  1. Lost my dog to what we suspect was a Coyote. Bad night last night. :(

Sorry for your loss man, lost one of mine almost a year ago to what we think was an aneurysm (we were gonna have an autopsy done, but it was a long weekend, so we would've had to hold onto the body for a while, and I'm sure you know how that would have gone). I know how you feel man. Just hang in there mate. RIP.

  3. Any cartoons need ripping from Amazon US in 1080p? Shows on Prime can be ripped at no cost, but if they're not on Prime, donations will be needed to cover the cost. Keep in my mind the files are higher quality than iTunes pretty much 100% of the time.

Oh, I see now, Pingu was only released on DVD in the UK it seems. I only ever though to look on North American sites, silly me. Don't worry about it then, thanks anyways Dawn!

Pingu is true, but it's nearly impossible to actually find the DVDs anymore (I've never even seen them for sale, online or in stores), and only Xvid encodes are still floating around.

Avatar just has really shitty DVDs, and the iTunes encodes are crappy too. Just figured it could be worth a shot. As for Shaun the Sheep, I've never seen the Blu-Rays around, or encodes of them, but I'm not too interested in it, so it's not a big deal.

      Okay, here's the list.

Shaun the Sheep (Season 1-4, Championsheeps, The Farmer's Llamas, 1 SD season, rest is HD)

      Pingu (Season 1-5, all SD)

Avatar The Last Airbender (Season 1-3, all SD - only on the chance that the quality is better than the DVDs and iTunes, otherwise pointless)

I also noticed that Timmy Time, Looped and Mister Rogers' Neighborhood were on there, but I don't personally care about them. Just figured that you might be interested in them.

Yeah, it's a rip off. They've got up to Season 20 on Youtube too (which I may end up ripping to compliment whatever they have on Amazon - still beats the expensive DVDs and the old TVRips)

I'm looking through the shows they have right now, I'm making a list of the stuff that could do with a rip (only shows without BluRays etc.), I'll let you know in a bit.

@TheLastOfUs The quality should be better than the TVRips that are floating around. Pretty sure this would be the best quality out there, albeit still SD.

How about The Joy of Painting? Should be good to go into the Live Action section. The show is otherwise only available on Youtube, (maybe) iTunes and DVD, although the DVDs are really expensive. I know the HD stuff on Amazon has great bitrates, but how about the SD stuff? Would it beat DVD in quality? Nonetheless, the DVDs are really overpriced, so this would be a welcome alternative.

@Koby I was under the impression Nyaa was reputable (and didn't know it was basically run by Commie lmao), and that HorribleSubs was always worse than any fansubs could be. I just assumed DDY would be best I suppose (Nyaa's filters had nothing to do with it though, I get my airing stuff from AB). Nonetheless, isn't edited CR still usually better than HS? And what's so bad about DDY in comparison to HS for Re:Zero? Not that I doubt you, just haven't seen any comparisons between the two.

The color system on Nyaa refers only to the quality of the encode and subs. It has nothing to do with the series, only the quality. The blue torrents are simply the release(s) that the Nyaa staff consider to be the best (in terms of encode and sub quality). Any series can have blue torrents. For example, 91 Days doesn't have blue torrents because no real subbing groups have picked it up, only HorribleSubs and some fixed copies of their translation, no real fan translations have shown up. Re:Zero has blue torrents from DameDesuYo as they are the most reputable group working on the series. Even the shittiest anime could get picked up by a legit group and therefore could get blue torrents from that group.

  13. Uh, for anyone caught up on Pokemon, do I need to watch XY to watch XY&Z? I heard the Kalos League fights are really good, so I wanted to binge watch XY&Z to see what all the hype was about.

Oh OK, I would definitely say a higher bitrate on that too then. However, most of the issues you described are present in the source too - the dark lines, the aliasing and the bad deinterlacing are all just in the source, couresty of Viz Media's terrible upscaling job. I mean increasing bitrate isn't going to automatically fix any of that. Banding is a bitrate issue, but even if he increases the bitrate, there'll still be some banding as Kimiko only encodes in 8 bit.

I don't see any compression issues though, for a 576p encode, I would say the size is fine. Just need to clean it up a bit.

Yeah, I would recommend trying to figure out a way to encode 10bit, maybe trying some filtering etc, perhaps try AviDemux if you need a GUI. You'll need to replace the 8bit x264 exe with the 10bit alternative.

  16. Anyone plan to encode and release Bleach BD. I have it on BD boxset but don't feel like ripping it and encode it.

    1. PDoggy77

      PDoggy77

I do agree their filters were sometimes too much, but for upscaled BDs such as their FLCL encode, I haven't been able to find anything better. However, one should keep in mind that FLCL didn't have a very noisy BD to begin with, so they didn't do too much denoising on it iirc. Considering Bleach has been released in a similar manner and quality to FLCL, I'm pretty sure the results would be similar. I like noise and details too, but only for shows where they were actually there to begin with, like YYH. For digitally animated upscales, NP-C's work is quite good, and for FLCL, the best there is.

Yeah, the BDs don't look that great anyways. I mean, of course they're clearer than the DVD's because they're not compressed to fit on a DVD, but the Qtec tier filtering ruins them IMO. Just doesn't look good. I think NPC could do something good with it if they were still around, but alas, they aren't. Their upscaled BD>SD encodes were second to none.

Now, not that I'm going to encode it, but if any of you guys were going to, would you encode the filler arcs, or skip them? There's already enough filler in the important arcs themselves, not sure if there's a point in watching or encoding the complete filler arcs.

I would go with 720*540p for this release, @Mr. Kimiko. For example, look at NPC's work on FLCL - they had a shitty 1080p Bluray and made an excellent 540p encode from it. Still use lossless audio though, if it's there.

I'll look into doing a copy too. I wouldn't bother doing a dual audio release, unless the dub video I find really sucks and I need to sync it to a fansub copy anyways (not BluRay tho, not worth the effort when the dub will probably be out on BluRay soon anyways), at which point I might. Eh. We'll see.
