We can feel his willpower burning throughout the series. When Raditz attacked Goku, during Frieza arc, when that bald guy beat the shit out of Videl etc, we can really feel "Son Gohan" there. I feel like if Toriyama has meant for the DB series to switch its main protagonist, Gohan would've made the best succesor of Goku.
