Phantasy Star Online Blue Burst

Installation Download:

First you'll need to download the client, which can be obtained here:

Then you'll need to register an account for the game. You do so here:

Install the game, login, create a character and then tell us about it!

Once the game is installed, a shortcut of the psoBB exe will be added in your desk, administrator privileges need to be given to the shortcut before run the game (this also avoid the fake 903 error while logging in). Also, make sure to add the PSO.exes as exception for your anti virus, otherwise, the connection and execution will be blocked by its protection.

*Note, the new installer uses a shitty fan-made HUD for the game; to revert to the original game HUD go into your install folder and open the 'data' subfolder and find the file named "f256_hyouji" and delete it.*

Hope to see a lot of you there. I have made a team called Kametsu which I can add you to. The game only allows up to 4 people in a room at a time, but would love to play with some of you.

Here is a keyboard layout for those who care. I suggest using a Game Pad controller however.

psobb-board.jpg

Study the above closely, even with a game controller you will still need to use the Keyboard for certain actions, namely the numpad for actions.

You'll have to set up the controls for your gamepad. Hit f12 and go to options -> gamepad setup and just fiddle with the controls to fit your controller.

Now for some additional options. You may want to consider opening the options menu and turning off keyboard controls if you use a game controller. It will allow you to type, but it will also make it so the keyboard wont move your character and stuff. Feel free to put map position to non fixed if you want, this way the map rotates as you rotate. In my opinion giving you better bearing with it.

Onto the fun part. For your first time playing, enter a room and go to Forest 1. Before fighting I would recommend you do some combo training. All classes can do a three hit combo, so practice and get the timing down. It's vital for every class. Once you do you can then proceed.

And lastly, here are some websites for helpful information on the game:

PSO-World

PSO Wiki

Pontifex' Price Guide

Univers-PS (French, but still a good source for English viewers)

That's all for now, hope it was helpful, and you enjoy your time in the game!

Team Kametsu & Member List
† Team's History †
Years ago we were decently sized and active, but the team died when interest in the game vanished. Now I don't really know anyone in the game since it's been roughly 3 years since I last played.

I'd like Kametsu to be an enduring team of like-minded players. I have taken notice of lower level players that genuinely want to just have fun but often times a high level player enters their game and simply destroys everything without letting the lower level player get any exp, this causes a bad stigma towards all high levels as being stuck up and only there to show off.

I hope our team can be different however, some of the higher level users should join lower level games to help in other ways, sometimes by giving advice or answering questions, sometimes by just being a friend, and of course being a "meat shield" or a support character to allow the player to learn on their own but be there to support them in an emergency. If you do have the will and heart to help people and also want to be a part of a fun team that has a blast with each other, you've come to the right place.

Kametsu is not a competitive team, we don't aim to be "pro elite" nor would we really want to. We do what we want when we feel like it. We might like to attempt C-Mode from time to time and maybe some Battle, but we're not focused on being the top team on the server, we do our own thing. As such, don't feel intimidated if you see lots of high levels in the team or on the game, we're here to help bring you up too so I don't care if you're a Lv.180 or a Lv.1, as long as you are there to have fun, that's good enough.

The team itself is friendly, funny, and down to earth. You can talk in team chat about anything, as long as you're not spamming it lol. For those who leave on good terms, you can come back anytime, the door is always open and you always have a place here.

With that said, here are the breakdown of the rules of the team:

† Rules †

  • No cheating whatsoever, this is already enforced on the main server rules but I'll put it here too.
  • Don't pick on other team members. If I'm informed of any problems with you insulting or trying to incite a fight, out you go.
  • Be mature, don't boast about your items to the other members and ridicule them about their own items.
  • Be talkative. There's no use in joining a team if you're not even going to interact with them, and I mean on a more friendly level rather than just playing and staying silent.
  • Hunting for stuff is just fine, just know when to take a break with it, like spamming a certain quest all day every day and stuff. Take a break every so often, play around with the team or try to help some people around the ships.

† Courtesies †

  • Greet the team when you log in and tell everyone when you're logging off.
  • Visit the team lobby from time to time for a few minutes just to check or have a group chat.
  • Team chat is at your disposal. You can access team chat by pressing F9. In team chat you can talk to all members of the team that are logged in no matter what ship, lobby, or room you are in. General discussion in team chat is always welcome so don't feel restricted to only talking about PSO.

Also these are the requirements for joining:

† Requirements †

  • You have read and understand and willing to abide by the rules.
  • You understand that maintaining team activity is not just my job. So you cannot complain about team activity if you haven't lift a finger to help around.
  • You agree to use the Team Room and Password for any team games you wish to let other teammates enter.
  • You agree to regularly use these forums and Team Chat for peaceful purposes.
  • Finally, you agree to not draw any problems with an individual member on team chat, they should be PM'ed or Simple Mailed to me or a Leader.

Keep in mind timezone differences, and well the majority of the members seem to be around Central Timezone or close to it. For me it seems like more of the members are on around 4 PM to Midnight Central. So convert that to your time zone and see what time it is. So please don't complain if no one is one when you are. You can always contact fellow members via the forum or through MSN, etc.. and try to meet up together in-game.

