  1. I teach martial arts and medieval swordsmanship ... so I'd have to say anything that goes with those 2 lol
  2. In some ways I believe they are. My wife likes to tell me I still have choices regarding certain issues. She really doesn't like it when I reply that the decision was made years ago, and though she might be technically correct, I wouldn't betray myself in such a way as to reverse it now. Regardless of consequences.
  3. Was waiting for the "Brain in a jar" theory to come out. 'Bout time. Always approved of the elegance of it myself. Oddly, you'd think I'd really go for Berkley's theory, but I find I just can't. Not sure why. May well have something to do with the whole morality and God debate (who created morality. The Gods who then assign them to us, or ourselves who then relinquish the blame unto the Gods?). Stick with Descartes ... brains in jars having no sensory input (therefore no other human company by inference) thus having nothing but thought to prove they exist at all. Love it. For arguments sake, kauro, let me try it this way. You don't exist. "I" am a brain in a jar, I have thrown everything I could at myself and very lamely concluded that "I think, therefore I am". Blargh. Yet how else can I prove I do, actually exist? I know you don't! "You", kauro, are a figment I've created to stop myself from going insane. So is DuLake btw This world exist for no other reason than to give me meaning and for me to find meaning in my own existence. You guys are merely here to let me explore differing avenues. Sick bastard that I am. So how can you, now, prove you exist? You don't breathe, you don't move, you have no emotions and you have no heartbeat. If you can demonstrate to me that you have external thought/stimuli of your own, I MAY be willing to concede you exist. Not only a sick bastard, I'm now a condescending one as well lol. Sorry.
  4. I think every organised religion on the planet just woke up screaming lol. Heathen, pagan, and proud of it Organised in only the very vaguest sense of the word. Most of us couldn't organise a piss up in a brewery rofl. Bizarrely, from someone as martial as myself, I VERY firmly agree with you regarding militants (and fanatics for that matter). Extremism helps no one, hinders most everyone and usually does more harm to any cause, than any good it sets out to achieve. No matter how altruistic the goals might originally have been. (doing a degree in Defence Studies atm, specialising in terrorism ... want to see extremism from any angle? Look no further!) I hope this conversation doesn't end here by the by. I've enjoyed it thus far, I think most of the comments have been fairly positive and open minded. I'd like to see what more people have to say on the subject. Chaoslegion had some good points, so hopefully he'll get some support in here too. Oh, and ty you as well DuLake, very cool.
  5. Dude, it's hilarious. I'm 39, married to a beautiful woman (who is divorcing me, but oh well) and have 2 beautiful daughters with her. Obviously, cause I'm here, I like anime. I also reeeally like sex and prefer that over anime any day Small penis is funny tho. I got told I had a small one once. Funny how said accuser and I got back together about 2 nights later roflmao. Seriously, how can ya take that crap seriously?
  6. K, keep in mind I'm poking fun. Just as I expect you are . I love "facts". Adore them! Did you know it was once a "fact" that the world was flat? To some people, the theory of relativity is a non-disputable fact even! How does a theory become a fact? Here's another interesting fact: The steel we produce today, still doesn't match the standards of some of the steels made in the dark ages (the damascus steel produced today is in no way the same quality, durablity or tensile strength of that which was made over 1000 years ago). Interesting science there neh? My workmates back in Australia used to admire my fiance of the time. Trust worthy, reliable, dependable, moral and decent. Facts according to them. Also a fact, according to them, was that the bruises on my face every few weeks must have been my own