I couldn't find any topic like this...If there is then well...whatever... I'm a vocalist on a Punk Rock garage band called Unprettier. Most of my life I was into Hip-Hop. Most Portuguese teenagers and children are. We grow up that way. That's all I listened to, sometimes even badmouthing Heavy Metal/Death Metal/Black Metal (so on and so forth) bands for the excessive roaring. I met a skater girl who's sleeping lullabies included Dimu Borgir and Children of Bodom. Eventually me and her became boyfriend and girlfriend and she basically changed my life, making me have a U turn ragarding music. After a while I started to let my hair grow down to have it em style and started to wear mainly black and white clothing, made a lip piercing and started painting my nails black and wearing my eyeliner. Eventually I met up a guy through a friend, and by telling him I wanted to be in a band he asked me to go with him to try out my skills. I couldn't play anything, but my voice suited punk rock, and the Hip-Hop culture I had made it complete. I stayed, and still am today. When we go to places where the local bands meet, people usualy know me from either the street or any local school and call me "Little Piece of Rap-Sh*t" simply because I used to be on a totally different wave. Thing is, Portugal is a very small country, and rock bands don't usually make it, so the competition gets pretty rough between garage bands....But descrimination? Take the 50Cent getting bottled at Reading. (ok...I admit...that was sweet) It was just wrong. What's your opinion on the matter? You think someone who has litened to Hip-Hop all their life does not deserve to be in a Rock band? Because that's the way some particular people make me feel sometimes.
