  1. Hi! I used to be a pretty active member of Kametsu a few years back, was a staff member at one point too! Unfortunately, I've had a busy couple of years because of college and university, as well as some life issues so I've been MIA for a while. It's nice to see Kametsu thriving and in a healthy state, and I look forward to seeing everyone on the forums! P.S: If any of my old buddies see this, say hi! Of course new buddies are also welcome to say hi xD
  2. ‘The new Hunger Games!’ they said. ‘The modern Battle Royale!’ they said. ‘If you liked Sword Art Online, you’ll love this!’ Etcetera, etcetera. Being a huge fan of the aforementioned media, you can imagine my excitement when I first came across Btooom!. Was my excitement justified? It had a significant amount of hype, normal people being dropped onto a mysterious island with a bag of bombs and told to fight for survival? I was pumped! Ultimately, I was let down. Let me stress, Btooom! isn’t a bad show, it's decent, in fact. However, with all the hype, I just expected a much better anime than the one we got. Let’s break it down; The plot of Btooom! can be summed up pretty simply. Our protagonist, Ryo Sakamoto, wakes up on a mysterious island with a huge hole in his memory. After being attacked by a man armed with bombs, in a manner that is very similar to the online game Btooom!, he quickly realises he is in a real life version of the game that he is so proficient at. After that, we follow his life on the island, seeing if he can use his vast online skills when faced by the real situation. Like I said, the plot isn’t all that complicated, but there is huge potential in it. Potential that, in my opinion, is wasted. This series only has 12 episodes and it’s a classic case of an anime having to rush it’s pacing in order to cover enough of the manga. 12 more episodes and this show would’ve been a lot better. Pacing is the major issue, undoubtedly. Too slow at the beginning, Ryo took too long to accept his situation, and too fast towards the end. Another major theme of the plot was the idea that ‘people are awful’. It began to ask us questions about the true nature of humans, especially with the idea that each person on the island was sent there by a person that they’d hurt. This was undoubtedly one of the best aspects of the show, I loved it! But too much of a good thing and it gets boring and guess what happened! (it got boring) The character’s really drive this anime, as opposed to the basic plot. They’re varied and interesting, which makes it a shame that only Sakamoto and Himiko, the main female character, experience real development. The backstories are interesting in the main and the battles and subsequent clashes of values are the high points of Btooom!. Again, the show disappoints as the various antagonists and side characters are dispatched quickly and we are treated to more scenes of Himiko and Sakamoto awkwardly interacting. It’s no Katniss and Peeta that’s for sure. The backgrounds and character designs are nicely done. The art is solid, with the island’s features well animated and each character standing out. Truthfully, I liked the flashback scenes of Japan, nice animating there! The sound too, I have no major complaints. Opening is a bit generic but it fits and May’n singing the ED! Plus points! Unfortunately, like the rest of the show both things didn’t really stand out from the crowd and are good as opposed to groundbreaking. Mindless action is the best way to describe the events of the show, which is a real shame considering the potential the plot has. As someone who likes to be challenged or at least surprised by my action anime, Btooom! is a disappointment. If you have some spare time and want to watch something light and straightforward, this is for you. If you want to watch something fresh, unique and gripping, there are plenty of better shows out there. Maybe my expectations were too high but this show can be best summed up in one word. Boring. Story 5/10Characters 6/10Art 8/10 Sound 7/10 ATTACK Rating: ** ½ (Boring)
  3. Hmm, I was stuck between Haikyuu and No Game no Life but since Haikyuu isn't an option, I'll go with NGNL
  4. nowadays, amongst teenagers, one phrase comes to mind. Non- anime watchers have used it when mocking me....... Tentacle hentai shit.

I wish I was younger, but it's still 2013 etc.

Unless you meant if we lived in an earlier time period (1970's etc?)

