Ikkitousen: Great Guardians Repackaged, Delayed

Posted by Koby On August - 17 - 2011

Media Blaster is delaying its release of the Ikkitousen: Great Guardians television anime series and offering it again in one complete set instead of two half-series sets. Media Blasters originally intended to release the series in two collections, one on August 30 and the other on October 25. However, evaluations of the current market led to a single collection release, now scheduled for March 31, 2012 for US$59.99.

Ikkitousen: Great Guardians is the third television series in the Ikkitousen franchise. The first season was licensed and released by Geneon Entertainment before being relicensed by FUNimation Entertainment. The second and third seasons were licensed by Media Blasters. The fourth season Ikkitousen: Xtreme Xecutor has not been licensed for North American release.

Japanese company Media Factor announced Saturday that a new video anime project, Ikkitousen: Shūgaku Tōshi Keppu-roku, is in the works.

The Japanese production company Media Factory began streaming a 41-second promotional video on Wednesday for the launch of a new original video anime project of Ikkitousen. The official website for the franchise has also been updated with the new Ikkitousen: Shūgaku Tōshi Keppu-roku anime project.

Geneon Entertainment once released the first Ikkitousen anime series in North America, and Funimation now has the license. Media Blasters has licensed both the second Ikkitousen anime series, Ikkitousen: Dragon Destiny, and the third series, Ikkitousen: Great Guardians. Tokyopop held the license to the original manga in North America under the name Battle Vixens until the company closed its North American publishing branch.

Ikkitousen: Shūgaku Tōshi Keppu-roku is the third OVA in the Ikkitousen franchise, after Ikkitousen: Dragon Destiny and Ikkitousen: Great Guardians both received OVA projects. The last entry in the franchise, Ikkitousen: Xtreme Xecutor, aired in 2010.
