What is Blood + ...?
Blood +, pronounced Blood Plus, is an anime series produced by Production I.G and Aniplex and directed by Junichi Fujisaku. The series premiered in Japan on Sony's anime satellite channel, Animax, as well as on terrestrial networks such as MBS, TBS, and RKB on October 8, 2005. The final episode aired on September 23, 2006. Blood + is licensed for international distribution in several regions through Sony Picture's international arm, Sony Pictures Television International (SPTI).
Blood + was inspired by the 2000 anime film Blood: The Last Vampire, however, there are only a few allusions and basic elements from the film. Fujisaku has been involved with both works, including acting as the director for Blood + and writing the novelization of Blood: The Last Vampire.

Storyline Introduction
Under the care of her adoptive family, Saya Otonashi has been living the life of an anemic and amnesiac, but otherwise ordinary schoolgirl. Saya’s happy life is shattered when she is attacked by a chiroptera, learning that she is the only one who can defeat them.
Armed with her katana, Saya embarks on a journey with her family, allies, and her chevalier, Haji, to rid the world of chiropterans and rediscover her identity. The course of the journey reveals the background history of the chiropterans and Saya's very deep past, which extends into the mid-19th century.
The series is initially set in present day (September 2005) Okinawa City (Koza), on Okinawa Island, near the US Kadena Air Base. In the course of the series, Saya visits locations across the world, fighting enemy chiropterans and searching for her origins.
Characters
Saya Otonashi
A seemingly ordinary teenage girl adopted and living with amnesia. As her memories return, her life is turned upside down. She was born in 1833, survives on the blood of others, and is destined to destroy chiroptera and her twin sister Diva. Aiding her in her quest are her adopted brothers Kai and Riku and her ever faithful chevalier Haji. She also is aided by David, her protector from the powerful organization Red Shield.
Haji
Haji is Saya's first, and only living, chevalier. They first met when he was bought by Joel to be her companion, with hopes that they might mate and create more specimens for future experimentation. Haji lived with her in Joel's mansion for many years, growing up while she never aged. One day he slipped and fell from a cliff attempting to pick a flower that Saya wanted as a present for Joel's birthday. Misunderstanding an earlier conversation between Haji and Joel about why Saya lives on blood and wanting to save him, Saya feeds him some of her blood, unwittingly turning him into a "chevalier." Saya has felt some guilt over this through the years, but when she apologized, Haji assured her that he had no regrets as it allows him to always be at her side while she lives her dream of traveling the world with her sword.
Riku Miyagusuku
Riku was the adopted brother of Kai and Saya, the youngest of George Miyagusuku's three adopted children. He was a very kind and intelligent boy who loved to cook. His kind, gentle nature even rubbed off on the reclusive Haji to some degree, particularly after he brought Haji a plate of food and asked him to join the others. Haji taught Riku how to play the cello and protected him from a bad injury after Riku fell from a moving train. After Diva drank most of his blood at the "Zoo", Saya was forced to turn Riku into a chevalier to save his life.
Diva
Saya's younger twin sister and main antagonist; she's the greatest sworn enemy of the Red Shield. Confined by the original Joel just after her birth, she spent her first decades of life locked in a tower in the outskirts of his estate. As she was just a guinea pig to Joel she had no name, until she was found by Saya, who named her Diva because of her voice. She drank much of Riku's blood when she first met him, forcing Saya to turn him into a chevalier to save his life. She later develops a disturbing interest in him and rapes him. After this, she kills him by giving him her blood, causing him to crystallize. As a result Diva is actually pregnant with Riku's children.