  6. Hey, just wondering if we have any fans of Patrick Rothfuss around? I recently finished both books and it's honestly one of the most beautiful things I've ever read. Would love to chat about it with someone!
  7. Recently watched it myself, loved it! Rated the movie an 8/9, but it reminded me of how great the series was, so I had to bump it up to a 10 xD. It did feel like the true end of Steins Gate, and I'm actually content to leave it there. Would be very skeptical of any attempts to 'cash-in' on the series.
  8. No, I'm sorry. This isn't dead but I honestly can't see myself writing anymore for a while. I know this had quite a few readers and I'm genuinely sorry. I hope to post more but I don't wanna set a date for the next chapter right now. Let's just blame laziness, university, stress and life for now haha.
  9. This disappointed me in all honesty. It promised a lot but didn't really deliver. The last episode was underwhelming. Still a decent series though.
  10. I thought the ending was perfect tbh! Don't think we'll get a second season for a few years yet. Apparently there's not enough manga content???
  11. Getting my exam results tomorrow, gonna find out iif I made it to University :(

  13. So in a bid to get new content in the anime section, I've decided to post a series of 'blogs'. This'll be my first one and I'll also be posting reviews of other years, as well as articles about the industry itself. I'll produce a list of categories and give 'awards' to a show based on those categories. Hopefully, I'll post the 2011 review tomorrow, with an article outlining my dismay at the lack of Zombie themed anime to be posted in a few days. With that being said, the presentation will be both simple and sparse. Anyway, let's get started! Note: I'll admit that whilst I watched a decent amount of anime that aired in 2012, I could've definitely watched more. If I miss any of your favourites, post a comment and I'll definitely check it out! Oh and any recommendations for more categories will be accepted as I'm only going with basics for now! 1) Best Character Category is pretty obvious, but I'm splitting it into male and female. Male: Archer, Fate Zero- I wont reveal his actual identity, but Archer is one of my all time favorite characters. He's arrogant, he's a jerk, he thinks he's better than everyone but I loved it. The best way to describe him? BAD ASS! He in my mind is a true King, he completely thinks he's above everyone but he's also immensely powerful and very wise, especially shown by the effect he has on the other characters. In a show that prides itself on being both an action and a talking series, Archer is the true epitome of that ideal. Female: Inaba Himeko, Kokoro Connect- This may be a bit of a surprising pick, but I loved Inaba. She gets an award purely because of her brilliant development throughout the series. She's intelligent, cunning and strong willed. Sounds cliched but she's actually the most interesting character in the show. No spoilers, I must resist. 2) Best Opening- Psycho Pass Op 1 Abnormalize- Ling Tosite Sigure For this, I kind of have to apologise. Truth be told I've seen so many generic, dramatic J-pop tracks, that I honestly struggled to select a best OP. Luckily, I remembered this gem. It's different to the typical opening but to me it sounded epic! Plus, it perfectly encapsulated the mood and atmosphere of the anime, so I think it's fully deserved! Psycho Pass OP1- Abnormalize by Ling Tosite Sigure >http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uG8Pvu-Liwo 3) Most Disappointing Series Btooom! Now this might be a bit controversial as I gather this show has a quite a few fans. It's premise promised a lot and I heard many good things about it. However, to be frank, it was boring. Boring, boring, boring. It wasn't terrible, but it was so predictable. It was in essence a Battle Royale/Hunger games like show, but it tried to ask questions about morality and human nature and the like and it honestly seemed a bit silly. That being said the main character and Himiko were both good and developed well. In short, could've been great, but was just alright. 