i just find seperating people by age annoying

its just an irk of mine

its like saying hey look kool kids hanging out here

its just very unattractive too me and i dont like it

Well some people like to talk mature things, show off or view mature images, etc..

and well to do so legally on the internet the site must not allow young people to view.

Thus the reason when you view a porn site or w/e a lot of time you will see the opening page saying:

click here to enter (you agree you are 18+)

or

click here to exit (you don't agree/are younger than 18)

It's to keep that site from getting into trouble by the government if ever contacted.

It's the same with the 18+ forum in a way.

It's not that we want to classify people by age, or only allow certain people access, but that it's a way to allow us to post it legally. :/

There are a lot of forums I go to that they give the warning about needing to be 18+, but because they put the disclaimer, even if they allow under aged people to post, they cannot get in trouble, because it was their choice to do it, even though they were warned, and whatnot, plus, if someone on here really wished to view it, but are not 18, they could just make a second account that says they are over 18... as far as I can see... just putting a disclaimer is all you can do, because if you make things that lockout people under 18, they will just make that second 18+ account.

Plus, I have been part of, and witnessed some really great RPers take part in, RPs in sections for 18+... it is almost never purely, "I have sex with your character." It is just that, they can have a more graphic RPs (the places I saw most of the good ones at had a rule against posting anything to violent, with strong language, or with sex, so they made an 18+ section for that and other stuff, like images). A lot of the RPs were well thought out ones; complicated plots, great characters, and very well written posts. There will, and always will be, those RPs in an 18+ section that are about nothing but sex, but still... good RPs can take place regardless of where they are in the forum exactly.

Good point.

This other forum I go to has a 18+ section that anyone can enter but those under 18 seen posting or viewing will be banned with the admins or mods see them.. :/ I don't want to ban anyone for such a silly reason... it's just plain dumb.

I guess we could make the 18+ section with a simple disclaimer but allow anyone who wants in, in, as long as they understand we are not responsible for what the read or see.. and that they agree to it.. :/

How does this sound to everyone?

I say no. I think it's stupid; first, there's no way to enforce it, people can lie about their age and whatnot, defeating the purpose of "18+ only". Secondly, I have more interesting things to do with my time than look at porn. You should too.

That's all.

I honestly don't see anything wrong with it, so long as no one goes to try and edit their birthday to make them "18", just so they can get into that part of the forum... remember some people do that JUST for that reason, so keep that in mind. Might want to have it hidden too, to make sure something like that can be a bit more prevented.

Same could be said about anything else someone does online in general. Different strokes for different folks.

Your not thinking straight.. or something.

+18 doesn't mean p0rn.. it means more adultness talk. Though it could lead to porn though.

But porn is not the reason we are considering adding it.. :/

Then why restrict it to eighteen and over? There are people aged thirty who are too immature and incapable of using simple grammar (pardon those with English as a second language). There are people aged fourteen who are mature and can do this, and are able to take part in mature debates and discussions, where someone who is eighteen might not be. Just because you're x number of years old, doesn't mean you're "mature".

If you're going to do it, which probably will happen, don't restrict it by age, restrict it by maturity. Let them come and if people start acting like fucktards, then remove them.

ETA: Obviously I rarely visit, just throwing in my two cents against the wave of "WOO PORN" comments. =P

I'm not interested in pornography or in discussion concerning personal sex lives--ethical and moral discussions about sex and related issues, such as birth control, sexual education, incest, paedophilia I think can very well remain on the main forum without any extra precautions beyond that of a brief message in the OP about the possibility of offensive material.

When most people see "18+", they think pornography or similar--usually don't think "Wow, I think I'm going to find many open-minded discussions concerning ethics and possibly conversations about high level mathematics!" While such discussions might exist in such areas, it seems to me their attention is elsewhere. It is quite possible to allow mature discussions without allowing pornography or explicit conversations about sex. (Far be it for me to deny human sexuality--I personally just keep all that private and would not deign to act as I used to. Because I am a prudent snob. =P)

Agree'd. =P