fault and I really must have done something terrible to her to make her hit me like that. Fun facts! (k, that last bit wasn't so nice I confess, but still there it is.) Archeology provides us with amazing facts as well. Fossilised material is pretty hard to argue with right? Of course, you (generic "you", not you specific Chaos!!) were there to record it all right? Well, at least know someone who was? No? Hmmm, better hope it wasn't some cosmic entity's idea of a damned good joke then lol. But still, either way (science or religion), a certain amount of belief and faith are called for. Scientists can call it natural law that gravity works, Christians can say it's a miracle of God and us non-monotheistic types have even more obscure beliefs! Keeps us all guessing and talking I guess lol. Anyways, enough on that. Religion vs Science debates tend towards argument, not debate. Most people who have something to say on the matter have already made up their minds ... and good luck changing it! Dulake, Np dude . Tbh, I hold rituals depend on faith and belief. I know some Asatru who hold household rituals every single day, some who only go to 1-2 a year. If that. Personally I I hold a few, but not that many. Hmmm, I'm not fanatical about the daily stuff, but go into depth on the seasonal, yearly and specific rituals. I hope you'll forgive me for not going into greater detail at this stage. Yes, there CAN be a certain amount of call for ritual or ceremony. Everything from blessing a meal, weddings, thyngs, sumble, namings, up to asking a blessing for the coming season. Then again, some people only attend a few of these and pay lip service to the rest. I consider it much like any other faith in this respect. Websites, etc: Tough call. Sure there are some good ones ... and a Hel of a lot of bad ones. I still have to read some of the latter to get a clue some days lol. Best advice I can give you is to read some actual books (or translations of them) as opposed to sites, try to avoid topics on rituals, runic and magik until/unless you can find some actual asatru in your own area you can sit down and talk to first. Many many people have been led down some truly odd paths and beliefs based on the sales pitch of the nice girl behind the new age shop counter. To be fair, I'm always loathe to start pitching particular sites, books, authors and groups to anyone I haven't actually met in person. Okies. Scuse me while I go throw on my fire resistant jockies. After the way I've handed comments on both science and religion today I'd say it's a safe bet I'm due some roasting
  7. I'd be a fairly lame priest if I was offended by something so small now wouldn't I? After some of the discussions I've had in the past, your question is phrased most politely lol. Btw, yes you wrote it all correctly How did I come to my choices? Hmmm, Consider: 1/ Always been interested in theology, I've studied many (inc 3 forms of christianity btw) 2/ I've been a martial arts student for 30+ years, medieval (steel) re-enactment for nearly 20 years, and Norse specific for about 15 years now 3/ At some stage I became interested in my family tree and discovered I was descended from Norwegian nobility 4/ I've always been fascinated with mythology. I was a Vitki well before I became a Godhi (Vitki is Old Norse for "wise man", a kind of lore keeper and story teller), thus I was very familiar with all the lore and stories of my faith 5/ I developed a bond with one deity, then another, after a while people started coming to me for advice on our shared faith (I know quite a few Asa/Vanatru), I wanted to help others, so started to seek greater understanding, wisdom and some help my self Now I give council on the God/dess's, hold ceremony's, rituals, blessings, try to teach/educate about our faith to those who are interested, and help me and mine as best I can in any way I can. It's not always easy, sometimes it's down right bloody hard, but it's always rewarding. Spiritually if nothing else lol. There's more of course, there always is *grin*, but that covers the basics for me at least. How's that work for you?
