Yeah, that did it. Thanks!

For some reason when I try to access "My Settings" or "Edit My Profile" I get an error that says; Sorry, you don't have permission for that! It's not a big deal or anything but I thought someone should know about it.

It was either Space Invaders or Asteroids, I can't remember any more which one was first. They got both arcade consoles at Fisher's around 1979 when one of the pinball machines in the vending hall broke. I'm pretty sure they were the first ones in town at the time.

Bandai Entertainment to Stop Production and Distribution of New Releases
Nienna replied to Wake's topic in Anime District
The entire entertainment industry is killing itself and it's starting with the worst offenders first. I do a lot of conventions and I don't have any problem going into a dealer's room and laying down a nice chunk of change. But I spend the vast majority of my money on "accessory" purchases. Everything from T-shirts to key chains. These are, for the most part, licensed products and the same studios that produce the anime get the revenue for my new messenger bag. Still my friends and I often lament the lack of selection. The problem is that over priced DVD's limit the fan market, even with filesharing (I refuse to call it piracy, I've never pillaged and burned anyone's TV console to get their DVD's) If anime was more affordable more people would buy it, more people would see it and more people would just have to have a new character plushie at the next convention. This is more work, and no one in the entertainment industry actually wants to do any of that. As a business owner myself I can tell you; you have to sell the customer what they want at a price they can afford. You can't expand your business by milking people. -
I've seen Clannad and I really enjoyed that one. I started Darker than Black and just couldn't connect with it. I have no idea why I didn't think to look for Death Note. I can only watch dubs because my dyslexia turns subs into a nightmare of confusion. I might as well be watching them with the subtitles off for all the sense I can make of them. Thanks for the list!

[Books] What are some good fantsay books?
Nienna replied to Larcenousgreed's topic in Recommendations & Reviews
The Princess Bride by William Goldman The Eyes of the Dragon by Stephen King (not horror) Magyk by Angie Sage Phantastes by George MacDonald (<-this one, definitely this one) anything by Neil Gaiman I could probably come up with some more suggestions, feel free to PM me with more specifics about your tastes. -
So one of my besties logged netflix streaming into my Apple TV and now I have it had have no idea what to do with it because they don't have a single thing on my "to watch" list. So I'm wondering what other netflix users recommend. I really like Kyo Kara Maoh, Full Metal Panic and Ouran. The last thing I finished was Fruits Basket. I'm not into horror or gore (a little is ok but it's not something I gravitate to as a whole) I was kind of disappointed in the limited selection but I figure some of it has to be good even if I've never heard of it.

Looking for a little advice on uploads/downloads
Nienna replied to Nienna's topic in Feedback & Assistance
pretty much everything I have ends up as an MP4 because I have apple TV and that's the format it likes. I seldom watch them on my ipad or iphone simply because they're prettier on my big screen tv. But I readily admit that my format preferences aren't the norm. I should probably mention it's dub only season 1&2 and sub season 3 -
Looking for a little advice on uploads/downloads
Nienna replied to Nienna's topic in Feedback & Assistance
When I originally posed this question the forum was in the process of rebuilding the download section and there wasn't much. Now the only thing I have that someone else hasn't already uploaded is Kyo Kara Maoh and it's 848x480 -
I've spent about a half hour a day playing since christmas and I just finished (some days I didn't play and some days I played over an hour so it all even's out) I've played Zelda since I was a kid and I don't remember ever being this obsessive. I thought it was absolutely amazing. From my perspective all Zelda games are a little linear. You can't really progress without collecting the needed equipment for the next dungeon and I did do a lot of back tracking to go after items I'd seen but couldn't reach with my current bag items. What I appreciated most was the multitude of save points. I'm an adult with a full time job and a house to keep up, I can't spend hours on end gaming like I could when I was younger. It was great to know that even if I had to drop what I was doing I could just pick up and keep going. I really enjoyed the graphic style too and I thought the story was very well done. Yeah, ok, I'm gushing now. But anyway, I loved Skyward Sword and I'm psyching myself up to play in Hero mode.

If they did do an anime for Harry Potter, and I think it's a long shot, I'd put money on it centering on Harry's parents and their friends/enemies/frenemies as students. There's a huge fan base for that sort of thing and most of the diehard fans are incredibly fanatical about the idea of getting a hold of the character's back stories. Furthermore there's only biography written, no actual narrative so it's a wide open canvas to work with. There wouldn't be any need to do adaptation, they could simply take the existing character development and run with it.

