  1. I only read the first few manga books, but it seemed an awful lot like Chas;Head. The main characters are pretty similar, but the plot is a bit strange(though pretty good) and may loose you.
  2. I also can't wrap my head around the supernatural. I have always been more scientifically minded, and unless hard evidence can be presented I don't see my views changing. If you can tell me the reason why humans can figure out the weather conditions on Neptune, yet are mind-boggled on doors slamming shut I would love to know.
  3. If you don't mind subs check out Tiger and Bunny. Its a fun show with a good cast and a lot of action. You might also enjoy Black Cat. It has a really pretty art style, decent cast and a pretty compelling plot.
  4. As much as possible, usually between 5-9 hours. Of course there is the new game rule, which ups the hours to as many as possible in a day. I stop to go to the bathroom but that is about it.
  5. I read Princess Knight when I was a kid. I dunno if you have already read it before, but I think you would like it. Osamu Tezuka Made it as well, and the art style is almost identical... so no worries there.
  6. The concept of a hivemind is quite a bit different from simply being able to read anyone's thoughts... The main trait is that there is only one collective will. Everyone would have a certain task, however long term goals would all be the same. The theory behind that is whenever information is shared at that extent, instead of seen ourselves as one person, we see ourselves as a single entity. You really wouldn't have to worry about thinking nasty thoughts or your friends grossing you out because unless every single person in the world wants to do it (including you) it won't happen. The biggest problem I see is that you lose free will. It would be great to be able to access all the information from every human, but is it worth it if it means you can't think for yourself? I have no intention of living my life as a pathetic drone, even if it would be for the greater good of humanity. Our race may benefit, but in the end, free will and the ability to do whatever we put our minds to is what really makes us human at all.
  7. Reign: The Conqueror had a few similarities to Heroic Age, such as a futuristic twist on ancient stories. This anime was dubbed and released on adult swim a few years ago, so that might make you happy. The only thing that is a bit off putting is the bizarre art style and the ridiculous amount of gore from time to time. Alexander the Great is the main character, and the plot follows history to an extent, so it is interesting enough.
  8. I think it works, but it is also far too random. Humans make mistakes, and even if the smartest, strongest person in the world is not immune to this factor. On top of that, is it really fair to the weak to be doomed to die? Certainly a sick baby has just as much of a right to live as a healthy one... it didn't chose to be feeble. People can mention how better genes would be passed down this way, but one of the greatest attributes of people is how different we are from one another.
  9. Money is certainly not the only thing a person should look for in a significant other. I am a poor college student, so if everyone went by your mothers rule I would be out of luck for the next four years. That being said, if the person has no money, you can probably assume he doesn't have a job, and people usually don't have jobs for a reason. Money can also be a sign that the significant other has a few traits, and you may want these. I assume most people want stability, someone who could take care of them if necessary, and someone that they won't need to take care of themselves. If those factors are more important to you than other major factors like personality, attractiveness, and similar interests than buy all means try to to find a sugar daddy/mommy. People are allowed to be with whoever they want, and I think some girls just wont be happy unless they have material things. Those women can either get them through hard work, or attain them through people who are willing to give anything for a girl. Honestly this seems like a fair trade to me, since both parties get exactly what they want.
  10. If one civilization falls, another will surely take its place. The only possible outcome that could prevent this is if population drops to almost nothing. If that is the case, the environmental factors are the next thing to look at. depending on the shape of the world, people like me would either go looting, then live off the remains of the old world, or we would go into hunter gatherer mode and start over from scratch.
  11. You could always go back to Gundam Wing. The art isn't as good, but the story and characters are just as fantastic as ever.
  12. I agree with a lot of the demands, but my opinion is not that of the majority. "We are the 99%" refers to the split of money, Half is the top 1% of the population and the other half is the other 99%. I gotta say it is pretty scary when one person has that much money, however is it really fair to allow the government to tax a giant chunk of it away? I believe there should be some kinda policy though... perhaps make them invest their money so that is isn't just sitting in an empty pool, waiting to be dived into. I don't know if it is fair to force them to pay for free bus passes and tuition for kids that may or may not just drop out. Slashing the military budget is a fantastic idea in my opinion... but the government has done a good job of instilling fear in the nation, so it seems like a lot of people want it to feel safe.
