The series will feature the characters known from Thomas Harris' novel "Red Dragon" - FBI Agent Will Graham and Dr. Hannibal Lecter, who were portrayed by Edward Norton and Anthony Hopkins, respectively, in the movie version of "Red Dragon."

The straight-to-series order means that the program will not be run through the pilot season gamut, as most shows are. This will actually be the third incarnation of Harris' "Red Dragon" novel. The original was a movie made in 1986 titled "Manhunter," which featured "CSI's" William Petersen as Agent Graham and "Deadwood's" Brian Cox as Dr. Lecter.

NBC has made the decision to skip an episode of their new Hannibal Lecter drama. The episode, one out of Hannibal’s 13-episode order, is titled “Ceuf”, and was originally scheduled to premiere next Thursday. The decision to put the episode on the back-burner indefinitely came a few hours before the Boston Marathon bombing and has no connection to last week’s violence and tragedy.

According to NBC’s official description, in the episode “Ceuf”, “a string of family murders takes place and Will (Hugh Dancy) determines they were conducted by each of the families’ missing children, who were abducted and brainwashed into killing their old families for their sinister “new family.” The episode has been pulled because of its sensitive nature and the meaning it may hold to those who were affected by the school shooting in Newtown in December.

“Ceuf” was written and filmed long before the Newtown tragedy, says Hannibal writer and executive producer Bryan Fuller. “Whenever you [write] a story and look at the sensational aspects of storytelling, you think, ‘This is interesting metaphorically, and this is interesting as social commentary,” says Fuller, adding that he “didn’t want to have anyone come to the show and have a negative experience.”

NBC will be airing the next episode in line, “Coquilles”, instead of “Ceuf” this coming Thursday. Do you think NBC made the right decision in pulling the episode from the schedule?

A few days ago, we reported that NBC and "Hannibal" producer Bryan Fuller had jointly decided to remove the horror/drama's fourth episode from the network's schedule. This decision came not as a result of the Boston bombing, but as a reaction to the violence incident in Newtown, CT back in December. The episode, entitled "Ceuf" revolved around a sinister cult that turned children against their families, leading the little tykes to slaughter their loved ones. This storyline doesn't seem to really have anything in common with the circumstances of the Newtown massacre, but never underestimate a broadcast network's need to be politically correct.

Anyway, NBC has now elected to make an abridged version of "Ceuf" available as a series of "webisodes" that will serve to bridge the gap between episode three and this Thursday's episode five. These installments will obviously not include the child-related violence that caused the episode to be yanked, but will instead focus on character development and dialog scenes involving Hannibal and the character of Abigail Hobbs (played by Kacey Rohl). An upcoming webisode will also feature a therapy session between Dr. Lecter and his colleague/nemesis Will Graham.

Presented below is the debut clip, first revealed by TV Line, featuring an introduction by Fuller:

Interestingly, Fuller makes mention of the fact that the complete episode will still be broadcast on air and online in other markets, and specifically avoids further plot spoilers for "anyone who wants to seek the episode out." Is that a subtle acknowledgement of how likely it is that U.S. fans will resort to shady online means in order to view "Ceuf" in its entirety? It sure sounds that way to me.
Was NBC right to pull the episode? Or has political correctness run amok yet again?

I've only seen the first two episodes, but I've really enjoyed the show thus far.

I fucking love this show. As a rather intense Thomas Harris fangirl, I burned through the books and movies relating to Hannibal Lecter and just when I thought that it was all over, something new happened. The actor that plays Hannibal is actually perfect for him. Like seriously perfect aaadflj;ds

I haven't missed an episode yet.

[Ceuf Part 1] | [Ceuf Part 2] | [Ceuf Part 3] | [Ceuf Part 4] | [Ceuf Part 5] | [Ceuf Part 6]

Above you can find links to the 6 parts of the abridged version Ceuf available as a series of "webisodes" that will serve to bridge the gap between episode three and this episode five that was released exclusively online on the NBC website.

I've watched the Red Dragon before after that I  went mad searching for more stuff relating to Hannibal Lecter,

By far this show is awesome

Please tell me that you watched Silence of the Lambs at some point after that? One of the best procedural films of all time in my opinion. Wonky cinematography but still a fantastic film.

Apparently there is already talks about a possible Season 2!

While finding an audience has been difficult for the violent series, Fuller let on that network heads are eager for a sophomore season. "NBC are saying that they're very happy with where we are at so I hope that indicates towards a second season because I have a plan for Season 2 that I think would be very exciting," Fuller revealed. "I actually have story arcs through Season 7. I think seven seems about right."

The creator laid out the rough plan for his vision of the series, which would eventually lead to the introduction of Clarice Starling to assist in the hunt once Lecter's true face was revealed. "In the first season we have this weird bromance between Will and Hannibal, season two is the nasty break up and the third season would have a fugitive angle to it, the fourth season would be 'Red Dragon,' the fifth season would be in the realm of 'Silence Of The Lambs,' the sixth season would be 'Hannibal,'" Fuller says. "[Finally], in the seventh season it would be interesting to see Will Graham and a Clarice Starling type character come together for an adventure with their nemesis, Hannibal Lecter."

Should the second season get the greenlight, the creator has one bit of stunt-casting in mind that would be a can't-miss prospect. "I guess my dream casting for the show would be to cast David Bowie as Hannibal Lecter's uncle," Fuller said. "If we get a second season I will reach out and see if there is any interest."

I have...mixed feelings about a possible second season for Hannibal.  I love the series, don't get me wrong.  It's a series that speaks to my very heart o uo  But I don't want to see Clarice in this show.  I don't want the events of Silence of the Lambs or Hannibal to be in this show.  I consider this kind of like an AU-the characters are the same, but the situation and time period is different-and because of that, I really think that major potpoints of the books should be left out.  Personally speaking, I have a lot of disctinct feelings about Clarice [and the end of Hannibal as a whole lmao].  That she was in the movies is quite enough uw u  The Hannibal series is not about her, but she's managed to be in just about every film/television adaptation of it.

I'd started watching this a while ago and, so far, I love it.

As a fan of both, the books and the films starring sir Anthony Hopkins, I had my reservations about watching another actor in the titular role and whether he'd be able to do the character of Hannibal Lecter justice or not, but it seems to fit Mads Mikkelsen like a glove.

I'd love to see this show move on to at least the proposed fourth season. I'd really like to see Fuller's take on the events leading up to Red Dragon.

Hey that's a good point. I completely forgot about Clarice although I think Clarice wasn't part of the Red Dragon character cast which is what the series is based off.

Let's keep hope alive!

my thoughts exactly. i was very cautious abour getting excited for this because of how hannibal was going to be played. tbh, i think mads mikkelson is a better hannibal than anthony hopkins at this point. you can really sense the refinement and style in what he does.

@coffee: nope, she comes in at silence of the lambs if i'm remembering right.
