  1. Sasuke's operating on a philosophy that is a bit harder to swallow in the west because it's a bit archaic in our eyes. He's operating off the concept of total familial devotion. Yeah, Itachi wanted something else for him, but at the same time, Itachi made his little brother watch his entire clan die over and over again, then basically shoved him onto the fast-track to insanity in order to craft the tool for his own death. Not to mention that Sasuke has what his brother envisioned for his future, and what he thinks that the rest of his family would want. He believes that they might be just a teensy bit bitter over how they were pretty much distrusted by the higher-ups then moved into one district, then when they begin assembling to try to do something about being mistreated, their negotiations break down (I'd guess that Danzou wanted to test out that new mind-control and wanted more eyes) and they're killed by one of their own. Itachi murders everyone "for the sake of the village" and his backup plan is to keep Sasuke on the path that Itachi chose for him by brainwashing him and stopping him from ever being able to decide what he wanted. Nobody is in the right here. Yeah, Sasuke's gone way off the deep end for the sake of trying to give his family some closure in the afterlife, but keep in mind that Itachi is the farthest thing from innocent here too. He's responsible for most of this, and didn't even bother to take any steps to protect Sasuke from Tobi aside from setting an Amaterasu Trap that he was probably pretty sure wasn't going to work. And once again, planning to brainwash your brother with the Kotoamatsukami so that he's forced to walk the path that you chose for him after violating his mind so many times? Not cool, and definitely not good, as I must remind everyone here determined to stuff Itachi into a pair of leather pants. Keep in mind that Sasuke is the character who had his entire world taken away from him multiple times, and was the victim of MANY, MANY mental assaults, then told half-truths that both corroborated with his memory and what others confirmed to be true. It's no wonder that he went off the deep end. And to the person who said that he has a "someone has to take me home and show me the light" attitude, that's the complete opposite. He's openly renounced that light and gone through a total change from what we saw he was like as a child. He's interesting because we've seen every step of what turned him the way he was, and watched his slide into insanity. His character is well developed and his journey into madness is fairly well documented. Don't get me wrong, though. I don't hate Itachi at all. He's an interesting character in his own right, but a real "good guy", he is not. I did gain a bit more respect for him when he used the Kotoamatsukami on himself to break free instead of stealing Sasuke's will with it, though.
  2. and by "people" he cared about, we mean "Rangiku, then anyone else can just take a number". Were his goals decent enough? Yes. Were his methods particularly savory? No. He's an interesting character with that motivational mix, and one of my favorite overall.
  3. Berserk. They cut things off literally during the climax of the eclipse, cut to the credits, then showed a stinger of Guts leaving Gotoh's house. It left the HUGE plot hole of Guts even surviving in the first place. Thank god for the movies that are coming out.
  4. Going off that, Danzo's suboordinates are all loyal to him, even given his "blood-mist revival" training tactics. My guess is that he was using Kotoamatsukami in order to brainwash his men into following him just like he was implied to have mind-controlled the Daimyo and tried to do to Mifune. Gin's suboordinates liked him a lot, and it was stated that he acutally spent time with them and included them in some of his pranks, as well as his tendency to share the persimmons that he would grow and dry. Neither of them was quite a "good" man, but Gin was truer to himself.
  5. A split timeline doesn't necessarily mean that only ONE had to have happened. Does only one branch of a tree really exist just because the trunk splits into branches?
  6. Personally, I liked 5d's the best. I enjoyed the themes of fighting fate and who has the "right" way to protect the world, as well as the idea of social inequality and after how far one must stop trying to save the world lest they make things worse. ---------- Post added at 01:24 AM ---------- Previous post was at 01:22 AM ---------- there are definitely major rivalries. It's just that the 5d's characters actually develop and their relationships change over time.
  7. What about Bellamy the Hyena? Doflamingo forced him and Sarquiss to fight eachother to the death during the Skypiea arc. The screen cut away at the final blow, but that was definitely NOT in a flashback.
  8. Brotherhood. It was more consistent with its rules. Personally, I hated the way to kill a Homunculus in the first anime, and thought it made no sense when you remember Equivalent Exchange. The Manga/Brotherhood method, which is exhausting their stone until they don't have enough power left to make an energy-mass conversion to heal themselves is more in line with the Alchemy as established.
  9. they didn't replace either of their VA's. Jameison Price just decided to change how he did the voice, and Urahara's always been Michael Lindsay in America. Personally, I really love Michelle Ruff's performance here.
  10. Personally, I really like Byakuya, Kyoraku, and Kenpachi.
  11. I can't agree that L was smarter. He kind of arbitrarily decided that he wanted Light to be Kira, then went in looking for any evidence to prove his theory right. By his own words, he's not out for justice, but rather his own amusement. He doesn't think being wrong is amusing, therefore he has to relentlessly pursue his theory and pretty much shut out other possibilities. That his theory was right is besides the point. ---------- Post added at 01:08 AM ---------- Previous post was at 01:06 AM ---------- Except everything that Mello did, he did for himself. Near's plan with the Sidoh incident was to sit back then swoop in and steal the Death Note after everyone else did all the work. And by the authors' statements, Near cheats. Not to mention his "logic" usually lacking even more than with his predecessor.
  12. I'm torn between Greed Pt. II and Fuhrer President King Bradley. I really liked their dynamic and the question of "what makes a ruler" that drove their interactions.
  13. Kind and caring. Tell that to the rest of his family. And as for Sasuke, he's not operating under our modern morals system. His first and only priority is Familial Devotion, specifically in the form of taking revenge for the dead members. Sure, it goes against Itachi's will, but Sasuke still thinks that it's in line with the rest of his dead family's wishes. And a "caring, kind" brother doesn't show you your family getting killed over and over again in order to try to shape you into a suicide tool. Good intentions or not, Itachi is half of the reason Sasuke's so messed up now. The other half is his overabundance of familial devotion. However, I like the way that both brothers are portrayed and will say that you need both to get anything close to a clear picture of either of them, so I abstain from choosing.
  14. This is a bit of a sticky issue. Ulquiorra's unranked "segunda etapa" is a dark horse contender. Barragan literally could only be defeated by his own power, so he's definitely in the running, but Starrk's Los Lobos seems to give him the edge. Nos. 1 and 2 were to fight, Barragan would probably find out that he can only age so much at one time and be overwhelmed by Starrk's Machine Gun Cero. So personally, I'd say that it comes down to Starrk vs. Ulquiorra.
  15. Except Kubo flat out said that Ichigo and Rukia are close, but it's not love between them. In addition, Ichigo and Orihime have gotten screentime concerning feelings towards eachother, dating back to the pilot chapter. Ichigo's classmates asked if he and Rukia were an item around Vol. 6-7, then the issue was pretty much dropped except for Orihime being afraid that Ichigo liked Rukia instead of her around the Vol 21-23 range.
  16. I really liked the Gen II games, but I think that Gen V does Pokemon better.
  17. I had a Nintendo DS and thought that Final Fantasy III looked interesting and had an awesome minimalist boxart, so I asked for it for my birthday. Loved it and moved on to the rest. Had a bit of exposure before from Kingdom Hearts.