  13. I can't see why a judge would do something like this...These guys are at the pinnacle of the justice system, and should therefore know the law. EDIT: after watching the video, I am a little bit skeptical about calling this abuse. Physical violence used for punishment on children isn't what I want to see... but some people swear by it. From what I saw, there are no significant injuries, and I am sure illegal downloading is a major offense when you are a judge.
  14. There are a lot of aspects to look at... Premeditated murder is just wrong in my opinion, but if the person is insane (which I think quite a few murderers are) death may not be the answer. The same may go for those who are still young. It is a scientific fact that their brains do not function at full capacity until far into adulthood, and though most kids don't murder people, almost all of them fail to see the repercussions of there actions. Finally there is involuntary manslaughter, such as when you are mentally impaired by drugs or just plain suck at driving. I don't care to go even more in-depth into this since I am sure you all get my point. If I were leader, these criminals, as well as many others would be put to work in some tough, manual labor industry. Other than pedophiles and the criminally insane, the people could work until their debt to society is paid off... this may be thirty years or just a couple depending on the crime, however this could be a very marketable industry since nothing really beats slave labor in terms of payroll. If they don't work, they starve to death, since they are working for their room and board too. I am pretty sure if people are hungry enough, they will do anything. This kind of system may be a bit cruel, but it isn't quite as lethal, and it has a possibility of reform since people probably wouldn't want to return to slavery. The way I would attain peace is having as many nukes as possible, a decent self defense force, absolutely no military navy or foreign bases, and a strict isolationist and neutral policy for when other nations are in a conflict. I would make a very difficult to forge ID system and make doing anything in this country rely on showing it. I would also encourage people with every possible means to be against foreigners in the country, regardless of origin or race. People who are convicted of being an alien are put into slavery until they can pay for the boat to deport them. Citizens are allowed to leave temporarily, but if they are gone for more than a year, their citizenship is revoked. This should discourage any other nation from getting involved too much with us, as well as stop us from making problems with other nations. I would even consider a wall if I was surrounded by other countries. We will also refuse amnesty, and export criminals even if they are citizens. There will be a way to become a citizen in my kingdom, but it will be so difficult that it makes the US system look easy. I do not want to take away peoples rights for public safety however. Freedom of speech is granted, as well as the right to bear arms, however, the military and the police are interchangeable in my kingdom, so law breakers are going to be fighting trained, professional soldiers... not some fat jerk with a complex and no education. I will not use surveillance systems on my people, and I will try to show that I trust my own nation to do what is right. I would let them see the world around them through unrestricted internet access, as well as show all of my own policies. A transparent government may be frightening to a democracy, but in a kingdom, people will just know what I am doing. They may disagree with it, but it will not stop them from happening. The benefit is that people may gain a sense of trust in knowing what I am trying to accomplish.
  15. A 70 year old man can't match the endurance and strength of the people in there late twenties. I think he could probably still take out some untrained youths if they gave him problems, but I don't think you give these UFC fighters enough credit. They are not at the pinnacle of their profession like Bruce Lee was, but they are still tough.
  16. I love Azumanga Daioh, but the dubbed version is just terrible. i~i My recommendation would be School Rumble or Lucky Star since the dubs don't suck for them. I think Lucky Star is hit or miss though, so if you don't like it in the first three episodes just drop it.

    Gay Rights?

Holy Matrimony is just a way to get married and is not the only way. There should definitely be a way that Gay Marriage could exist without going through a church, And the states that allow it do just that. The issue seems to be more of a majority rule problem. Most people are christian, most Christians frown upon gay marriage, so when it is put up to a vote they shoot it down. Religion is notorious for butting into other peoples personal life and casting judgement upon them, and that is precisely what has happened. The thing that makes it tricky for me is that they honestly believe that they are protecting people and doing what is right. My guess is from their perspective, they are doing people a service. saving people from damnation to them is like one of us stopping a kid who doesn't know any better from chasing a ball into the street.
