for you so you won't have to worry about "on the fly" converting. This program caused a ton of pop up alerts while I used but the programs home site did say that it would do that. It did successfully convert one of my DTS audio encodes to AC3 audio. Only problem is you will have to do this for each file your having issue with. I'll keep looking to see if I can come up with something better, but I'm not really sure how much help I'll really be on this one.

First off, I wouldn't get rid of your windows install. If you do a straight move to linux your going to hate it, because all you will do is think about all the things you can't do or don't know how to do. Linux and windows are completely different OSes from each other. You can't dl a program for linux from the web then double click it and have it install itself to your computer, atleast not with any distro i've tried. Instead linux uses a package manager that has a list of all the programs that are supported by your distro. When you find a program you want just click it to mark it for installation and it will install the program and all dependencies. If you are really wanting to try out linux I would first recommend trying some live distros. What the live means is that the entire linux os will boot and run from the disk. This means that when you shut it down or restart you computer you can go right back to using your windows os without having to worry about any changes being made to your hd. Most live distros are now starting to offer live versions that can be put onto a thumb drive or sd card as well. When picking a distro I would try sticking to something simple at first like ubuntu, mint, or elive. Since your new, I would try doing some google video searches for different distros or looking at some screenshots to try and find a distro that you find appealing. I would also recommend checking out vids or screenshots of linux distros that use blingware like compiz, or maybe e17. These programs offer cool effects for your desktop that you can't get in default windows. This will hopefully help keep you interested long enough to pick up on the generals of using linux. I think if you can get yourself excited about what linux can offer you, that it'll be easier for you to except what you'll loose. If you then find that you like what you see I would try dual booting with windows like others have suggested. You will have to set aside some free(unpartitioned) space on your hd that you can use to install the new linux partition. This is necessary because linux doesn't run off of the ntfs file system that windows uses, instead it will most likely prefer ext3/ext4. If you are wanting to check out different distros I would recommend Distrowatch.com. It's a hub of alot of the different distros that are out there. If you will be running this on your laptop you may want to checkout some debian or fedora based distros because there is a program called Jupiter that was designed to work with the super hybrid engine that is built into the asus eee-pcs but they have extended their version to work with laptops in general. It allows you to increase or decrease the processors output to either increase battery life or performance. I've been waiting for the AuroraOS (which has jupiter built in) to finally be release so I could use it for my eee-pc, but work has been stalled for about a year and half because the new installer isn't fininshed. If/when it is finished you may want to give it a look as well. And one finally note, if you want a distro that offers a good idea of the type of games that linux has to offer you can try the live linuX-gamers dvd. Any games you like on this distro should also be available in the package manager of any distro you select.

If you are wanting avi then handbrake won't work. It only outputs the mp4/m4v and mkv. I have read on the site that older versions encoded to avi but you would probably be better off trying Koby's suggestion. I've only used the current and last versions of handbrake, and neither encoded to avi. There is however a noticeable difference in quality, so I wouldn't give up quality for convenience.

I agree with MechaZen, the douche is gone and the military "says" they are going to honor the treaty with Israel. The new government is going to take time to set up, and may even need another revolt or two before they get something that really sticks. As long as they don't go declaring war on anyone there is no reason for us to involve our selves. Libya seems to be the real problem right now, that guy is crazy. Whether or not this all takes root in Saudi Arabia could be another problem. The global economy couldn't take the raise in oil prices.

OK, I'm not going to go into FlashGot since I already said it doesn't work, and I guess my last post did seem like I was saying it was impossible. For anyone who is wanting to download from Hulu or Crackle you can try StreamTransport. I original past over this program because its forum says it's no longer being developed, but I tried it on the Big and Rusty the Boy Robot eps from Hulu and it worked. I am also trying a digimon dl from Crackle right now to see if it works on that site as well, and as of right now it is downloading fine. I'm not sure how useful this program will really be since it's no longer being updated. So any show that's on one of these sites your interested in I would dl while you can. I'm not sure if this is the program Koby was referring, hopefully not because I would like something to fall back on when the encryption changes, but it does seem to still have a little life left in it. Edit: The digimon ep is finished downloading and is playing fine so StreamTransport should work on both sites until the encryption changes again.

idl12 is correct both Hulu and Crackle encrypt all their streams except for the commercials. If you use a firefox plugin the only video you will even see for dl will be the commercials. I also checked the site seirachan gave and the faq says neither site is supported. I'm finding it hard to believe that the open source community hasn't solved this yet. Thanks to everyone who has offered suggestions so far, guess I'll have to keep digging.

I'm in need of a bit of help guys, I'm looking for a good web video ripper. I've been trying to find something that will allow me to download videos from Hulu.com but haven't found anything that works. I'm trying to rip the Big Guy and Rusty the Boy Robot series, but every time I try the program just pops up errors. I would prefer to use a free program if anyone knows of any, but at this point I'll take anything that works. They don't offer this series on dvd and the only torrent I've found is an old demonoid one that's pretty crappy quality.

TV Rips How to capture and encode Anime or anything aired on TV?
† L4ugh replied to seaweeds's topic in Tech Center
1) Replay TV (It's old but still works and downloads straight to your PC). I have also heard you can hook up an external HD to one of the new Direct TV units and record to it but I haven't experimented with this yet. 2) Handbrake or MediaCoder 3) Video editing software like Sony Vegas, there are some free ones out there but finding a good one that's easy to use will be hard. -
Just thought I would let any Firefly fans know that The Science Channel is going to start airing the show on March 6th. I'm not sure if it will only air in USA or everywhere The Science Channel airs. It's only going to be reruns as far as I can tell, but I have been hearing rumors of Syfy bringing the show back. I'm sure they will be watching the ratings of the reruns on TSC to see if it is even worth the effort. I just hope if Syfy does bring it back that they don't screw it up like they did with the Stargate franchise.

Thanks for the + upgrade Koby.

If you really want a dog you could try getting a toy chihuahua. They are very small and can be litter box trained. Your landlord will probably not have as much of problem with it as he would a large dog that needs plenty of room to run or a cat that would claw at the carpet. One of my sister's in-laws has one and from what I have been around it they almost never bark. You would need to watch where you step though because these things are super small and seem to like hovering around your feet.
