  1. I used chrome for a while until they removed the side tabs feature. Now I mainly use firefox with the tree style tabs add on. Tabs are so much easier to read and organize on the side of the screen insisted of on top. Plus, moving them to the side frees up more vertical space for webpages to occupy.

  2. I just bought myself some new headphones, audio-technica ATH-M50, as a combination Christmas/graduation present. My family stopped regularly buying gifts for each other back when I was around 15 years old. At the time, we would each buy something for ourselves that way we were sure to get what we wanted but now we rarely even do that because we can't afford it.

  3. Sorry this is so long but I narrowed it down to 12 (in no particular order) from the list of my 50 favorite movies.

    Fight Club

    Fifth Element

    Apocalypse Now

    The Matrix (trilogy)

    There Will be Blood

    Brazil

    American Psycho

Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas

    Donnie Darko

    They Live

    Kill Bill

    Charlie and the Chocolate factory

  4. The first manga I started reading was Yotsuba but I still haven't finished it. The first manga that I completed was Onani Master Kurosawa. I know, just given the name it sounds like a hentai but it actually has a complex and emotional story that is kind of similar to Toradora or Welcome to the NHK. I read the entire thing in one day and I would highly recommend it.

  5. So you're only trying to play your anime on a game console because your PC is too slow to handle the HD playback? That is kind of an iffy plan because any PC that can't even play the video will take forever to re-encode it. If I were in that situation the first thing I would do is see if I could increase the clockspeed of your cpu. Whether this is even possible depends on what hardware you have and what settings are available in your bios.

On second thought, if your PC is from 2005 you probably either have a Pentium 4 or if you're lucky, a socket 939 AMD. Even with overclocking, most of these probably can't play HD mkv's but I'm not really sure because I haven't tried this. If you're really desperate you could look around for an old processor that was top of the line when released but cheap now and is compatible with your motherboard.

Sorry if I got a little off topic but if you just don't have enough processing power different software and codecs can only help so much. It sounds like the most powerful thing you own is a PS3, its just a shame that it doesn't fully support mkv.

[edit] This only applies if your files can't be remuxed to something that a PS3 can play. If so, that might be your best option.

  6. As I understand it, the two main things that can reduce the lifespan of spinning drives besides random mechanical or electrical failures are physical shock and thermal cycling. If your external is on your desk try not to bump into it or shake the desk while it is running. Heat is usually less of an issue unless the drive is getting up around 140F. External drives are almost exactly the same as internal drives so they are no more or less likely to fail from being left on all the time. I have a 160Gb internal drive that has been running fine 24x7 for almost seven years now but I have also had several newer drives fail.

All hard drives do fail eventually so make sure you have backups of your important data.