Team Lobby: is Ship Atlas, Block 1, Lobby 7.

With all that said, enjoy your membership into team Kametsu.

† Members List †
I removed all old members from the team since I'm unsure if they still play. If you do, just let me know and I'll re-add your information below.

Woh, seems pretty cool. Looking at a few gameplay videos now. Definitely interesting.

I'll install the game tomorrow just before I head off to work.

The game is really nice and very fun. The problem is the lack of areas to play.

You have:

Episode 1:

Forest

Caves

Mines

Ruins

Episode 2:

Temple

Spaceship

Central Control Area

Tower

Seabed

Episode 3:

Doesn't exist in BB.

Episode 4:

Crater

Subterranean Desert

You also have the Lobby, Pioneer 2, and Casino but those aren't places you fight at.

Also some of the places have multiple sub-divisions such as Forest 1, Forest 2, and Forest 3.

There is a boss at the end of each section for most of them as well.

Though you also have difficulty levels of Normal, Hard, Very Hard, and Ultimate.

Normal is all that is available to play till level 20.

At level 20 you're able to play Hard.

At level 40 you can play Very Hard.

At level 80 you can play Ultimate.

Though there is a lot of various missions, quests, side-quests, and rewards to be done in each. Many of which is also only available in solo mode such as the "storyline quests".

In Ultimate all the creatures and bosses change and it gets a lot more difficult obviously. A lot of things change then and people claim that's when the true game really shows itself. Max level is 200, so you've still got 120 levels to go once Ultimate opens up, but as I stated, with a lack of places to go, you'll be doing the same things over and over again.

The game also has a huge hand in trading with other players in the economy as well as collecting rares. A lot of people focus simply on this aspect of the game. Then you also have MAG farms which is basically other players getting paid in Photon Drops to raise your MAG for you. MAGs are creatures you equip that boost your stats.

I really like the games setup myself and the fact that it utilizes a controller really well. PSO2 came out about a year ago in Japan but I don't think any official server exists for it here. PSOBB is a really old game and no official server exists anymore. This private server has really died down since I first started playing it too. I guess people got bored with it and moved on. I'm hoping to bring people back to it.

Does the game have a .dmg version for mac?

I'm not positive, but I don't think it does.

Is there any anime material (series, OVAs, movies etc.) regarding the Phantasy Star series??

Not that I'm aware of. There were multiple rpgs in the past on Sega consoles. I think like Phantasy Star 1-4. There was also a GameCube and PC port of PSO before they made Blue Burst which included everything from those plus a new episode. They also have Phantasy Star Universe for PS2/XBOX which had some online play before the servers were shutdown. Fans are supposedly working on trying to create a private server hack of it though. Phantasy Star Online 2 just came out a year or so ago but it's only available in Japan still. Fans have made an English patch for users to apply though to be able to play on the Japanese server; but the translations are pretty damn poor and last I heard the official server was still offline from several DDOS attacks.

You going to try this game out with me Imagine Railgun? Use to have a pretty good team of Kametsu players playing this back in 2011; but now no one from Kametsu plays it anymore. :(

Interesting analysis on the game's history Koby! I have to say I'm impressed! :o I think I've heard that they will include a stage from Phantasy Star Online on the brand new game, Dengeki Bunko Fighting Climax!!! An awesome new crossover game containing characters from the best light novel series!! (Touma, Kirito and Misaka 4EVER!!!! ^_^) Thinking of buying the PS3 version when it gets released. Anyway, on to our topic. Although, I'm very intrigued to give this game a shot, I'm afraid I won't be able for the next few days as I'm converting some .mp4 files into .mkv for a friend of mine and timing some subs and the computer works as hell!!! :( I'm so mad at the low speed of my PC that I'm thinking of buying a new one honestly! I can't stand it. However, after I'm done with that I don't see any problem giving this game a shot with you Koby.! ;) Can't promise how long will it take me to learn it or even continue playing! :P So I hope you can be a little patient! :D

I downloaded it once before but i could never truly get into it for some reason. I never gave it a proper go really though so i may well go back and give it a go. I pretty much spend all my gaming time on consoles. I'm not some ridiculous fanboy though, i just don't have the money or time for both PC and console gaming.

I am VERY interested in the private server for Phantasy Star Universe though. It was my favourite game when the servers were open on the Xbox 360, if they can get a private server up and running for the PC version again i will be on it all of the time.

PSOBB with a controller setup plays like a console game. PSO was originally created for GameCube after all.

Most players who've played PSOBB and PSU; prefer PSOBB actually.

Anyhow let me know your player name and character class whenever you make one and hit me up sometime to play.

This server is dead to me now. The owner has been hosting everything off his home PC, yet raking in tons of cash in donations for 'the server' that doesn't exist. The only thing they did pay for was a shared hosting account on Hostgator for the site related things, but not for the gaming side. Crono never made backups of anything and then had a hard drive failure and downtime was often. For the past several years it's been offline more than up. Now he's lost ALL data and thus starting the server over. That means all the characters are gone, all my collection is gone, everything. I have no desire to start over when I pretty much had every item I'd ever have wanted in the game already. So PSOBB schtserv is dead to me due to the failures of those on the staff there.
