  1. Representing our Canadians over here...

We used to have LOADS of anime back in the day on TV...Sailor Moon, Dragonball, Monster Rancher, Medabots, Escaflowne...

And I think it peaked when the YTV channel aired an anime block called Bionix (probably the Canadian equivalent to Toonami), which had many shows too like Inuyasha, Death Note, Gundam Seed, Naruto, Bleach...

But sadly now, it's all gone. At least, you guys still have Toonami. There's pretty much zero anime on TV in Canada. Certainly, watching anime on the internet is awesome, but man, it can never replicate that experience of coming home from school and checking out what's on.

  2. Perhaps I've simply watched far too many anime that follow the same generic stuff but off the top of my head...

Tears to Tiara, Legend of the Legendary Heroes, Kurokami, Choujuushin Gravion... Just terrible, generic shows, where nothing of any significance occurs, and I could've done without watching them at all.

  3. Since you mentioned psychological, thriller stuff, you might like:

    Ghost in the Shell

Higurashi no Naku Koro ni (it's sequels not so much)

    Monster

    Gyakkyou Burai Kaiji: Ultimate Survivor

    Gantz

    Ghost Hound

And certainly any of the movies by Satoshi-kon come to mind, like Perfect Blue or Paprika

  4. Judging by your list, you seem to cater towards shounen shows...

As well, you have got a lot of the classics on there like Cowboy Bebop and Yu Yu Hakusho, so I'd say you can't go wrong with these

    Flame of Recca

    Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann

    School Rumble

    Speed Grapher

    Btooom!

    Mirai Nikki

    Death Note

    Jojo's Bizarre Adventure

    Whistle

    Major

    Tetsuwan Birdy Decode

    Escaflowne

    Hellsing

    Oh My Goddess (OVAs)

You listed Yakitate Japan as your favs, so you might like Gintama or the new Shokugeki no Soma(also about food)

Likewise you might like Arslan Senki or Juushin Enbu: Hero Tales (since it's the same author of FMA)

  5. What did one ocean say to the other?

    Nothing, they just waved.

Apparently, everything is made in China, except for babies.

    Those are made in Va-China

I wondered why the baseball was getting bigger,

    then it hit me.

I would tell you a pizza joke, but it's too cheesy.

  6. I've seen a couple of jdramas, some of which I actually really enjoyed.

Shiroi Haru, My Boss My Hero, Rookies, Taisetsu na Koto wa Subete Kimi ga Oshiete Kureta and of course, Densha Otoko were all, pretty entertaining.

I don't really watch many jdramas anymore though, just cause it's hard to find a jdrama with an interesting story. Most are medical or crime scene/detective or steretypical romance dramas, which I find incredibly boring.

Regarding movies, though I thoroughly enjoyed Battle Royale(japanese) and the Man from Nowhere(Korean)

  7. Chrono trigger and Crono Cross (R.I.P. squaresoft)

    Super Mario RPG (R.I.P. squaresoft)

Conker's bad Fur Day and another Donkey Kong Country (R.I.P. old rareware)

    Lunar 3 (R.I.P. Studio Alex)

And not so much priority, but another Crash Bandicoot (from naughty dog) or Spyro the Dragon (from Insomniac) would be awesome.

  8. Soul Eater (Why did I waste my life watching 51 eps of this?)

Serial Experiments (had no clue what was going on)

    Kurokami (terrible show)

    Air

    Green Green

    Please Teacher

    Sword Art Online

    Umineko (terrible, compared to Higurashi)

And obviously Naruto, Bleach and One Piece just because of their massive length.

  9. I highly recommend Azumanga Daioh. It's a comedy/slice of life and it's essentially about the lives of a group of high school girls. There's pretty much nothing objectionable. It's hilarious and I think it's exactly what your looking for.

You could try the old DIC english dub of Sailor Moon. It was originally edited for TV, and it's still pretty good for kids.  Mew Mew Power is another good one.

If it's for boys, you can't go wrong with a lot of the older stuff like Monster Rancher or Fighting Food-ons, though obviously there is fighting, just no blood or gore.

  10. So they don't give a fuck about their fans?

I don't think it's so much as they don't give a f**k, but rather they don't have much of a choice in most cases.

I think everyone else has already said it, but when both the manga and anime of the same series are both ongoing, then the animation company has no choice really, but to continue on regardless. They're given a budget, a certain amount of episodes to work with, and have to craft something within those guidelines.

I feel you though, it's sucks when an anime deviates SEVERELY from the manga. Personally, I'd rather an anime, just go on hiatus or just end off where the manga leaves off, rather than just make up stuff along. Cause once they make up storyline, there isn't really any going back, right? They gotta roll with it....

There is that rare exception with Full Metal Alchemist, where the first season of the anime deviated from the manga half way, but it retained its popularity, long enough for a second season to appear which absolutely followed the manga AND even managed end exactly when the manga finished. But that's like...once in a blue moon...

