  1. Right now, I'm juggling Dynasty Warriors Gundam 3 with Tales of Xillia 2 on my PS3 (determined to plat the first before I really get stuck into the second), Sword Art Online: Hollow Fragment with Hyperdimension Neptunia Re;Birth 1 on my Vita (the translation for the former is so freakin' awful, it actually makes the second arc of the first series look watchable by comparison) and Diablo 3 is the sole game I'm playing on my PS4. Busy busy busy, and the backlog is getting bigger. I got Disgaea 4 on my Vita the other day and I've not even opened it yet...
  2. I've actually bought most of the games I wanted this year, but still to come includes... - Danganronpa 2: Goodbye Despair - Freedom Wars - Tales of Hearts R - Pokemon Omega Ruby/Alpha Sapphire - Dragon Age Inquisition - Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel - Super Smash Bros. for 3DS - Hyrule Warriors - Fairy Fencer F - Lords of the Fallen - TheatRhythm Final Fantasy: Curtain Call - Bayonetta 2
  3. A handheld version of what is easily the greatest RPG of all time? The New Nintendo 3DS just became a day one purchase for me. I don't doubt this will get an overseas release, considering the popularity of the Wii version. It also speaks a lot for the power of the new 3DS - sure, it's no PS Vita, but it's a definite upscale, and it promises some equally exciting prospects for the future. That they call it a remake, and not a port, intrigues me as well. Is this Nintendo misusing the word remake, or are they actually going to add some new content to the game?
  4. I'm watching Psycho Pass at the moment. I've always had a hit-and-miss relationship with cop shows, and this has thus far been in the hit category, right up there with Ghost in the Shell. The animation style is endearing (I love Akani's eyes, it's like she's in a permanent state of lethargy. xD) and it's both intriguing and disturbing. Awful OP, but I suppose you can't have everything.
  5. I'd suggest trying both and seeing which you prefer. I usually watch anime dubbed, but if I can't stand the voice actors they use in the English version (in other words, if Yuri Lowenthal is in it in a prominent role) I'll switch to the subbed version. I think watching anime in your native language makes it more enjoyable, but there are exceptions to the rule...I could never watch Gurren Lagann dubbed; the drama in it was absolutely destroyed. There are plenty of anime to choose from for you to wait for something to come out, though - don't feel pressured/impatient to switch to watching things subbed just because they take a little longer to come out!
  6. The first time I watch an episode I'll watch the OP - some of them are fantastic; especially if they're utterly messed up, like Zan Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei's - but I rarely watch EDs...the songs are never as good, and I'm not all that interested in the credits anyway. I'll open a webpage and listen to the song once and, if I like it, I'll get the full version. Thereafter, I'll close the video once the episode is over and skip the ED.
  7. I download, because my internet connection can be a real pain in the evening and that's when I tend to watch anime. Downloading removes the potential annoyance of buffering videos...although it does mean I have a ton of anime I've downloaded but not watched yet cluttering up my laptop.
  8. At the moment, I'm probably averaging around five hours a day, although I rarely play for longer than an hour at a time. When I was employed I tried to squeeze in a couple of hours a night, and considerably more at weekends, but I don't game anywhere near as much as I used to regardless...it's just my current unemployment that is making the hours I game so high, aha.
  9. FFVII, like The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, Super Mario 64, Chrono Trigger and numerous others I could name, was revolutionary for its time. The important thing to remember here though is that "revolutionary" does not necessarily translate into "the best" or even "good" and nor does it mean that it hasn't been surpassed since. All it means is that it started a trend. Video games have evolved very little over the last few generations - the graphical leap between the PS1 and PS2 was significantly bigger than the leap between the PS2 and PS3, and the leap between the PS3 and PS4 is barely noticeable. With the focus on style over substance that has become the norm for these so-called AAA titles, and a distinct lack of new ideas, it's quite easy to see why people love these "overrated" games of old. But they came out in a totally different market, in a time when flashy graphics (or at least, 3D graphics) were new and exciting, and so many games that have come out after them have attempted to mimic their style...and thereby their success. Pretty much every 3D Zelda game that has followed OOT has been identical to it. Every JRPG since FFVII has been compared to it in some form. Why? Simply because they were the first to do it, and so little has changed since then; the modifications that have been made to the formula these games set out have been superficial at best. Still, putting Kingdom Hearts up there with the likes of these trend-setters is going a little bit too far, I think. KH is a popular series, yes, but it hasn't had anywhere near as much influence on titles that have followed it since. It certainly hasn't set any standards. It just has a very large fanbase.
