Vash1306
When download Anime for storage, if you had the choice between the two qualities. Which would you download? 1080p or 720p? Why? Edited September 16, 2015 by Vash1306
DeathTheKid
I download 720p unless there is a huge difference in quality then I'll go for 1080p. Most movies I've downloaded only in 1080p though. I have 1tb on my laptop, 2 2tb externals, and 1 5tb external. Kid Ryan
I always grab 720p when possible, though that's because I can't tell the difference in quality.
Icefyre
720p, I'm not clever enough to be able to tell the difference and HDDs cost a small fortune on a student's budget
StaticX
Usually 1080p, but if it looks REALLY bad a.k.a D.Gray man Bluray or Fairy Tail Bluray bad, I'll get it at 720p
ZeroPenguins
You forgot to add in 480p... Most animes are upscale, dunno about these days if they are native 1080p or not. So most cases 720p is probably a better option, unless you want FLAC or some uncompressed audio in 1080p.
ElementalCards
You forgot to add in 480p...This. I don't have a lot of room in my comp and buying an external HD isn't part of my plans atm.

Koby
If the anime had a high budget or the animation & art had a wow factor; then 1080p. Otherwise it's 720p for me. As stated previously by others, 1080p anime is more often than not nothing more than a placebo upscale bloat. A lot of BDs were done from SD masters and 576p was pushing the limits of quality versus placebo.
scrApyArd209
I'm going to said 720p why because due to lack of memory i have and 720p when encoding is faster then trying to encode a 1080p video which take me more then 15 minutes.

Because I felt for a show like that we should give downloaders a choice, especially since there are users who eat up anything 1080p regardless of merit and regardless if a 720p release was better. Plus while SEN! may not have a high budget or wow-factor animation; it is a spin-off of a show that did and the original Soul Eater has easily earned a spot in my top 20 favorites of all time. Then there was the case of the difference in file size only being about 50% less (500 mb vs. 1gb) compared to some shows who have like 500 mb 720p and 3 gb 1080p.
Gwapogi
Depends on the series. 720p for most. 480p for old series. 1080p for movies but if there's no 1080p available then 720 it is. Yatogam1
Depends on the series. Most I download and keep at 720p. If only to know, watch and then delete: 480p. But I like always down at 1080p.
sapphireglaceon
not sure really all depends on how you want to see it
jmorrow25
720p. It's hard to tell the difference, but the storage space it saves adds up quick
Shea
If it's an upscale, I'll normally get 720p. But if it's native HD, I'll go for 1080p.
Vaux
720p normally simply for filesize, I'd rather have a fair few series with a decent 720p encode then maybe 1 or 2 in 1080p.
shamil11
Used to be a fan of 720p when I first started collecting--it seemed like a decent enough balance between quality and size. Now though, almost entirely 1080p if I can find it--the quality difference is usually sufficient enough to more than justify the larger storage requirements (usually better audio encoding at this level, as well), and large hard drives are easy to obtain.  The major exception would be older sets that have been re-released on BD, sometimes the upscaling effects are mitigated by a 720p encode better than a full 1080.
behappy
I'm definitely in the boat of get the highest resolution/bitrate with regards to the production resolution/bitrate. Doing research is worth it for archiving (not so much for temporary storage for watching).