  11. well, by watching japanese dubbed anime with english subtitles enough, we all learn a couple japanese words here and there, and get used to their pronouciations.

If your talking about the actual animation in general, we learn from anime that 2d animation absolutely trumps 3d in every way, and communities like this as well as the fanbase, prove this. The fact that anime has persisted all this time and continues to be in 2d despite the advances in technology and 3d animation software show how impressive 2d animation is as a form of storytelling.

Personally, I've learned that the internet anime community is absolutely amazing in its depth and scope. The concept of "by fans, for fans" is the most selfless thing I've learned. The fact that so many people take time from their daily lives to translate, edit, sync and subtitle anime for the rest of us to consume to just amazing. Sure, there's a grey line with fansubbing in general, but it doesn't take away from the fabulous work that the internet community does.

  12. -Jumping or falling onto someone and squashing that someone

"Koi to Senkyo to Chocolate", in the 1st or 2nd episode, a random girl falls on the main character

"Love Hina", (in 1st episode, I think), Naru slips on something and falls on top of Keitaro (the main char)

->Honestly this troupe happens so often, just search harem anime and your bound to find countless scenes of this

    -Kicking someone

happens in many instances in "Love Hina" where Naru kicks Keitaro

happens also in "Clannad" when Sunohara is kicked many times

-Getting hit in the head with an inanimate object

In Azumanga Daioh, (ep 2), the two girls with terrible eye hand coordination keep hitting each other with the volleyball in the face

-Getting hit in the head by a person

This occurs many times in the boxing anime "Hajime no Ippo", when the characters land a hit on the head,

but the one I can remember most is episode 40, when Miyata unleashes a massive counter on the challenger right on his face

-Getting a ride on someone's shoulders or back

1st episode of "Flame of Recca", Recca carries Yanagi on his back after she goes unconscious

Also in Ryo-Kyu-bu (ep 3, I think), the main character(Subaru) carries the weak girl(Hinata) on his back

In "Inuyasha", this happens all the time, when Inuyasha carries Kagome on his back

    -Handcuff

Several episodes in "Psycho-pass", but the one I remember most is when Tsunemori handcuffs Makishima after she knocks him unconscious in the head

  13. I agree with everyone here. At this point, does anyone really care?

Seriously, we'll be long underground, and Ash will still be...what, 10 years old, I think?

I honestly wouldn't be surprised if Veronica and the original voice actor crew aren't even interested in voicing the characters again.  It's just the same storyline over and over again.  The 1st season certainly had some heart and a little continuity, but obviously, the producers are just gonna run the show into the ground.

Shouldn't pikachu be like lv. 99 by now, yet why, does it keep losing...lol

  14. Why does anime have a bad wrap in the public eye?

Isn't it like basic human psychology?

In general, the internet community especially trolls, don't like what we like

Then there's the hate for anything that's really popular/overblown (ie. pop culture)

And of course, there's the "band wagoners", who love to hop the bandwagon and join in on the hate or the flame wars, just cause, idk, it gives them a sense of self-satisfaction of joining the winning team. It's the same with the console wars (Nintendo vs Sony vs Microsoft)

In general, it's Japan that's the big one, right? Anime is pretty much born from there, but to my knowledge, in Japanese society, anime is viewed as something for kids, and your seen ss being childish if you still watch anime when you get older.

Then there's the stereotypes, like Otakus and N.E.E.T.'s that don't exactly help the situation either...

  15. "My names is Hans. Drinking has ruined my life. I'm 31 years old"

    -Hans Moleman

"Hey. Hey! Hey! I have asked you nicely not to mangle my merchandise. You leave me no choice but to…ask you nicely again."

    -Apu

(as Homer is opening every candy bar in his store trying to find the lucky ticket)

Homer: Oh, no! Lisa's gone! And nothing will bring her back! (Stroking his chin) Unless...
    Lisa: Dad, I'm not dead!
Homer: Oh, praise God! You're alive! (Stroking his chin again) Unless...

  16. Can't say I disagree with you guys(and girls).

I honestly have no idea what the story is, let alone what's happening on screen most of the time. And I can certainly see why a lot of people dislike the series.

With that said tho, I think it's the little things that many people find enjoyable. As someone said before, it's that blending of two worlds of disney and final fantasy that caters to your nostalgia. While it's kinda ridiculous to see these androgynous anime like characters of final fantasy mixed with the animated characters of disney, it's still amazing to see them all together in one universe, working together towards the antagonist.

And it's not much, but it was one of the few games that made use of the d-pad, and not just a mirror of the analog stick.

  17. Well, If I had to pick a favorite, I'd have to go with Final Fantasy Tactics.

One of the rare games I beat more than once, finding new things every time.

That and it's like the only ps1 game I still physically have.

After that, it'd be a close race between many:

    Final Fantasy 7

    Chrono Cross

Lunar: Silver Star Story Complete (nice to see some Lunar fans up in here)

    Crash Trilogy

    Spyro Trilogy