How many anime episodes have you completed watching ????
Nienna replied to skate.101's topic in Anime District
I honestly have no idea, my MAL list isn't even complete. I've been watching Anime for 35 years, that's like asking me how many Loony Tunes shorts I've seen. I kind of envy you younger guys, you have all these communication tools we didn't have so you have access to Anime in a way we never did. -
I'm going to have to vote for skyward sword since everyone else is voting OoT. I am so insanely addicted to skyward sword it's not even funny. It's definitely the best Wii game I've ever played and makes my Nintendo top 5.

Since we're in a rebuilding phase at the moment I thought I'd ask this. I have what I consider to be a small to medium library of anime series. They're all in mp4 format and the file sizes run between 100MB and 700MB (some series are better quality than others but all have good pictures.) Mostly what I would like to know is: Are some of the files too small/low quality to be bothered with for most of the group? Should i compress some of the larger ones? What's the consensus on optimum file size/video dimension? I don't have a premium account with any file hosting service and I'm not likely to spend money on one. Is rapidshare my best bet or should I go with someone else? I also have a full time job and I do volunteer work so my free time is precious and I don't want to waist it on anime no one wants. If anyone's actually interested in looking through the list of what I have it would be kind of nice to hear "Oh I'd love to see that!" even if it's only one person, that's ok. I just don't want it to be there and no one uses it. Other advice is good too, feel free.

I attend about 4-5 three day conventions and 6-8 single day conventions a year. (Almost one a month.) Most are Anime related (some are more anime and some are more sci-fi/fantasy) I host panels at about half of the conventions I attend. So I feel I have good perspective on conventions as a whole. Conventions themselves are not good or bad. Depending on a number of factors, a convention can be a wonderful experience where you make new friends and learn new things or it can be a straight up nightmare. Most of this has to do with the people who run the convention. Not the people attending it. Sure, there are days when I think if I see one more girl in a duck tape bikini I'm going to go blind but the times I've felt like a convention was a waste of my money have only been when the convention was poorly managed. I always recommend before attending a convention to get online and see what other people are saying about it, get on the convention forums and try to connect with the community ahead of time. This will give you a good idea how involved the staff are and what to expect. If it's a small convention don't be afraid to contact the staff directly and ask them about the convention and the types of activities they have planned and see what kind of response you get. Event staff should be helpful and enthusiastic. Good staff will make a great convention experience.

I have a vision disorder that makes it extremely difficult for me to read subs so I only watch them if I have absolutely no other choice.

You guys are making me feel old

My first anime was Star Blazers (Space Battleship Yamato) English dub, 1979 I believe. The first anime I was rabid about was Voltron in the mid 80's. I used to run flat out from the bus stop in order to make it home before the theme song started. But then I used to get up at 6am on a Saturday to watch Star Blazers so there you are.

Fanfiction tends to be a mixed bag, a lot of it is garbage but some of it is really good. I started writing fanfiction in my teens as a writing exercise. There's an obscene amount of work involved in creating characters and a world for them to populate so sometimes the best way to hone your writing skills is to play in a pre-built world. Having said that, good fanfiction should never contain the disclaimer OOC (Out of Character) And the rules of the character's reality should be followed to the letter. That's not to say characters can't evolve, but the evolution should be true to both the character and the fandom as a whole. (for instance a 15 year old character will mature by the time they're 20 but they won't radically change their personality type) Finding good fanfiction... now there's a challenge. I can't recount the number of times I've started a fanfiction and said "is that English?" But that's a whole other can of worms.

I haven't seen Clannad-AS yet but season 1 was definitely age appropriate for 13-yr-olds. Once kids get into the double digits I think it's important to discuss with them that not everyone's home life is that great. ANd the characters are so endearing.

I've seen Kyo Kara Maoh, Full Metal Panic and Ouran more times than I can count. I like to have them playing while I make dinner or work on cosplay projects

How would you describe your anime watching habits?
Nienna replied to Katongo's topic in Anime District
I watch Anime two nights a week on my days off. Usually about 3 - 5 episodes at a go, so 6 to 10 a week. Once in a while I'll squeeze in an extra night if work hasn't been to crazy but I normally like to be on top of my game so I can pay attention. I'm a little ADD -
There are some mature themes in Ouran but they're not gratuitous so I didn't really think about them. You do have to keep in mind that even the most innocent, straight laced 13 year olds still go to school with other 13 year olds and a lot of them can be trash mouths. Most anime contains either violence or sexual overtones or both. You kind of have to accept that going in. It's the stuff that would garner an R rating that really isn't appropriate for the 14 and under crowd.
