I see there is not yet a thread on Citrus. This is one of the more interesting anime this season for me. At a shallow glance it looks like just some fanservice heavy and weirdly "rapey" lesbian romance show. But dang. Episode 4 (spoilers incoming) reinforced my hopes that it will have some deeper meaning. So on a spoiler free note: I think people who felt uncomfortable with the amount of sexual assault in the show should give it another try, they seem to bring in a much more differentiated perspective now. I quite like it

Holy shit i just saw the first episode of the Silver Soul Arc. They nailed it so hard. I am really hyped up. After the mediocre comedy arcs of the Slip Arc that actually felt kinda stale (i mean i gotta give Gintama credit, they kept up consistenly amazing comedy for about 300 episodes until the more serious storyline started). GIntoki coming back to Edo after the last 3 storyline arcs felt really satisfying and amazing.

So when I was a kid, of course I watched everything that was on german TV back then DBZ, YuGiOh, Pokémon, Digimon, One Piece, Beyblade and all that. Once I got a stable internet connection in 2004 that led to me discovering some low low quality Full Metal Alchemist fansubs which I devoured despite being really not competent in either english or japanese. But I still got it through piecing it together somehow. After the grandious amazingness that was FMA it went downhill for me. I still remember vividly how around the time when Naruto came out on german TV (late 2006) I was really out of the whole thing. And I started Naruto and it felt stupid. So I just stopped. Then I got into a circle of friends who all did not watch or like anime much and stayed that way. And when someone asked me if I was into anime I always said "Nah, not anymore. Naruto killed it for me." Well skip ahead a couple of years: 2015 - Since I am still big into JRPGs despite not watching anime I had to get around to the Persona games. Specifically Persona 3 and 4 at that time. When I beat Persona 4, realizing it was my favorite game, crying my eyes out over how beautfully crafted it is and how deeply it resonated with me I realized something: Fuck, I might have liked anime all the time, but I convinced myself that I didn't. (Due to my circle of friends not being into it, due to me being part of the horribly closed-minded and chauvinist Metal-Music fandom in my area) Then I talked to my girlfriend who is into anime and let her show me just a random anime, we watched it together in one sitting. It was "The Devil is a part timer", which is not exactly amazing, but nontheless I enjoyed it and realized: well, might as well try to tear down this wall between me and anime. Slowly over the years 2015 and 2016 I climbed back into anime, always still unsure as to wether or not it is for me. I watched the Persona 4 anime. Liked it. I watched Highschool of the Dead, kinda liked it. I started watching all the 10/10 favorites of my friends and convinced them to join MyAnimeList so I can view their favorites. I liked most of the stuff, but still.. I had my doubts. I just felt one thing was missing for me, and that was that one hook that really shows you the power of the medium. Basically I needed my first real 10/10. That came to me in the form of Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann in late 2016. Since then I have watched over 150 anime series and movies. TTGL might be the most perfect story I have ever seen. Not to say it is the best for everyone, but for me definetly. It picked me up at a phase of my life where I didn't have the power to fight the power to keep it short and simple. And it appealed to all my ideals that I started to bury beneath nihilism due to everyday life. Well it got my right out of that. Since then, not a single season of anime has passed without me checking out most shows. And i slowly started to catch up on classics and older great shows. I even started Naruto recently (while skipping filler) and I can truly say: Boy, was I a jaded annoying prick. Naruto is actually quite good and I just was pretentiously denying it back then. This I would consider the point of my full recovery.

Who the hell do you think I am? (Guess I'll tell ya!)
Nyard replied to Nyard's topic in Meet & Greet
Indeed it is! And now that I have finished my acutal post and edited it, you can see which one is at the top of my top 5 anime -
Yo! I would like to take your suggestions for what to tell about myself here to really get it goin, but first a little bit about my private self: Currently I am 23 years old and have been watching anime actively (again after a break of nearly 8 years) for about 1,5 years. As for my education, I am currently in process to become a high school teacher for English/Computer science in Germany. Dunno if that matters to you, but if anyone wants to discuss some related topics I'd gladly partake! Now then off to the questions: How did you find Kametsu? Well. Probably the most common way. Looking for some Anime. What do you think of the place so far?/ How active are you planning on being? It has been a long time since I've actively participated in a community. I cannot predict how much I will post, depends on how well I get along with the people here I'd say. But making this introductory post to enter the community already goes a long way I'd say, and I don't wanna half-a** it, so I'll do my best! Btw. I really like this system of introducing yourself before getting access to restricted areas. That really motivates people to socialize I guess. It did for me! What are your top five anime? Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann - If the thread title wasn't enough of a clue already. I adore this show. It's my favorite by a huge margin. It is possible that the Row row fight the power attitude has changed my life dramatically. Last time i rewatched this show I was either crying or having goosebumps all over or fist pumping in hype for the last 5 episodes straight. Gintama - The best moments of Gintama might actually be the only thing that comes close to my love for TTGL. You might assume right now, that I really like the cool hero type who only fights for his ideals and never lets himself get down like Kamina and Gintoki. Also this show is so damn funny. Hajime No Ippo - I also really like an underdog narrative and a rise to power and greatness of a likeable hero. Plus Ippo has some of the best fight scenes I have ever seen. Every match is immensly gripping. Welcome to the NHK - To get to the more somber side of my taste. This anime embodies lonliness and melancholy for me. By its music, characters and direction I really get dragged down to the lowest lows of my life and desires and can reflect upon them. This anime is a bittersweet masterpiece. Ghost in the Shell (1995) - This one pleases me intellectually. I actually wrote my bachelors thesis on the posthuman philosophy of this movie. I like to think of the beautiful message that the movie carries in especially the ending. Top five video games? Persona 4 (Rather Persona 3-5 but especially 4) - Playing these games got me back into Anime actually. I love em all to death. They cover a bandwith of emotions, intellectual discussion of topics and themes that really intrigue me to no end, be it emancipation, the Übermensch or ignorance/apathy. And in a narrative with such deep loveable characters. It truly is amazing. Oh.. and dont forget Pokemon Persona collecting! Dark Souls (Also Bloodborne and Demons Souls) - I might not even need to say anything about this since I guess everybody loves these nowaday. But let it be heard that I started before Dark 2 came out! [/hipster] The Witcher 3 - I alway love hated open world RPG, because nearly none did it the way I liked it, but I liked it enough to still play and be angry about parts I didnt like. Earlier titles like Morrowind and Gothic have been previously my favorites in this regard because they did the most things right. BUt then came TW3 and did EVERYTHING right. The story and characters are so beautiful and detailed that I cried more than once from sheer emotion. Metal Gear Solid 3 - I really love stealth games and this might be one of the most detailed ones with the most epic of story and characters. I played it so many times in so many different ways and I literally discovered new strategies every single time. Hitman (2016) previously Blood Money - As I said, I love stealth games. A great Hitman game works like a clockwork in which you are trying to enter in order to stop the whole thing with a perfectly executed "accident"/murder. I love these playgrounds of strategy and cunningness. What other hobbies do you have? Gotta be real with you folks: I don't. I watch anime, read manga and play video games. I sometimes pick up some music production software to experiment with sounds, synths and samples, but the result is never music but rather a sound collage I liked. But I dont do it often enough to really consider it a hobby. Make any graphics? Not really. Back in the day (2006-2008ish) I was active in the RPG Maker community and did pixel art, but I neither was ever really good nor did I make much. Do you have any questions for us? Nope! Ok so far for the introductions! Can't keep going for ever, need to keep some interesting topics over for the forums Hope to talk to you all soon!