  10. After playing the HD remix, I'd be inclined to agree with this assessment. The plot is one giant black hole of contradictions, cliches and pointless diversions - even by Square's/Soft's/Enix's usual standards - and not particularly engrossing anyway, the battle system is more than a little underwhelming even for its time and, for a game crawling with fantastic characters, they're surprisingly bland...I mean, where's the singing? The witty one-liners that make you smile whilst you inwardly cringe at how horrific they are? Where is the Disney soul? It should be like a video game version of House of Mouse with added Final Fantasy characters, and instead it's more like the sort of thing an eight-year-old might post on FF.net. ...that said, I came into Kingdom Hearts extremely late - my only contact with the series before the HD remix was the first DS game, which I played for about two hours before putting it down in annoyance and ultimately selling it - so perhaps my perspective is a tad unreliable...after all, games have gotten better since the first game, and whilst I have played a lot worse, I have played a lot better, too. So, rather than say it's a bad game, perhaps it'd be better to say it just hasn't withstood the test of time as well as people like to make out. I'll get 2.5HD when it comes out and see if the second one is any better, and because I've heard a lot of good things about Birth By Sleep (which, as a prequel, might be a better place to start) but...well, I'll not hold my breath.
  11. Alucard from Hellsing. This is the guy who has to allow people to damage him in order to take any damage at all. ...although I suppose Kaname Madoka could also qualify, if you ignore Rebellion. Which at least 80% of the fandom wish they could do, it appears...
  12. My breaks from anime usually entail re-watching old series that I've not seen for a few years, for lack of anything currently being aired that really grabs me. I'm always watching something - or at least, I have been since I was about thirteen - but I frequently take breaks from things, either to wait for shows to finish airing, revisit some old favourites, or because I just don't feel like it and would prefer to spend my anime time reading or something.
  13. I just haven't gotten around to it yet? I dunno, I'm not really in the mood for a comedy anime right now, and I think I'd prefer to watch it once the hype has died down a little bit...overly active fandoms for anime bother me, because if you voice even the slightest criticism you get crucified for heresy. I'd prefer to avoid getting verbally ripped to shreds if I'm not as keen on it as I apparently ought to be.
  14. My list at the moment looks something like this: ESSENTIAL Tales of Xillia 2 Dragon Age: Inquisition Disgaea 4: A Promise Revisited Fairy Fencer F X Hyperdimension Neptunia Idol PP Dynasty Warrior Gundam Reborn Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD Remaster (Vita; I have too much going on with my PS3 right now) Atelier Escha & Logy NON-ESSENTIAL (i.e. stuff I won't buy immediately unless I have some money going spare) Etrian Odyssey Untold Kingdom Hearts 2.5HD Remix Drakengard 3 Conception II (PS Vita version) Danganronpa Danganronpa 2 Borderlands 2 Vita Super Smash Bros. 3DS or Wii U Bayonetta 2 Dynasty Warriors 8: Xtreme Legends complete edition (Vita) The Witch and the Hundred Knight I expect more will pop-up towards the end of the year...hopefully New Atelier Rorona and Hyperdimension Neptunia Re;Birth 1 will get localization annoucements, and Tales of Zestiria might see a winter release if we're lucky...although considering we've already got two (technically three) Tales games this year, I won't hold my breath.
  15. Well, both have suffered tremendously as they've gotten older. The Resident Evil series has ceased to be a survival horror series and instead focused on pathetically predictable jump scares and sub-par action-style gameplay, and the Silent Hill series has adopted Resi's former curse of gimmicky controls and plodding, often tedious narrative. Neither have produced a proper instalment in their respective franchise since the PS2 generation, and with this focus on style over substance that is plaguing the industry, that doesn't look like it's going to change anytime soon. Which is a shame, because both were fantastic series back in the day. That said, between the two, I'd go for Silent Hill, if only because the earlier games scared me significantly more than Resi did. The original Silent Hill still gets me from time to time. Resi 4 was a good game, but it just wasn't Resi.
