  1. awesome mecha battoles, great characters and some amazing stragegy based plots
  2. It's only in some animes that they do this, I never said anything about this representing the entirety of anime, lol. And it's only when it's a main character that it really bugs me and turns me off from a show. I loved Moribito, and that kids' voice was annoying as hell! He he. But I do agree that if it fits the character, it fits the character. My problem is I can't see a female voice fitting a teenaged male character (exception maybe being Black Star in Soul Eater). And as you rightly pointed out, it is anime, so the character is not a real person who hasn't hit puberty yet, or just has a high pitched voice, it's an anime character. To me that's all the more reason to voice male characters 12 and up with male VA's.
  3. I totally get that pre-pubescent boys sound like girls, so I have no problem when it is a really young character, or even a side character that is voiced by a female VA. It's just makes it hard for me to get into a lead male character that is older than 12 (as I originally mentioned) who is voiced by a woman because I find it way too unrealistic. Am I being too nitpicky over this, probably, but I just can't get over it and it ruins the character for me. As for them doing it in both Japenese and English, Hitsugaya is voiced by a female in Japenese, but by a male in English, so I don't think that's an across the board thing. Although I do wonder how they (the powers that be or whoever) decide those things...
  4. Damn, I only watched FMA eng dubeed so I didn't even know that Edward was voiced by a female VA, am really glad I got into the dub first cause that may have stopped me from watching one of the best shows ever. And as you mention One Piece, I actually said no to that show because of the female VA or Luffy, same with Naruto. Just sux cause I it bothers me so much that I miss out on a lot of great shows because of it. But clearly for the most part based on the lack of responses to this I am of the minority on this bothering me, so oh well. c'est la vie I guess
  5. Gotta be golden Boy for me. Just the facial expressions he would make alone made it absolutely hilarious!
  6. Okay, just tried watching Black Butler (eng dubbed, but tried the jap dub too just to hear it), and I couldn't even make it through the first episode. Why? Because they have a female voice actor voicing one of the lead characters who is a male! Now, maybe I am the only one, because I know how many naruto fans there are out there, but seriously, I cannot sit through a show (regardless of language) where a male character over the age of 12 is voiced by a female VA... It's just ridiculous! The point of this thread, however, is to find out if I am the only one who thinks this way. So please, tell me, am I the only one who thinks this way???? And feel free to tell me why it is you agree or disagree with my opinion that teenaged male characters should be voiced by male VA's. Thanks
  7. Kenichi the mightiest disciple and Tenjho Tenge are both pretty good.
  8. Definitely give black lagoon a try, is for sure in my to 10. It's got great action, cool characters and a nice philosphical bent to it that makes it much more than just a shoot'em up style of anime. Plus I think gungrave is pretty awesome too... I would recommend more, but would need to know more in terms of what kind of anime you are into, but you cannot go wrong with black lagoon
  9. eureka 7, gundam seed, rurouni kenshin, code geass (together seasons 1 + 2 = 50 episodes), same for gundam 00 also... that's all i can think of right now. and i would just say the 24-26 episode series' tend to have the best balance of telling a whole story but not overdoing it on filler episodes. just my opion though.
  10. i'll just list some good shows based on what's not on your list already: samurai 7, black lagoon, elemental gelade, ghost hunt, kenichi the mightiest disciple, baccano, romeo x juliet, gankutsuou, the wallflower, ouran high school host club, aquarion. all of these are dubbed, if you want a summary for the shows go check them on ANN or try the dubbed or dual audio index lists on here
  11. My geas is better than yours!

  12. Yo ichigo negro! you gettin my msgs yet son?

  13. First, thank you for referring to it as Japenese dub! All anime is "dubbed", little pet peeve of mine when its the "sub vs dub" argument. That being said, if its dubbed in English (or is being dubbed and will come out soon) Ill almost always go with that over the Japanese, just cause hey, I speak English and its nice to be able to turn my head sometimes and still know whats going on in the show.
  14. gungrave, berserk, elfen lied id say watch all of those if you havent already
  15. i just watched that the other day myself, and overall i thought it was cool, defintiely sick and twisted (depends on the person if thats a good or a bad thing), and had a cool style of animation, not really sure what they call it, but it comes across as sort of a moving graphic novel...i know its called something, but anyways...would say its worth checking out, but must admit that i was kinda pissed me off with the ending.
  16. No guns but Berserk has everything else you're looking for also
  17. Wow, as already noted thats a tall order to fill...if you excuse the "modern time" I may recommend burst angel (but no where near in the same league as black lagoon) or chrono crusade (but that has a lot more supernatural elements to it)...aside from that id say go with madlax as idl12 recommended
