Dragon Age Anime Film Pushed Back to 2012

Funimation and Bioware have pushed back the release of the Dragon Age: Dawn of the Seeker anime film to 2012. Funimation is currently streaming a behind-the-scenes teaser trailer for the film after showing it at Comic-Con International this past week.

The film is based on BioWare’s fantasy action role-playing game franchise Dragon Age, and was originally slated to ship on home video this year. The film’s executive producers are BioWare’s Executive Producer Mark Darrah and Creative Director Mike Laidlaw, as well as FUNimation’s president and CEO Gen Fukunaga and Director of Original Entertainment Chris Moujaes.

Dragon Age: Dawn of the Seeker will be the first title from Funimation’s Original Entertainment team and its co-production initiative.

Funimation Puts Dragon Ball Z on Blu-ray Disc This Fall

The North American anime distributor Funimation announced at its Comic-Con International panel on Thursday that it will release the Dragon Ball Z television anime series for the first time on Blu-ray Disc starting this November.

Dallas-based ANDTRANSFER will remaster the anime from the original Japanese 16mm film reels at 1080p. Colorist Steve Franko will work with Funimation to digitally restore the footage. The release will have both the Japanese and English soundtracks.

Funimation Channel now on U.S. Charter Cable

The North American distributor Funimation announced on Friday that its Funimation Anime video-on-demand content is now available on the Charter cable service nationwide in the United States. Charter subscribers have three forms of access to the channel: five episodes per month at no extra cost; a limited amount of episodes and live-action films on demand starting at US$0.99 each; or a subscription to all of the channel’s content for US$6.99 per month.

Episodes from the following series are currently available for free on demand: The Sacred Blacksmith, Shikabane Hime: Aka, Phantom ~Requiem for the Phantom~, Trigun, and Eden of the East. A listing of premium offerings has been posted to Funimation’s blog.

In comments on the announcement, the FUNimation Channel also indicated that it “will have more launch announcements in the coming months.”

Funimation Adds Rosario + Vampire and 5 more

The North America anime distributor Funimation has announced at its Anime Central panel on Saturday that it has licensed the Rosario + Vampire, Rosario + Vampire Capu2, Chaos;HEAd, Chrome Shelled Regios, Rideback, Heaven’s Lost Property (Sora no Otoshimono), and GUNxSWORD anime series. All of the new titles will ship in 2011 — except for GUNxSWORD and Regios, which will ship in late 2010.

Funimation has also announced the English dubbing casts for Eden of The East, Casshern Sins, and Shikabane Hime. The company is offering a “free ride” to Comic-Con International in San Diego this July to the most ardent Fullmetal Alchemist fan; fans can enter by posting their video pleas on YouTube and http://www.fullmetalalchemist.com/comiccon/.

FUNimation Acquires Eden of the East Movies

Flower Mound, TX (April 3, 2010) – FUNimation® Entertainment today announced that it has acquired the home entertainment, broadcast, digital and merchandise rights to three anime movies which continue the story of the series “Eden of The East” (known in Japan as “Higashi no Eden”) from Fuji Creative Corporation.

The three films are “Eden of The East movie 1: The King of Eden”, “Eden of The East the Movie 2: Paradise Lost” and “Air Communication”, all written and directed by acclaimed director Kenji Kamiyama (“Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex”, “Moribito: Guardian of the Spirit”) and produced by Production I.G

The story continues where it left off from the Eden of The East TV series, and brings Morimi Saki back to the USA in order to find Takizawa Akira. The other Selecao however are actively moving to take part in the game, and a few in particular are making dangerous moves in order to eliminate Takizawa or move towards their picture of a better Japan.

FUNimation Entertainment will release the films on DVD and Blu-ray in 2011.
