professa X
So apparently windows 10 home edition has automated updates that you cant defer. Apparently you need to buy pro or enterprise to have control over your updates.http://gizmodo.com/here-are-the-features-microsoft-is-cutting-from-windows-1709512284
Jªvª
Windows 10 Home users will have updates from Windows Update automatically available. Windows 10 Pro and Windows 10 Enterprise users will have the ability to defer updates. Kinda vague from how they posted it; which makes it sound like you just can't ignore them (like how it is now by right click). So they will always be on the list of things you have to install, and basically it will just annoy the crap out of you till you install it lol. Jªvª
C|Net article Basically no one really knows from what has been said or posted, but many people are interpreting as it will force it upon you or its always going to check for updates. Many techs are sitting there pondering by the actual interpretation by Microsoft; and are speculating that it will be just be there annoying the crap out of ya. P.S. - Java I do, its just annoying syntex wise Edited June 13, 2015 by Jªvª
slick1109
Even if they are forced, if you dont want them just block the IP Address(s) that Windows update uses in either your Hosts file or your Firewall and there you go. Then unblock them when you want to update. Only problem is you wont be able to pick-and-choose which updates to install or block. It will be all or nothing. Decent60
From how it reads to me, it's like it is now: It'll automatically download and install (no choice in asking if that's what you want) and then annoy you until you restart. With Pro, you can tell it to download at a later time or set it up to check/download at a preset time. professa X
What i really want to know is why? Why would you all of a sudden do this. They already got an update that cause a crash boot loop.
JohnFlower
Because software as a service. They can push anything to your PC, be it bug/security fixes or bullshit like Skype and Silverlight. If you're interested in a long term solution to 'defering updates' check out the LTSB releases of Windows 10. There's no decent way of selecting which updates to install, but is entirely possible. ZeroPenguins
Or you can just install Arch Linux and have control over ALL the packages/updates you install. Ez.

My CPU doesn't support VT-d. Steam dependencies are crazy and the lack of any sort of update control is stupid. Edit: plus I'm all about Gentoo. professa X
Yes...installing Linux doesn't solve the big issue. Windows went and did something that doesn't make sense. They didn't do it before and now they do. Ridiculous
ZeroPenguins
Just trying to say, if you value privacy then you shouldn't be using Windows. Privacy on Windows is a moot point....

Currently, yes, but previously, how so? I don't remember privacy issues before. Or are you saying since its not open source you can't really tell what it's doing. JohnFlower
I'm saying that a lot of these 'features' were also present in Windows 8 and possibly 7 too. The only major difference now is that their privacy policy was updated to something crazy.

If you can, could explain the difference of SaaS as opposed to how the previously implemented software updates?
Koby
I wish the stupid pop ups telling me to reserve my copy of WinX would go away...I don't think there is any reason or need for me to update from Win7.
