  1. My Favourite off the top of my head are Bakemonogatari and Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuutsu (S1) OSTS, both composed by Kousaki Satoru ( yay! ლ(^◡^ლ) ).

    Angel beats OST was alright.

I heard Chihayafuru OST was good too, but i haven't watched the anime or heard the OST yet.

  2. Hmm, a variety of reasons.

First of all, scary animes really ain't my thing. I'm in one IRC # where they like that kinda stuff, they said "go watch gosick" so I did, they're also suggesting Mirai Nikki, which I downloaded but haven't watched.

Another one is raw-sources. At the time, I couldn't find 720p that were averaging 325mb for the video track only. So next best, I tried to find 1080p sources which were around 1GB with no OC. I found Kuro-raws, which i reencoded a few eps down to 350mb with audio, and then he gave up releasing gosick, and I did so, too. Didn't find any sensible filesizes shortly after that.

When I reencode anime, i want to be completely consistent about my sources.

  3. I use DVDshrink because it allows you to losslessly trim blank/unneeded sections on a DVD.

I also use DVDDEcryptor, easy operation, with advanced features. Its also good for batch demuxing by chapter (useful for Music DVDs)

  4. A few things,

neroAAC was good a few years ago. Now, q(t)AAC is better.

EAC3TO can convert DTSHD & THD to FLAC correctly assuming you have FFDSHOWA & ARCSOFT DTS DECODER installed.

    About hardware encoders,

On the NVIdia side, they usually can't stand up to the quality produced by good software encoders, but if you use software decoding of H264 or w/e, should be fine

ATI side, there might be a OPENCL based H264 encoder, but haven't done many tests on it, iirc.

    And I use MeGUI.

  6. "VLC still doesn't render in HD I think as well. I believe they're still downscaling and upscaling."

    What? I played a 10bit 1080p rip fine.

About BD playback: what they probably mean is support for BD menus.

The 16bframes & center channel 3dB too loud bug was also fixed between 1.1 and 2.0

Also, although WMP is my primary player, I like to have VLC & Mplayer for testing purposes.

Also, VLC is great for playing partially downloaded files as they are downloading. WMP plays up to the last filesize it was opened with, VLC has continuous buffering.