4) Most Surprisingly Great Show Kuroko no Basket I saw this show because I was bored and it looked pretty. I never ever expected it to be as great as it was. I knew it was popular but I'm not much of a basketball fan and I automatically assumed this would be a typical shounen. Now, I was kind of right but I was stunned by how epic it was. Truly, it was an amazing anime, I loved the characters, the art, the story, pretty much everything! So it went from a random pick, to placing in my top 20. Not bad at all! FINAL CATEGORY- ANIME OF THE YEAR So I've decided to do a top 5 anime of 2012 list, the likes of Hyouka and Bakuman just missed the cut. Without further ado, let's check them out... 5) Sword Art Online- I loved it tbh. I know it's got a lot of hate but I truly thought it had a great setting, a good story and good characters. I'm actually mystified as to why it's hated so much. 4) Kokoro Connect- This was a great story. Sure it was set in a clubroom, with a school club full of people who don't really fit in society (in other words cliched), but it was a refreshing and unique take which I really enjoyed. Plus, in terms of character development, it's very impressive. 3) Kuroko no Basket- Like I said before, an amazing and surprisingly good series. The whole Generation of Miracles thing is great, and I'm genuinely excited for more. 2) Fate Zero- This shouldn't be a surprise to anyone. Hugely popular due to its great art, mostly great characters, intriguing characters and, most importantly, it's depiction of famous heroes from the past. It's vastly superior to Fate Stay Night and I especially loved the dialogue in the series. 1) Kingdom- Huh? Some of you may be wondering what this show is and if that's the case then I'm afraid you're missing out on one of the greatest shows I've ever seen. It covers the Warring States period in China and so there are a lot of great battles and, more importantly, a lot of political and tactical battles, factors that really appeal to me. The only real fault is the poor use of CGI earlier on in the series but it's not a major fault, and they fix it as the series progresses. Highly recommended! Well that's the end of my first post, any shows, characters, songs I've missed then please leave a comment and we can DISCUSS! Also, please keep in my mind what I said before, I could've watched more anime last year. 2011 will be posted next time!
  14. I like RDJ, but I can see why some people wouldn't! Ah man, I'll just have to wait Yeah, I've heard it's very good, so I may as well check it out. I just need to find some free time first!
  15. Okay so I've recently become very interested in visual novels, they're pretty awesome! Only played (read??) a couple and so I'm looking for recommendations for some I should check out. As you can tell from the title, I'm in the sort of mood where I quite like slice of life/school/romantic sort of things, so a VN within these categories would be appreciated! A full english translation is another requirement and please keep in my mind that I am flat BROKE! Thanks for taking the time to deal with my request! School based ones I've tried: Don't take it personally babe, it just ain't your story (very much enjoyed, ending was a bit abrupt and dissatisfying though!) Red Shift (didnt have the patience to finish) Katawa Shoujo (amazing!) Couple of final points. I'd prefer no fantasy or science fiction and adult content absolutely does not bother me!
  16. Really wanna have a detailed/smart anime debate/discussion with someone.

  17. I must admit I lost a bit of interest in this after the 'humanity's first victory' bit. Dare I say it, I didn't find it as interesting. However, the whole Levy and Recon squad arc has definitely reawakened my interest in it! Very excited by the female titan too.
  18. I so agree! Ugh, I can't wait either. SO FAR AWAAAAY. We have to be patient! :'( does anyone know a rough air date or is it just 'sometime in 2014'? Oh and personally I loved the Robert Downey Jr films too. The more Sherlock related media the better! With that being said, I still haven't seen Elementary. Any good?
  19. After seeing the teaser I cannot wait for 2014!! Steve Moffat is much better suited to Sherlock than Doctor Who so I'm very excited!
  20. Next episode will be released 14th September in Japanese theaters. (Im pretty sure its the 14th haha)
  21. Glad to see you back dude. Ramen Fighter Miki sounds very interesting. May just check it out!
  22. Currently fasting due to it being Ramadan. I'm not gonna be online much for the next month

  23. Very powerful. Made me remember a lot of things. Well done dude.
  24. Actually all but Bebop are from 6 years ago or less. Yes haha, I had a meltdown, apologies. >.<
  25. Hmm I'm thinking modern classics as in the past 5-10 years but they are definitely great shows. I rated them all 10 I think haha
