2017 Daytime Emmy Award Winners
Mercedes Milligan Apr 30th, 2017
The 44th Daytime Emmy Awards were held Sunday night at the Pasadena Civic Auditorium in southern California, presented by the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences. Hosted by actors Mario Lopez and Sheryl Underwood, this year’s celebration saw DreamWorks Animation’s Netflix Original Series Trollhunters as the big animation winner.
Guillermo del Toro’s modern fantasy epic did the studio’s 21 nominations proud, taking home four awards: a performance honor for Kelsey Grammer (“Blinky”), casting props for Mary Hidalgo and Ania O’Hare, the writing prize for Marc Guggenheim, and the award for directing in an animated program went to Rodrigo Blaas and del Toro.
These are on top of the Outstanding Individual Achievement in Animation awards given to animator Mike Chaffe and character designer Victor Maldonado at Friday’s Creative Arts ceremony.
Amazon’s Lost in Oz also performed well, scoring three awards: Outstanding Children’s Animated Program, and both the sound mixing and sound editing for animation honors.
