Arise, Pyrophoric Cult, and New Movie all fit in that order as part of the Arise series; which is set as somewhat a prequel to the SAC series as it details how Section 9 came to be.

Then you've got Stand Alone Complex, SAC 2nd Gig, and Solid State Society in that order.

The Individual Eleven and Laughing Man movies are just recaps of the best arcs in the SAC series.

The original 1995 movie and it's sequel GitS 2: Innocence go together in their own sort of 'movie universe'. Definitely worth watching though...

Even though Arise is set first in the timeline in several ways... I'd actually recommend you watch the 1995 movie and it's sequel as a starting point to the franchise. Then watch the SAC series, then Arise last. This is the production order, and despite the chronological order, each entity is kind of really it's own thing, and as such Arise really kind of expects you to have knowledge of the series or the characters that you'd likely be missing out on if you tried watching it first.

    Thanks

Ghost in the Shell (GitS) "series" have multiple alternative settings, that may include details and events that go against each other, so some of content can be viewed separately.

The simplest option would be to watch in order they where released:

    • Ghost in the Shell (1995) (or 2008)
    • Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex (or Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex - The Laughing Man)
    • Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex 2nd GIG (or Ghost in the Shell: S.A.C. 2nd GIG - Individual Eleven)
    • Ghost in the Shell 2: Innocence
    • Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex: Solid State Society
    • Ghost in the Shell Arise: Alternative Architecture (updated version of Ghost in the Shell: Arise)
    • Ghost in the Shell: The Movie (2015)

    Chronological order (to my knowledge):

    • Ghost in the Shell Arise: Alternative Architecture (updated version of Ghost in the Shell: Arise)
    • Ghost in the Shell: The Movie (2015) (I have not watched this one, so I don't know where it fits in, but should be after Arise)
    • Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex: Solid State Society
    • Ghost in the Shell 2: Innocence

    Chronologically by setting:

    • Setting 1
    • Ghost in the Shell (1995) (or 2008)
    • Ghost in the Shell 2: Innocence (this fits pretty well in multiple settings, but is considered continuation of first movie)

    • Setting 2
    • Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex (or Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex - The Laughing Man)
    • Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex 2nd GIG (or Ghost in the Shell: S.A.C. 2nd GIG - Individual Eleven)
    • Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex: Solid State Society

    • Setting 3
    • Ghost in the Shell Arise: Alternative Architecture (updated version of Ghost in the Shell: Arise)
    • Ghost in the Shell: The Movie (2015)

There is also Ghost in the Shell Arise Pyrophoric Cult, but I think it should be part of Alternative Architecture. I have only watched first episode of Arise, so I don't know how well it fits in timeline mentioned, but it is intended as a prequel.

How many episodes does Ghost in the Shell Arise: Alternative Architecture have? When I looked for bd version(by commie) it only showed 9,10 episodes. What of the rest?

  5. Hello! My name is indiangamer007, and I'm fairly new to forums and anime. I just began looking for English dubs. Google sent me this way so I thought I'd check it out.