  18. Scrapped Princess might be up your alley, since it has a wonderful story and is somewhat similar to FMA. If you want something lighter, maybe you can watch The Cat Returns. it is a fantastic and creative film, and is pretty inspiring.
  19. I suppose you have to look at the individual aspects of the show in order to pick a good one. Tiger and Bunny is similar due to the main character and how he interacts with the other people. Its also an action based show with little romance. Bleach has the depth in the cast like Naruto, as well as the length. The characters also follow the constant improvement > fight tougher enemies theme. It also mixes in the random humor that some may find corney. If you want a slight stepping stone, I would check out Full Metal Alchemist or its remake Brotherhood. The story plays a much bigger role in this, but in general the wide cast/action/comedy/no romance theme is still present. Of course this anime can be kinda depressing so be warned! n_n;;

    Gay Rights?

I am against a lot of things, such as government interfering with religion. I want equal rights between people, and until the gay community gets equal treatment by the government (taxes, medical decision making, property after death, adoption... ect) I won't be happy, but I dislike the thought of the government forcing churches to wed people. Marrage as a definition doesn't matter to me, but I can understand that some people of various faiths believe it is between a man and woman. I am not religious, but I am a supporter of peoples rights, including those who believe in the bible. I don't see why it needs to be "marriage" if the two people have equal rights. Civil Union isn't the prettiest sounding title, but so long as it grants gay couples the appropriate rights, I can settle. The bottom line is that even though religions may be flawed, they are a more important right than a title.
  21. You have probably seen it, but I figured I might as well mention Whisper Of The Heart. Its a Studio Ghibli film so you probably know what to expect, and if it is for you.
  22. Every Halloween I watch the Cowboy Bebop movie, but that's just me. n_n;; Paprika is a pretty creepy movie, but its not really "Paranormal" but if being creeped out sounds good to you, the only thing better is Evangeleon. Hellsing works as a good monster/action/gore anime. Higurashi no Naku Koro series is pretty much the best Horror anime I have seen. Its got plenty of suprises, and you might have a few nightmares... but if you really feel brave go for it. Happy Halloween!
  23. Gungrave is my typical recommendation. Its mostly action based, but the characters are awesome and the plot is even better. As for movies I suggest The Cat Returns. This movie is pretty funny, yet awesome in the strangest ways. I don't think anyone could dislike this film, unless they have no imagination at all. I would recommend Lupin the 3rd for a good comedy.
  24. I am an Atheist. I wouldn't say it is by choice, more like out of necessity. Despite all the bad that has come from religious differences, I still think having faith is pretty nice. Unfortunately for me I just can't shake the possibility that there is no God or gods, and that makes me a non-believer. Most of the religions I know of require that you actually believe wholeheartedly that they are not full of bullshit, and I just can't bring myself up to that point of delusion. I will admit that there may be a god... but unless he/she gives me some concrete, undeniable evidence, I am always gonna have a part of me that says "you just don't exist." Finally, if he/she does exist, I find him unworthy of praise, since so many people suffered when he could have stepped in. I would really hate to burn for eternity, or whatever other sadistic measures this "loving" god might employ upon me, but I would hate to beg for forgiveness from an entity that sat by and watched as the people who looked up to him/her suffered and died.
  25. I always liked good ol' Tenchi Muyo, and if you haven't seen it you can kill a lot of time by watching this expansive series. If you like action mixed in, I recommend Vandread. This one is pretty funny and has a good story. To top it off the action gets intense all of the sudden at times. Finally, because rule breaking is fun... I recommend Maria Holic. The main protagonist is a girl and its only subbed as far as I know... but I think you would really enjoy this kind of anime. The main character functions as the protagonist of a harem anime because she is a lesbian at an all girls catholic school. needless to say it is a pretty funny show. I won't try too hard to pitch it though since it is against the two preferences you had. d:
