  1. Worst game buying decision I think I've ever made.

Really?! I recently bought Resident Evil 5: Gold Edition on Steam and I've been glued to it for 100+ hours! I'm really in love with it!

I enjoyed Modern Warfare 2 but didn't like Gears of War... I really loved Resident Evil 4 (got it on PS2, PC and Wii and completed it multiple times on each) and I'll agree the atmosphere is seriously different.

As a survival horror it's a bit of a let-down but I enjoy it as a game regardless.

There might be another topic for games I'm looking forward to. I have a bit to say about all of those, too...

I regret buying Monaco (a strange little indie platformy kinda' thing) because the controls were confusing, the concept was too complex for me to spend more than 30 seconds trying to figure out and the friends I wanted to play it with all decided to give up on it as well. It was a shame because it sounded so interesting at first!

  2. As someone who mainly gets games for free (promotions like IndieGala), at a severely reduced price (I'm looking at you, Steam sales) or in very cheap bundles (Humble Bundle and Square Enix Christmas bundle represent!) I'm not sure I can say I truly regret spending money on games.

I'm quite an optimistic person who manages to find something wonderful or interesting in almost anything I touch!

That having been said there are a few games that popped into my mind whilst reading over the previous nine pages...

First: Brink looked quite exciting and it probably would've been if I'd had other people to play it with. After release there was terrible lag and awful bugs which turned A LOT of people off. This resulted in a severely reduced playerbase and no new interest generated in the game. They fixed the issue within a month and even released some DLC for free but by that point it was too late.

Second: There was a 'three for the price of two' deal on preowned games at a local store. I bought two games I was interested in (Something WarioWare and 42 All-time Classics) and then asked my friend which game she'd like. She picked up this... This thing.

I believe it was just called 'Hotel Manager'. I'm not sure what compelled her to buy it but that was what she asked for.

We got back to her house and sat there playing games on our 3DSs until she looks at me and says "this game is awful".

I laughed loudly and said "what did you expect?!" but being the optimistic and ever-joyful person I am, I decided to try the game out for myself.

It really was just awful! The user interface was ridiculous, nothing was explained and it seemed like I had to wait five real-time minutes for anything to complete. Simply opening the doors of my hotel (I think that's what I managed to do) took 15 minutes and was a terrifying ordeal.

Third: League of Legends. I won't say this single-handedly ruined my life but it tried damn hard. I ended up playing with a few real-life friends which was nice. Except we all turned to complete shut-ins living for our 'First Win of the Day' bonus. We started playing together but the better players soon got competitive and started playing with better people! This left me (not the best in the group) to play with random people and I ended up losing a lot. The hooks were in deep though and I couldn't just give it up. It also managed to pull me away from my (at the time) girlfriend which caused a bit of a problem. I ended up skipping school to sit at home playing League of Legends, raging loudly at anyone showing concern for my wellbeing. My sister asked me if I wanted food one day and I responded with "GO AWAY I'M PLAYING LEAGUE".

Public service announcement: If you know anyone who plays League of Legends for more than eight hours a day, please help them.

  3. I remember back when Origin were giving away Dragon Age: Origins for free! That was a little bit before Dragon Age: Inquisition came out, I think...

Origin are pretty good for free content. On the other hand you have to buy most things at very high prices...!

Still, this isn't a thread about ripping on Origin or my empty wallet.

Free games are the best kind! I remember when Humble Bundle gave away some free games, too...

  4. I watch the anime and then read the manga! Anime is a lot easier to get into and keep up to date on thanks to the easily distinguishable seasons and sites like AniChart.

After watching a few episodes of the newer releases I might feel like picking up the manga...

Other than wait, I wait for recommendations from friends and forums (!!!) on both anime and manga!

So if you think I'm missing out on any good manga or anime (I really haven't read that much manga) drop me a message!

I really, really loved Mushishi if that's a good indicator of my favourites!

  5. I have three main reasons for not wanting to watch anime again, and I usually don't rewatch a series:

Death Note will never be the same as it was the first time. The sense of mystery and suspense were the two things seriously pulling me through the whole show!

After I'd seen the ending I felt huge relief and loss at the same time. That happens to a lot of series where lack of knowledge of the unknown is a very key part of the story.

This can happen in reverse, though; when you realise that all the previous story was leading up to a great revelation it's sometimes nice to go back and see how everything connects.

Another reason is it was so amazing I never want to revisit the memory and alter it. Like keeping something precious in a box so the world can't damage it.

Strangely enough, it tends to be the older anime that this happens to for me. The original Fullmetal Alchemist is a good example, or Lucky Star!

Similarly to the first reason, there are times when I'd love to revisit that nostalgic time of wonder and end up rewatching something from a long time ago to get back to my roots!

The last reason is a little less grand. It's just that I think the anime was really, really bad... An example of this for me would be Maji de Watashi ni Koi Shinasai!

Horrible anime (for me, personally) that had such a wonderful first episode. I really did love the premise in the beginning but it got tiring really quickly for some reason.

Of course I might try it again some day. Maybe when I'm feeling a bit more into harem stuff... I'm not big on harem stuff so that's probably why.

However! If a friend asked me to rewatch a series with them I'd definitely say yes! Always!

  6. Katanagatari! I was absolutely mortified when

    Togame got shot!

It really had me in tears. I wasn't ready! I didn't see it coming at all!

What happened afterwards will forever stay in my mind, too. Such a good anime...

Black Lagoon also made me cry. I think it was episode 16, the one with

'The Vampire Twins', the kids who were sexually and physically abused until they turned out just as twisted as the people abusing them.

Then there's Seikimatsu Occult Gakuin... The ending to that was just... Very tear-inducing for me.

Ahhh! So many anime moments have made me cry, it's not even funny! This list could go on for pages!

WAIT! Let's not forget Tasogare Otome x Amnesia! That was a very emotionally charged anime for me, too!

  7. Another computer science student here! I'm supposed to be doing an industrial placement at the moment but the DBS checks to make sure I'm not a criminal haven't gone through yet.

Such a pain! It looks to be quite fun though, so I'm looking forward to it.

Do you mind if I ask what programming languages you used to learn how to program?
My course used mainly Visual Basic and JavaScript, I think. They switched to C# the year after I enrolled...

  8. Hooray! Someone else who likes Nuclear Throne!
I beat it a few minutes ago, actually. Very fun game!

I have to agree with your template comment. It makes it easy to browse in the early hours of the morning for me...

If I might ask, what was the most recent anime you saw?

  9. Hey there! Spirited Away was one of the first anime things I watched with my family. It's pretty great!

Studio Ghibli (the studio behind Spirited Away) actually started airing an anime series not too long ago.

    Sanzoku no Musume Ronja

It's about a girl who is the daughter of a robber. It sounds quite cute.

I haven't seen it yet so I can't say whether it's good or not but it's worth a try!

  10. I fell in love with Spice & Wolf a long time ago. I saw the tagline 'Merchant meats Spicy Wolf' and laughed until I cried! Ah, the simple days...

So, there you have it! SpicyWolf! It's such a cute name! I have a few Holo avatars ready to upload once I hit the required post limit... One day...

  11. I just finished reading: Spice & Wolf (Volume 6, light novel)
I am currently reading: Spice & Wolf (Volume 7: Side Colors, light novel)
I will next be reading: Spice & Wolf (Volume 8: Town of Strife I, light novel)

Sometimes I wish for a little more variation in my literary diet, but then I remember I always wind up looking at Spice & Wolf again.

I'll have to finish it before I move on to anything else! It's the only way!

  12. Hello! I'm not so new to anime, I remember watching the first Fullmetal Alchemist when it was still airing...

On that note, I'd recommend Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood! It's long (64 episodes) but it's a truly wonderful story!

That's assuming you'd like something with action, anyway.

Katanagatari (12 episodes, 50 minutes each) is also action but in a different way and has a lot more talking.

Could you give examples of other anime you like?

    • How did you find Kametsu?

      • I clicked a link on nyaa.se for some Cross Ange! I haven't seen it yet, though.

What do you think of the place so far?

    • I saw Captain Jack so I'm sure it's friendly and fun!

How active are you planning on being?

    • Probably low to medium activity! I'm also very likely to get into it a lot early on then slowly crawl to a halt and forget about it until three months later, at which point I'll pick up from where I left off and repeat the cycle again and again!

What are your top five anime?

    • SUCH HARD QUESTIONS! Thankfully somebody recently pressured me into picking an absolute favourite so I'll start there...

    1. Katanagatari

    Hanamonogatari

    Black Lagoon

    Danshi Koukousei no Nichijou

    Mushishi

    • Top five video games?

      • These really change more than the weather so I'll just go off what I've been playing recently!

    1. Insurgency ('Realistic' FPS on PC)

Nuclear Throne (Action/Indie Roguelike also on PC)

Warhammer 40,000 Dawn of War: Soulstorm (RTS on PC)

Magicite (Platforming/Adventure Indie Rogelike RPG thing on PC)

Things like Trine, Child of Light, Ori and the Blind Forest, etc (visually appealing sidescrolling stuff)

    • What other hobbies do you have?

      • I like reading light novels! Although I only really have one series I can say I'm reading... It's a good hobby for relaxing and stuff though so I'll definitely pick up more later!

    Make any graphics?

    • Mostly bad icons made from bad low-quality screenshots!

Do you have any questions for us?

    • Absolutely none! The rules and FAQ were more than enough!
