Bearrick
So far I don't think I've read the book of anything first before the movie came out. I read the harry potter book before the movie came out but never finished it, but finished it after the movie was out....I only ended up reading the first lol. But I usually don't read fantasy books much.
polmania
usually i read the book first. Most times i like the book better cause they have to cut much of the book to fit it in a movie
Spitfire
I always read the books first too. I feel like I get more out of it that way and I can see what the movie kept or decided to leave out. It's a much more engaged experience than just seeing the movie first though there are benefits to doing that too.
Jarlaxle
It's true that the book will generally always be better, but there are some pretty worthy adaptations that I have seen (to which I enjoyed both the book and the movie/series).~~~ Dune: I didn't think so highly of the 1984 movie, although it's still watchable. Now the 2000 mini-series is bloody awesome in comparison, given how long the book is no single movie could ever capture the essence of Dune. The 3-part mini-series does it justice, I think, and I love watching it again every year or two. The Children of Dune mini-series is pretty decent too, although the first is easily superior. I didn't read the book until after I had seen the TV show.~~~ The Stand: This is both my favourite Stephen King book and movie. The Uncut edition of the book is like 1,200 pages, so again no short movie could ever hope to be even half-decent. The four-part mini-series did the job mighty finely, which is probably also because Stephen King had a lot of involvement with it. A few big things were naturally changed and left out, but it is forgivable. The only way to mimic the book perfectly would be to have a 22-episode TV series or something; maybe two of them. >_> Still, I think this was a fantastic movie and very well-cast. I actually saw the movie first, and a few times at that before I actually read the book (Uncut). I think this was beneficial because it really helped me appreciate the deep back-story of the characters, where I probably wouldn't have cared or perhaps found a lot of it to be boring.Edit: Forgot to mention, in the case of the Game of Thrones, I saw the first episode and loved it, but then decided to read the book first before proceeding further. After I have done both I will then proceed with the rest of the Song of Ice and Fire novel series.
crkavam
Most of the time I don't know that movie was based on a certain novel. After finding and reading original novel most of the time I'm disappointed with adaptation.
lemmingllama
Book are always better than movies unless the books are bloody well terrible. Look at LotR, terrible writing in the books and yet makes a good movie. But other than stuff like that, books are better!
Buster36c
books take to long to read personally i like movies or shows that keep u on the edge of ur seat cos im to impatient to wait till i read up to the good parts but with a movie it takes a couple hours and ive seen the whole thing
chewwie
hmmm I prefer the Harry Potter books than the movies, they were boring!
Monad-Gnostis
I just hate how they always cut out a big part of the book when they put it up on the big screen, but I guess "run time" is important.
drager88
i have only started to read book. but the movie that started it was eragon because my friends said the movie was ruffish and i agree with then now.
KuraiRyouken
I always read the book after i watch a good movie. only to find that the books 10 times better >.>
LordLi1
I prefer books , if i really like a book i am reluctant to watch the movie because far to often the essence of the story is lost, the only time i have not seen this happen is with LOTR and Bourne movies. skye336
Some books should just be left as books after seeing the Eragon movie I now believe that whole heartedly that movie was horribly done and they can't even continue the series but other movies are very good when adapted from books... so can't really judge a movie by its book cover I guess they say
fanwinged
I watch movies first because I think it much better to enjoy a movie without knowing what is going to happen next. If the movie is really impressive, I will then read the book.
animechik
i read the book first and then see what changes they make in the movie. as long as they keep to the story line i cool.
phily880
Usually I have red the book first, but if I have a choice I would rather watch the movie or TV show first. Since the book is almost always better, If you watch the movie first, instead of being disappointed by the movie you get to be amazed by how much better the book is. Ghost2k
For the most part, I don't like reading so I usually don't read the book at all. I would just watch the movie. The only book that I read that has a movie coming out is Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close. Good book, but who can believe me if I hardly read so I can't really judge them
wizard1000
A lot of times for me I watch the movie first and if I enjoy it then I read the book. Sometimes though I read the book first and if I like it then I watch the movie.
Gambit3014
Elsch if i want to enjoy the movie for the movie, its better not to read the book(s) first. However, since all movie makers can do these days is remake the old movies or make new movies based off of books, its going to get to a point were i have read the books prior to the movie coming out. for example, "i am number four"... read the book before it came out, saw the movie and cursed it for being sooo bad!! raynerd
Book. Able to get stuck into it and lose myself for days. A movie can be too short at times leaving you unfulfilled.