  8. Go with Vizored. Sure, combo powers of Shinigami and Hollow would be cool, but I'm more in favour of the wrestling with your own inner demons personified! Finally, the ability to beat the snot out of everything I hate about myself!!!! rofl
  9. You have choices: 1/ You don't care either way 2/ You need proof (aka science, not faith as faith is belief without need of proof) 3/ You have faith (and like 2/ no one is too likely to change your mind) Me? I'm heathen. Asatru to be precise (Norse gods in case my name doesn't give it away lol). Worse, I'm a Godhi, an actual "minister" for my faith! *shock* I don't force my beliefs on others, can't stand those who do ... I can happily keep up on almost any religious conversation, having studied many and having an avid interest in theology. My parents hated it at first, they are all 110% agnostic to put it mildly. Do I think a Big Bang created the universe? A being spoke a word (out of nothing)? Or that the universe as we know it was created when fire & ice collided to shape it? All have as much possibility of being accurate (I wasn't there to witness it, neither where you), but if it comes to the crunch I'm enamored with the fire & ice theory lol. Not all religions are created equal, nor are all sciences ... otherwise there wouldn't be so many arguments over who is right, why everything is referred to as a "theory" and why both religious leaders and scientists constantly try to prove the other faiths/scientists wrong Personally, I like the idea of a higher power watching me, lending a helping hand (or kick in the rear) every so often, and the idea of an afterlife. I also have no issues of being proven wrong in the finale and just being worm food roflmao ... be the greatest joke either way if you ask me
  10. it's good, just very different. If you're going to watch season 2, be sure to watch the OVA's beforehand ... they make all the difference in understanding wtf is going on lol
  11. Umm, actually I meant what the name of the current arc just watched episode 328 and don't even know the name of the arc lol
  12. Ghost in the Shell Bleach Deadman Wonderland Freezing Fairy Tail Darker than Black Hellsing
  13. Taking a life in war isn't murder (there are a load of books of legal/ethical precedent here) ... however, this does not say that murder cannot be committed during times of war. If discovered it is both ethically and legally wrong and likely to get you in all kinds of trouble. (I'm doing a degree in Defence Studies ... military papers essentially) Do I have issues regarding murder? Could I justify ever having to do so? Sadly, yes, I could. Even without recourse to the "self-defence" claim. Sorry, I'm not the most moral of people and have known this about myself for a long long time. Without any problems at all I can think of over 20 people I'd happily see dead and not lose a nights sleep over it. Hel, I'd probably sleep better for a change.
  14. I haven't seen Kekkaishi, but thoroughly enjoyed D.Gray Man ... just want more than 2 seasons :s
  15. Not easy choices, but ok. Top 5 (not in order): 1. The Major (Ghost in the Shell) 2. Yoruichi (Bleach) 3. Tsubaki (Soul Eater) 4. Satellizer el Bridget (Freezing) 5. Road Kamelot (D.Gray Man) ... more fro the whole bad bad BAD girl personality than for her body lol Close but no cigar: Police Girl (Hellsing) Shiro & Kanaka (Deadman Wonderland) Lenalee Lee & Lulu Bell (D. Gray Man) Mafuya (Seikon No Qwaser) Saeko Busujima (High School of the Dead)
  16. Evangalion (EITHER ending). Seriously, I torture friends by forcing them to watch that whiny little git right thru till the bitter end ("I just can't take it any more!!") ... then force them to watch both endings. For some odd reason I've had friends stop talking to me for over a month for it <evil laugh> Code Geass ... sorry, way to God Emperor of Dune like for me
  17. the current anime is filler? again? *groans* Does the arc even have a name by any chance? lol
  18. Ya, been playing League of Legends for a while now. Fairly balanced, none of the character's are so over powered that they don't have weaknesses that expose them to other char's. Merely a matter of luck on who opposes you. After that, it's skill in team play, pvp (solo and team) and good item selection. Game mechanics take intro account your own win/loss ratio and tries its best to match you with equal teams. Note: TRIES lol
  19. Naruto, One Piece and Evangalion (I actually own the latter, but use it to torture people!)
  20. EvE Online ... yes, you have to pay. Sci-Fi based mmorpg. Biggest single server game around. Thus, not as many players as wow, but better play nonetheless. Skill learning is real time based (aka you learn even when you're not online as long your account is active). Downside: Very aggressive pvp aspect, very long skill tree's to become truly competitive, long list of bastards who've been around forever and love ganking noobs Upside: Great graphics, can be very friendly if you find the right crowd/corp, user friendly, lots of options to play with
  21. Same and ditto. Hellsing Ultimate (or OVA, or whatever) is only up to #7 still tho *sad face*
  22. I sense a theme to Hicks rec's But I'd definitely recommend GitS to anyone. Great story arc, good character developments and focus, graphics are what hooked me first time I watched it. Different from anything I'd seen before. I'd also suggest Hellsing (inc OVA's ... darker and more intense) and Darker than Black (inc OVA's and II, they show a completely new side to the series main protagonist)
  23. *engages brain* Not been sleeping well lately, 5.45 here in New Zealand atm. REALLY should have thought of that on my own *blush* thx Creepy ;s
  24. Of all time? (no joke intended) The Doctor ... The Master comes in at a very close second though
